Its been a while since Senior Moderator was changed to Manager.

For those of you who may not know, each SMod manages a specific gamemode. Tracking bugs, helping with staff, ideas, etc.

I'm wanting to know if you think it has helped. If you play a specific server, do you think your SMod manager has helped the server? Please don't throw out hate to that SMod, or even say what he has done wrong. Just say yes or no.

Thank you! (This is for a thread later-on)

HG doesn't really have one as @Viva is more responsible for hackers and appeals :/
So I'd vote no, but Vivs has done enough for HG for me to say yes despite that.

I personally think the theory behind this idea is spot on - each server should have it's own Server Manager (SMOD) who is responsible of the day-to-day running of this server. However, I don't think SMODs are actually given enough authority to carry out this practise effectively enough.

In my opinion, SMODs should pretty much be Admins on their "home" server and have ultimate authority over it, and I just don't believe this to be the case at the moment unfortunately....

In some cases like raid, @0racle has made an amazing impact but I think there could be more and better SMODs.

from previous experience, @0racle, @randomcitizen1, @18kss, and @Wario have done a good job. however, my opinion may not seem as good because im not a player. but from a coder's perspective i believe theyve helped me a lot and have made my job much easier

Is it? If the correct person is appointed who has the right motivation and drive to better their server, I don't believe this would be an issue at all and would in fact better the servers...

Party doesn't have an smod, but I feel as though I do a well enough job of it myself. I most likely will not be smod any time soon do to my radical thinking, but I'll be sticking it out with you guys to keep partying, so don't worry.

Sure it's fine if the SMOD is the "right person" for the server. But what if they're not? And are, for instance, interested in only what they think and their agenda instead of considering the various POV's from other staff members and a (forums) community which (on CTF) hasn't necessarily felt like part of the picture?

I think there's a lot to be said for SMOD's making everyone's job/life easier (@randomcitizen1 ) but, managers, as is the case with my dad's job (he is an accountant for the state), can easily do the exact opposite if 1) a lot of people don't think they should have been chosen for the job (creating unnecessary conflict) or 2) turn out to be very poor managers once they're in a position of greater authority/power.

All of that could be avoided, in my view, through a more group management approach instead of concentrating a lot of power with one person (i.e. bumping SMODs up to single server admins) and hoping they do/continue to do a good job. We don't need more managers, we need updates.

I think the community should be able to vote in some candidates and then the admins and owners make final decisions.

In my opinion managers have completely taken their role but have forgotten how to do basic moderator duties. I think their helping of lower staff as well as organizing events and keeping in touch with higher ups is great but they can improve on listening to reports, muting offenders and performing basic mod stuff.

Well, I think that most of the people (here, that have a forums account) have a complete knowledge of the game mode they play. The thing is that most of the players that don't understand how game modes work don't even have a forums account and are most likely to leave due to their lack of consciousness about this server.

Furthermore, not just the staff team should help new players or players in general. Everyone should share tips, advices, etc; in order to make your gamemode a better place, where "noobs" don't take too long to get how a gm works.

I beleive Wild West can be revived somewhat, because (no offense to @18kss, as I know he was busy with other duties, two very important) our original manager wasn't completely immersed in the server, whereas @randomcitizen1 has already been open with his plans to rework or update Wild West to make it more noob-friendly. He has listened to the community, and he's really more laid-back than you would expect among upper staff members. Props to him.

At the moment, the people in charge of the major decisions are people who aren't hugely active in-game. SMods know their gamemode very well, and know what they're doing (if they don't, they shouldn't be SMod in the first place). We have yin, who's the system admin. Canoodle, who deals with staff. Roke, who manages a crap ton of stuff. However, SMods, who's role in the staff team is to manage the server, often get less say. This isn't the fault in any of these admins, its a fault in the system itself. But yeah, it definitely should be fixed. The people who play the gamemodes (AKA, the SMod manager, mods, jmods and the players) should influence the decisions a lot more than they do right now.

    Conversation with one of them:

"What do you do as a manager"

"Honestly, just IP checks" they respond.

From this, I assume all they do is just ip checks, which I understand is a lot, but it's not really gamemode specific. I feel nothing has really changed from the old smod to the new one, other than the fact that there are a lot of them.

Please specify on what more you guys do other than ip checks?

@Aboves was with me when this happened ayy

Manage bugs and ideas for their gamemode, as well as advise the staff manager on applicants with potential applying for JMod on their gamemode?

I feel as if the game modes with out an SMod, should get one. Those include party, CTF, and kitpvp. Managers do a lot for their specific gamemode, and I think each game benefits from having one.
