Recently on a post about staff I made a post about taking TS off the requirements for staff - and it got a bit of attention, so I decided to make a thread on it.

Currently, to apply for staff you have to be active in-game, on Forums, and on TeamSpeak (TS). Forums and in-game are obviously necessary to be staff, but I (and I know many others) feel that TS shouldn't be in the requirements. The reason its there is because its said that if people need help then staff in TS can give that help. Except that the only people who would need help are people who are new to the server, and the chances are they don't know what TS is, or don't have it. I have asked a few staff members and they have said that it is extremely rare they get someone asking for help with something on TS. I find it much more helpful for staff to be active in-game as after all, thats where the players play.

Some people are nervous about speaking to others (actually speaking). Some can't use TS because it crashes on their computer, or something like that. Some don't have mics, and can't get one even if they wanted - there are lots of reasons.

Honestly, I don't know. I think you have to have it to get to Mod, but you can be Global JMod without it. I mean, WarZ's only hope right now is followhenis, but he always gets denied. I personally would go for WarZ too, but I don't have a YT or proper recording software, so I can't apply anyway. If TS wasn't a requirement until you want to become Mod, we would have a lot more staff. And if not, maybe for understaffed servers, I.e: WarZ, it's not a requirement until it's got more staff.

Add a vote option for Maybe if you can.

I don't mind using it, but I think Brawl should just switch over to Discord and ditch Slack and TS.

I've seen threads complaining that there are a lack of staff in TS, especially when someone is waiting in the support channel. Correct me if I'm wrong, but TS is a requirement so members of the community have a chance to know the potential mod better. This is a good idea, but at the same time it rules out a lot of potential mods, as you said.

I think TS is needed to be staff, however, only for one reason. The reason is for staff to respond to players waiting in the support channel.

Theres a brawl discord server just no one speaks in it, the CTF community has a 200 player discord but only for ctfers.

I'd consider myself a helpful person. At times i've spent hours teaching people a gamemode or how to do redstone etc. Maybe its because I'm Elite and new people see that as a person who knows what their doing (which in my case is correct) but I get a lot of questions about commands, how to do things, how to find out pieces of info etc. Yes this info can be delivered in TS, but as i have said in the OP, I think its much more helpful to players if staff are active in game. Yes you can TS and play at the same time, but I still think TS isn't really needed.

Yes, you say staff should be there to answer support channel questions. I agree that some questions are much more easily solved if its asked/answered by talking and not typing, but maybe make some people specific TS question answerers, or SMODs need TS and not MOD-

To use TS you need a mic + be in a quite place so there is no background noise. Some people simply can't use TS either due to not having a mic, TS doesn't work on their computer (I know there are some cases of this happening), or for other reason, like internet etc. I myself can't use TS for certain reasons and this rules out a lot of potential good MODs.

Now I can also tell that a staff member is going to reply to this soon and maybe say something along the lines of 'it allows us to get to know the player we may be making staff and it allows a one to one interview allowing us to see what the player is like.' The whole JMOD system is for trialing people, I just think the whole interview thing is a waste of time.

A lot of you don't realize the application is the first step towards becoming a JMod. The second step is an interview with @Canoodle and a few of other staffers on TeamSpeak.
Yeah, you have talk to them. @Canoodle will ask you several situational questions.

Teamspeak is mandatory for all staff members right now because it is our form of verbal communication. However, as many of you may have noticed, there are staff members that have been accepted, myself included, who are not as active on teamspeak as others. Yes, I believe it is good to be active on teamspeak, but at the same time I understand that some staff members are not comfortable with speaking. I do not imagine the rule stating that it's mandatory is going to change, however, I can imagine that the rules regarding it will become less strict.

I am well aware of the process of becoming staff. You get asked situation questions in your application anyway, whats the point in asking them again in TS.

I think everyone should be able to use it but there shouldn't be an activity policy (staff are more active on TS than in-game from what I've seen). @Mattyz_ mind linking a fe of those threads because I have not seen any. Also, I see lots of mods in private channels when they should be in public ones.

There's only one situational question in the application. It's the game breaking economy glitch one.

Teamspeak is the easiest gateway of communication between staff and players.

There was a big discussion about this, and the result was that TeamSpeak has a better permissions system than Discord.
A lot of those staff are AFKing on TS.

They should be in the afk channel then. Its not fair for people who need help to continuously pm mods and not getting a response not knowing that they are afk.

I always put myself in the AFK channel when I'm not available. Sometimes I get PMed even when I'm in the AFK channel. LOL, can't you people see where I'm at. :stuck_out_tongue:

Many DO go to the AFK channel. You should also be smart enough to recognize the fact that if a staff member has their microphone or sound muted, or are set to away, they might not respond.

I'm always there in any channel, afk or what else. My sound will most likely be muted so I won't be able to hear the message sound though. I will answer, can't promise that I will answer right away.

Easiest... some would argue with that. Yes its a good way to communicate, but the issue in this thread is should it be compulsory to become staff.

What about if having TS increases your chances? I mean, maybe you have to be an outstanding member of the community and very active on Forums and in-game to not need TS.

I'm pretty sure you can't get promoted unless you are interviewed on TS3.
