    New Gamemode Proposal:

    Players Vs Mobs

First off, this is not entirely my idea. There used to be a server way back in the day where a gamemode like this existed. It was hugely popular with hundreds of players playing at once. I can’t seem to find any IPs, videos, or really anything relevant to it. If you know what server I’m talking about, Grats! Tell me if you know the IP or anything concerning that server. If you don’t, well, have a good read and tell me what you think! I also used a few ideas from CTF, so don’t yell at me please.

I am proposing a new gamemode called, “Players Vs Mobs”. The concept in itself is simple. Players will be chosen randomly at the beginning of a game to either become a human or mob. This also goes for any players that spawn during an active game. The humans have to protect their castle, along with their villagers at all costs by building traps and defenses. Mobs, on the other hand, have to destroy their castle and kill the villagers as quickly as they can, killing many humans along the way

The rounds will last either 20 or 30 minutes each. In order for the humans to win, they have to have protected at least 1 key villager by the end of the round while having killed more mobs than mobs have killed humans.

For mobs to win, they have to kill all 3 key villagers. If they do this they will instantly win. If they cannot accomplish killing the villagers, but have killed more humans than humans have killed mobs, they will win the round.

The map will be almost completely destructible. Players will be able to break, place, explode, any type of block they possibly can. Obviously players cannot break blocks such as bedrock, which has been set under important areas. Ex. Under the key villagers, under spawn, and under the main gate entrance most mobs will probably constantly barrage with attacks. There are certain spots in a map you cannot place or break anything including: Key villager stations: Mob’s side, and spawn.

    Key Villagers
Humans (Players) will have to protect 3 key villagers that are placed within the castle walls. These villagers must be protected at all costs. These villagers cannot be damaged by humans, traded with, nor have blocks placed or broken within a 3x radius from them. They are placed in a 3x3x5 cage-like structure that cannot be destroyed by either mobs or humans. Water and lava cannot be poured into it, tnt, anvils, or any fallingentity block cannot be launched inside via cannon, and dispensers cannot dispense blocks/liquids into it.

These villagers will have 50 health each (25 Hearts). That will be 6 hits from a diamond sword in order to kill. If they are attacked and survive, they will regenerate half a heart every 15 seconds. These villagers take at most 8 hearts from an explosion, nothing more. Players themselves cannot heal the villagers but can build defensive structures around them.

While being attacked, all the players will be notified of it by using a /title command where they will be shown: Villager A is being attacked! Lasting for 2 seconds with a sound of a high-pitched noteblock dinging 5 times. This takes effect for all the key villagers (Villager A, B, and C).

When a key villager dies, the players will be notified with another /title command where they will be shown: Villager A has died! Lasting for 2 seconds followed by the sound of an enderdragon roaring. This takes effect for all the key villagers.

Once all key villagers have been killed, the mobs will instantly win.

    Humans

The humans will protect the villagers and castle by using their class abilities and building intuition to make their castle a force to be reckoned with. They cannot break/place blocks on the mob side of the map.

    Map Side -
The humans’ map side is comprised of one giant 100% solid stone wall with a gate separating them and the mobs. The gate is the weakest part of the wall so make sure to protect it as much as you can! Humans can access passageways, ladders, and stairs leading to higher parts of the castle wall. Where then they can rain down arrows or tnt onto the mobs below.
Behind the walls lay a peaceful grassland that holds not only the key villagers but important resources to help defend the castle with. Make sure to protect these!

    Human’s Goal -
The goal of the humans is to protect both their villagers and castle, more-so the villagers. They can build whatever they want and destroy whatever they want on the human side of the map. Use the provided resources to build massive walls to keep the mobs at bay.
Don’t let the villagers die at all costs!

    Classes -
The humans will have an array of classes that will aid in their defense and offense.

    Soldier:

    Archer:

Bow will have power II on it.

    Engineer:

The hopper will be renamed to turret. When right clicked on the ground, it will spawn a turret made of a cobblestone wall and turret on top. The dispenser will face whatever direction the engineer is when placing it. The turret cannot shoot directly next to it or behind it.

Mobs will be able to destroy the turret by using explosives, picks, anything that can break a block can break the turret.

The turret has infinite ammo but has to manually be aimed and shot. It is aimed and shot by holding the lever and looking in the direction you want to aim and left clicking. The shots have a cooldown of 1 second. They produce no knockback and do 2.5 hearts per hit. Turrets cannot be placed within 3 blocks of each other.

    Builder

The redstone torch places a horizontal line of blocks perpendicular of what direction you’re looking. The line will be 5 blocks long. It uses the first block listed in your inventory. (Ex. If your inv is Cobble, Dirt, Gravel the line will be made of Cobble).

The regular torch does this same thing but vertically. Has a cooldown of 3 seconds.

    Pyro:

The eggs are renamed to Molotovs. When thrown, they will emit a flame particle. When the molotov lands on the ground it will place fire in a 3x3 radius that last for 3 seconds. When landed directly on a mob, it will do 2 hearts of true damage and set them on fire for 5 seconds. Fire will also be placed on the ground around them in a x2 radius.

    Swordsman:

    [1.9] Defender

The empty spot in the inventory would be a shield.

    Mobs
The mobs will try anything within their power to destroy the castle and kill the villagers, as well as kill as many humans as they can. Use the different mob classes and abilities to tear down that wall and wreak havoc onto the humans!

    Map Side -
The mob’s map side is just a long bridge that leads to the entrance gate of the humans’ castle. This bridge cannot be destroyed in anyway or built on by either mob or human. Mobs will spawn in the center of the circular platform at the far end of the bridge. The bridge is drawn-out like this to slow down mob rushes and minorly punish mobs that have died.

    Mob’s Goal -
The goal of the mobs is to kill all 3 key villagers in the humans’ castle as quick as they can while the humans are constantly building up the defense. Killing as many humans along the way is very beneficial as well. Destroy their defenses and pillage their castle in search of the villagers. Can’t crack the defense of the villagers? Go slaughter as many humans as you can!

    Classes -

    Zombie:

    Creeper:

Right clicking the redstone torch (Renamed “Detonate”) Will completely stop the creeper for 2 seconds, followed by a normal creeper explosion. Cooldown of 15 seconds, the timer will persist even after death. Explosion damage by creepers are cut by half to villagers.

Right clicking on the ghast tear (Renamed to “Creep”) Will give the player invisibility. The armor still can be seen. The effect wears off as soon as the creeper detonates, attacks another player, or is being attacked. This is used for hiding the username of the creeper.

    Skeleton:

    Bow has power II

    Spider:

    Placeable Cobwebs.

While holding the string (Renamed to “Climb”) the player can climb up to 5 blocks on any vertical surface.

    Enderman:

When right clicking the enderportal frame (Renamed “Warp Gate”) it will summon a end portal block with quartz slabs surrounding it. This is the entrance gate. The enderman can then go to a different location and place another warp gate as the exit gate. The warp gates will stay where they are until 5 players get teleported, the owner of the gate is killed, or a human breaks the slabs around the gate. Gates cannot be placed within 3 blocks of each other.
The gate is a 1 way teleport. Entrance to Exit.

Armor is enchanted to Protection II

    Blaze:

Right clicking the firecharge (Renamed “Fireball”) will shoot a fireball from the blaze and will create a small explosion upon impact. Deals 3 hearts of true damage per direct hit. Cooldown between fireballs is 3 seconds.

Magma Creams (Renamed to “Flame Orbs”) will behave exactly like Pyro’s molotovs.

    Pigman:

    Sword has sharpness II

Right clicking on the Nether Brick (Renamed Ambush) will spawn 2 more pigmen that will follow you wherever you go and will attack any nearby humans.

    Map:

    Mob’s side
    [IMG]
    Player castle’s front gate
    [IMG]
    Player side
    [IMG]

    Map build restriction layout
Red glass means players cannot build/destroy.
Green glass means players can build/destroy.
Beacons pinpoint the locations of the key villagers and spawns.
    Blue = Human’s spawn | Green - Mob’s spawn | Yellow - Villager

    Misc Information:

All mob players will have a green username.
All human players will have a blue username.
Pork heals 4 hearts when right clicked.
When killed, players do not drop what they have spawned with.
All armor/heads cannot be broken or taken off.
Soldier is the default class for humans.
Zombie is the default class for mobs.

    Respawning:

All players have a respawn cooldown of 3 seconds. The sequence is automatic, therefore you do not have to press the respawn button when you die.
When a player respawns they have 2 seconds of spawn invincibility.

    And that’s all!
Tell me what you think! Again, this used to be extremely popular back in the day and I hope to bring back all the fun it had to bring!

    Feedback/Criticism is appreciated.

I'm worried that the length of the game is too long. Not many people are willing to sit around for 30 minutes defending or attempting to attack some castle.

CTF rounds are 20 minutes each, and rounds in here have to be long enough for players to build their structures. Time can be reduced if needed.

I like the idea! Only question I have is, can Builders stack their line of vertical or horizontal blocks with the torches to make a wall for example, or do they do it by hand?

    Heya-

I really do love the concept! I've played an extremely similar game mode on a separate server pretty recently, and it was quite fun. As well, you showcasing some of your own builds to give a visual representation of the map was a fantastic and well thought out idea, taking some extra effort.

However, I am worried that it won't get enough players to carry out a good and enjoyable game. At the other server, it was groups of 100. Playing the game, you could easily tell that playing the same game with 15 players could ruin the concept. It's a game of massive teamwork, and the lack of players they would get at brawl (not small, just not enough) is something I fear could ruin gameplay.

Overall though, I like the idea and the game, and would love to play it on Brawl!

    Yes builders can do that.
That's a worry that any gamemode has. Hopefully that will not happen, but if it does smaller maps and villager reduction can fix it.
