    The SMS (Server Managers System) was originally developed to give every server a lead. Every SMod was assigned a server to perform multiple responsibilities, including;
    1. Report Bugs
    2. Gather community opinions
    3. Assist with server staff
    4. Gather ideas
    5. Communicate with the developers and administrators
Currently, two servers do not have a Manager, which is a flaw already. I'll get into my solution shortly... First I want to show you some ideas I've gathered from my previous thread:

    - What Peas is trying to say is, each server's Manager should BE the Admin of that server. Not mentally, but physically. They should have all the authority and ability to administrate their server.

    - Striker is saying that the Managers should solve more reports and performing basic moderation.

    - Blue is saying the Managers should have more authority over their servers. A great point.

    ---

While I agree with all of these I think there is a better solution.

    My Idea:

One word can make this system better. (Putty, if you're reading this, you know what I'm about to say. :stuck_out_tongue:). TEAMS.

Teams, the easiest way to accomplish multiple tasks on time and with ease. Most of you know of the network Mineplex. Mineplex organizes their staff team with teams. Each team has a leading administrator and senior moderators as the 'members' of the team. This allows them to accomplish different tasks efficiently and quickly.

Brawl needs to have four teams. Adding four teams gives four Administrator promotions and multiple Senior Moderator promotions.

    • Design; If you've played Brawl long enough, you know it can take some time to release updates. The design team will act as the bridge between the DEV Team and the community. They will work with Putty and the developers to create and organize the best possible updates.
    • Support; The ST will mainly work with in game/TS/Discord/Forums support and solving reports and appeals. They also manage IP-Checks, permanent bans, etc.
    • Community Management; CM will organize events for ALL servers. While also typing up announcement threads, gather community opinions, find and report bugs, etc.
    • Staff Management; Ran by @Canoodle, this team will focus around staff management. Not only will they assist Cuddle with applications, but also interviews, promotions/demotions, Hack Tests, etc.
    MANAGERS / ADMINISTRATORS:

    • Design: @randomcitizen1. He has a great connection with the community, really cares about changes, etc.
    • Support: @0racle / @Viva. Personally, I would pick Oracle because, he has great communication skills, is calm and can handle stress. I'm not staying Viva isn't, but I can't pick.
    • Community Management: @GreenPeas. Peas was a former administrator and (in my eyes) the first Community Manager. He loves this place and would do anything to keep it going.
Jayden, what about the current Admins? The current administrators will be promoted to Manager. This will allow Putty to make any changes necessary to the Admin rank, before giving it to the new Admins.

How does a Moderator join a team?

A moderator would be required to apply for the team. The administrator of the team would personally review and interview the applicant and make a disicion. The Admin will be required to inform Cuddled first and do the interview with her. If accepted, the moderator is promoted to the position and has now joined the team.

    -----

So, in conclusion. Implementing this system will not only open up more opportunities for Brawl. It will also give us three more Admins, multiple Senior Moderators and a more organized and motivated system. It will also give more of a transparency between the community and the staff team.

Hopefully yuh enjoyed my thread. If you have any comments or suggestions, please express them. Thanks!

Seems like a solid idea, as long as responsible people are put into those positions.

Although I think this could be good, for example the staff team. There'd only need to be 1-2 people in that team. But I like the creation/update team.

No it's not. I can tell you right now that CTF would not be doing any better than it currently is if @b0squet or @wintergreen3 or whoever was made an SMOD today, tomorrow, or the next. All that would happen is that you have another layer of authority with nothing to back it up. Why do I say nothing? Because CTF doesn't have a coder and hasn't had one since @NomNuggetNom resigned (I know he did the recent Necro rework but, as I understand it, that was in his free time) and therefore we get these suprise! updates in CTF every six to twelve months which fix some issues but leave a bunch of things either unchanged or worse than before (Elf wind element nerf).

Want to improve staff -> community communication (numbers 2 and 4 on your list of SMOD benefits)? Stop making some of these updates so damn secret that the forums community has zero idea whether any of anything that they're suggesting is being taken into account. Make threads like this, this, this, this and this. Ask people what they think of potential tweaks/reworks/maps/updates otherwise you're never going to get updates that really reflect popular input. That's why so many people got ticked off after several CTF updates including, but not limited to, the CTF Holiday Update and the CTF Tweak Update (correct me if I'm wrong but no one outside a few people in the staff team wanted an Elf wind element nerf, doubleclick Frenzy, reduced fire duration, or a nerf on Medic's sword - but not its absurdly huge health pool).

Here's an excerpt from the third linked thread, by @randomcitizen1 , because this is a perfect example of what I'm talking about here:

The rest of the thread (including the quoted section above) is fantastic. And it's exactly how you get people engaged without giving them too much "false hope" about updates. Props again for that thread.

I can't talk about the benefits to server staff from having an SMOD since I've never been server staff before. But I do know that when @Nohox was promoted to SMOD over six months back it caused some otherwise avoidable friction within the staff team (as was mentioned in several resignation threads later on).

Really? I would think active, paid coders would be the easiest way to "accomplish multiple tasks on time and with ease". After all, since @Totom3's been working on War 2.0 more progress has been made to getting it fully released to the public than was made in the last two years. What an impact a coder can have.

I get what you're saying about teams when it comes to organization, I really do. The design team is a perfect example of that and hypothetically it could be worthwhile having one. But (with respect to the design team) what good does it do to have timelines, schedules, and regular staff discussions about a set list of priorities if none of that can be implemented by someone who is paid, dedicated, is a wizard at Java, and isn't already working on projects for two other servers?

Mind you I don't want to fault anyone for "not having a coder for every server"!!! Brawl isn't rich and I can't imagine that it would be (remotely) easy to find dedicated, experienced coders who would be willing to work on a small Minecraft server for $7.25/hour instead of taking a job at Intel, Tableau, Microsoft, Green Pages, or a bunch of other corporations or startups out there where they could work for $25.50 with free food (Google) and healthcare benefits. It's nice to get updates. It'd be fantastic to get them more often. But you work with what you have and take what you can get.

    No it doesn't.

Mineplex has this kind of system because they're an enormous server with, at this time, 7,034 players compared to Brawl's 314. They have 20 times number of players Brawl does with many more servers, more forum, teamspeak, and discord activity, more revenue, more staff applications, and more problems (flamers, hackers, people who are a general nuisance, etc.). On Mineplex you not only need to organize the staff into 'team' or 'task force' (whatever you want to call it) on to deal with all that but also because Mineplex has a ton of staff members and it's harder to independently coordinate a group of say 300 people, than 50. For example, Mineplex has 2 official YouTubers (one of whom has millions of subscribers), 170 MODs and 41 J-MODs versus Brawl which has 21 MODs, 13 J-MODs and hasn't had much YouTube attention since a member of the YOGSCAST played here a few years back.

While (in my view) Brawl has bounced back slightly since Putty took over (just going off of day to day player counts) I really don't think it's anywhere near large enough to warrant this kind of organization. There just aren't enough resources or stuff going on for that to be the case, as it is with Mineplex. You're dealing with two completely different servers, of course they're going to allocate time and resources differently. It's way more efficient for Mineplex to have multiple teams of staff dedicated to all the aspects of server management than it is for Brawl because there's less sh*t to manage on Brawl. Mineplex is twenty times larger!

What would open up more opportunities for Brawl is another appearance on DramaAlert and a shoutout by PewDiePie. #FreeAdvertising

I know how to get on drama alert. Make a roast on ricegum, ricegum roasts you back. Drama alert reports it. All of keemstars fans join brawl. They all start spamming "Kemmstar is the greatest YouTuber of all time". They all get banned for spamming. We're back where we started.
