Using the word cancer in chat

We don't mute for swearing unless it's excessive. If someone says **** in chat and gets chat reported, I'll label it as "Offence is too minor". Similarly, I'll probably do the same for cancer. Don't think swearing should be a bannable offense at all.

 

Staff might not know about it, and swearing in chat is fine, but excessive swearing is not. I'm assuming that kanker refers to swear words in general

 

I think we shouldnt be called cancer or use the word cancer in a swearing format because ive been abused by the word cancer and lots of people around the community have called me cancer and in my opinion i think we should get some sort of punishment (week mute) etc

 

Since I understand the most insults considering to kanker I'd be muting for it unless it's just once or to minor, for example if he calls him bad at the game.

 

Saying "kanker" or cancer in any other way passing the chat filter is filter bypass, thus mutable from two offenses (/chatreport).

Same goes for any censored word typed in a language that the censor doesn't catch.

I think it's not a good idea to get into this whole discussion of "is this insult or swearword more offensive than this other insult/swearword" because everyone has their own standard about what is and isn't "bad" to say because "bad" is a value judgement.

I hate to sound insensitive, but cancer is just a sickness, but used as a swear word. Similarly, **** just means to have sex, but it is also used as a swear word. I would not consider anything more severe than others. If someone gets offended by the word cancer in chat they can chatreport, but if it's too minor I'll resolve it and say it's too minor, even if he writes the report reason as "I just lost a family member to cancer and this offends me". Hate to write it this way, but that's the truth of it.

EDIT: Maybe I'll phrase it a little better here

PlayerA: "ur cancer"
PlayerB: "I recently lost someone to that, and I'm offended"

If the chatreport was as follows, I wouldn't take any action.

If, on the other hand, PlayerA continued by saying something like "I don't care, your life is not important to me", I'll mute him for disrespect. But if PlayerA continues chatting to other people or just ignores that message completely, I'll let it be too.

 

If a player is excessively and disrespectly swearing with cancer to other people, I will warn and mute if needed, although I'm not quite sure how other staff would act.

 

What's going on with the other languages? I don't think Brawl will censor swear words in other languages. There over one hundred languages out there with each of them having atleast five swear words so they are not gonna censor 500+ words. In my opinion Brawl doesn't really have to do something about it.
