    Brawl Junior Moderator Application

Hey Brawlers, thank you for reading my JMod application. A few weeks ago, I posted my outro, so you might wonder why I am writing a staff application. I’d like to explain this at the end of the application.
First of all I want to introduce myself to those, who don’t know me yet. My name is Lukas Drechsel, I am a 17 year old pupil from Germany. I visit a grammar school / high school and I am in its last year. Nevertheless I am still unsure what I am going to do after the summer break. My hobbies are (except sitting in front of my computer) swimming, reading and of course I also enjoy a lot meeting my friends, as everybody. I hope you got an impression.

    What is your in-game name?
    SkullcrusherLD, former lukasdrechsel

Is your Minecraft account secured and migrated?
    It is, indeed.

    How old are you?
I am currently 17 years old.

What time zone are you in?
As I am living in Germany my timezone is the Central European Time (CET or UTC/GMT +1 hour) / the CEST in the summer.

Are you multilingual? Can you speak multiple languages?
Yes, I can. My mother tongue is German, but I am also able to speak (more or less) fluently English, as I’ve learnt it for 9 years in school.

What is your experience and knowledge of Brawl?
I cannot say when my exact join date was, but I’d set it at the end of 2012 or the beginning of 2013. I had Minecraft for some months, but never played on Multiplayer servers before, but just “offline” in my own world. A friend showed me Mc-War and explained a little bit how it works. Since this moment I started to play on Brawl more and more. My main server has always been Mc-War, from the former “MultiplayerServers” until today. Nevertheless during my long time on Brawl I have made experiences on (almost) every other server. I’d like to present my main memories & impressions I remember from the different servers.

Mc-War: Mc-War has, as stated above, always been my main server. When I joined there weren’t clans, the so called “rainbow parkour” was common and Roke wasn’t part of Brawl’s staff team. As you can see from my profile picture, I have especially been connected to “GSG”, a clan on mc-War, until today.

PVP/Raid: After Raid has been released I played it a lot with my friends, especially the genius function of “tracking” someone and the whole system are, until today, unique. Some of you might remember me, leading the team “501st”. Nowadays I don’t play it anymore.

Party: I have been playing McParty since it was released. Of course not as regular as War, but if you got only a few minutes, this server is my main choice. I personally like especially the variety of party and its different gamemodes.

Mc-WarZ: I also used to play WarZ, but as I have to admit, with nearly no success. As I haven’t had a rank for a long time, it was hard to compete with teams and players, who can teleport to eachother.

I have also played fpsHg with guns, Minestrike and Skywars, before it had been removed. Furthermore I have tried every current server from Brawl, so I got a basic idea.

What is your experience with moderating servers, if any?
Sadly I don’t have any experience moderating a server. Nevertheless I hope to compensate this with my big experience on Brawl as a whole. As you can see e.g. from the question above I am used to nearly every Brawl server. I think this will be a big advantage, if it comes up to help on many different servers, as a staff member.

Why do you want to become a moderator on Brawl?
I had to realize that War becomes more and more toxic and unfriendly. I am aware of /chatreport and I also use it, but that doesn’t fight the roots. In my opinion prevention is one of the most important points, when you want to create a friendly playing environment. As far as I have made the experience this can often be solved by an online staff member, which prevents e.g. a toxic chat. Sadly in the EU-Time zone there aren’t enough War mods to make sure this prevention works. I’d like to help out. Moreover JMods+ are able to punish rule breakers directly; they don’t have to wait for somebody to check e.g. the chatreports. By doing this, they can prevent that the rule breaker continues his behavior until he is muted.

Additionally there are always a few hackers. Although War is not as affected as e.g. KitBrawl, we also have some sneaksprinters, spider hackers, blinkers and so on. At the moment I often ask other online mods (from different servers) to hop on War and deal with the hacker, but I’d like to do this myself, as it’s just faster.

Furthermore I think many people in the community feel like Brawl’s staff don’t hear their voice, their ideas & suggestions, their criticism or their questions e.g. about the future. As a Jmod I’d like to help to deal with this, I will call it “communication problem”, as good as possible/allowed.

Have you ever used a hacked client before?
Yes. As already mentioned above I had been playing the old PvP a lot. I often was raided by hackers, especially Nodus used to be a big problem. That’s why I downloaded it myself to test its functions and possibilities. As I hated the hackers, who raided me, I didn’t use it online, but offline on a Singleplayer world to discover everything and think about how to counter it.
I will give you an example: I used to use chests to store my stuff, but the “chest finder” of Nodus allows you to see near chests easily through walls. After I realized that, I stored my stuff in droppers.

Have you ever been punished (banned, kicked, muted, etc) legitimately on a public Minecraft server? If so, why?
As you can see here I have been punished once on PvP for abusing the spawn warp glitch. I cannot defend this, I knew what I was doing and I was also aware of the fact it’s forbidden. I think, I did it to safe some diamonds. Nevertheless, except that temporary ban I have never been punished, not on Brawl and not on a different server.

What do you consider your greatest strength?
In my opinion my greatest strength is my humor. I personally always like the mods with a good sense of humor much more than the others, as they have a better connection to the community. I think to create a good play environment you need not only no rule breakers and a calm chat – the players have to enjoy their time. With a friendly & funny server staff this is much more realistic than e.g. with a staff team, which is just focused on catching rule breakers and enforcing the rules. You need to have a connection to the community. That’s what I’d like to bring in.

Nevertheless I am aware of the downside of this “humor”, ingame as well as on the Forums. If you write something people could think you are serious, when you are joking or even worse, they could think you are joking when you are serious. But I think, as I am aware of this danger and plan to make it even clearer if I am joking or not, e.g. by using some smileys, this downside won’t be a big deal.

What do you consider your greatest weakness?
My biggest weakness is my impatience. If I have to wait for something a long time, an information, fact, answer,… it doesn’t matter what it is, I get extremely impatient and sometimes even angry. Nevertheless, I think I have improved a lot the last years. Though – there is a lot work, which hasn’t been done yet and waits in the future, so I’d call the impatience my greatest weakness.

Which Brawl server(s) are you most active on?
That is, obviously, Mc-War, as you can see if you look at my stats here.

How many Brawl staff applications have you made in the past?
    I made one.

What is the date of the last application you submitted?
The application is from Dec 16, 2013.

    Do you have TeamSpeak?
Yes, I have. Sadly I have to admit that my Teamspeak activity is my downside. I have it and if somebody wants me to join and talk, I (mostly) do so, but this is not really often.

Anything else you would like to state?
Yes. As mentioned at the beginning, I’d like to comment on the fact that I write an application a short time after I made an outro.

After I made my outro, I really planned to leave Brawl. But if I am honest to myself (and look at the statistics, they don’t lie), I did not really leave Brawl. I am still ingame active, as well as on the forums. I guess I would have nevertheless just continued playing while this “fake” outro is on my profile.

But a bunch of things happened, which made me think about applying for JMod. I have always dreamed of being part of Brawl’s staff team, but somehow I always thought that I could never get it that it would be a shame to apply. A few things made me change my mind: the last days several people asked me ingame, as well as on the Forums, why I have not applied yet, why I am no staff member, because they would like to see me in that position. I have realized that there is a possibility to help Brawl and fulfill my dream by doing exactly this: Writing an application. So, here you go.

I’d like to thank you again for reading this application, if you got any questions, please feel free to ask. I appreciate feedback,

    Lukas

If your application is accepted, you will move on to an interview on TeamSpeak.

Your friendly, helpful and mature. In reading the end of your application I understand your point about the outro.
My only concern is your teamspeak activity. Even if you are in the lobby or the war channel and ready to help players, that is a improvement. You are also an EU player, and stated on Algelier's application we are in need of EU mods. I would like to see how you in Trail. Best Of Luck.

Thank you! I guess I will try to be in the war channel the next weeks, atleast from time to time, to get used to it.

You are a great guy, you ar helpf and everyone knows you. I hope you make it to trail. There aren't a lot of war players who use TS, so I understand that your TS activity is quite low. Good luck!

I can't think of anyone more qualified for the job. You have showed me, during the time you were owner of GSG, that you are a genuine leader, and can take responsibility with maturity. You have my vote. +1

+1, I really enjoyed reading your application. It was detailed, well-written and I haven't seen any issues with the answers you've provided us.

Furthermore, your activity on all sections is great, although I'd suggest you to become a little more active on Teamspeak.

The last thing I'd like to state, is the answer you wrote for your greatest weakness. Impatience as a staff member is difficult to deal with and I have also witnessed that.
So just to make sure, what would you do in this situation:

    1. If a player ( or more ) is continuously breaking the rules, e.g spamming chat and you've muted them tons of times, how will you deal with it? Just give me the steps you would make to handle this difficult situation, because this player is just not listening to you.

I also wouldn't suggest releasing your full name, it shouldn't be an issue but it can be mis-used.

That was all, I wish you the best of luck.

Thank you for the support, I appreciate it!
I am pleased you value me that high, thank you very much.
Thanks, I am glad you like my application!
Sadly I was "dumb" enough to call myself "lukasdrechsel" when I bought Minecraft. As everybody can look up my name history, I didn't see the sense in hiding my name.
A few months ago I probably would have struggled to answer directly, because it wasn't really possible to punish the rule breakers in the right way. Nevertheless, I don't think it is a problem any longer, as Brawl has released some adjustments: There has been a "New Warning system" added, as you surely know, which allows the system to punish the rule breaker in an escalating way. After a few uses of /warn the rule breaker can already be banned for some days!
I think with this knowledge my impatience shouldn't bother me in that situation, as I know the rule breaker will be punished by the system efficiently. Nevertheless, if I ignore that fact: If I come in a situation, in which a player is not listening and I feel like getting impatient/angry... I guess, as I cannot ignore the player, I will try to listen to some calm music, take some deep breaths and try to continue as good as possible. In my opinion it wouldn't be a solution to leave or "escape".
