    Brawl Junior Moderator Application

    Read over this thread: https://www.brawl.com/threads/14752/

If you do not meet the requirements (active, helpful, must have TeamSpeak, etc) do not apply yet; it will be an auto deny.

What is your in-game name? - My in game name is DnaMooshroom. I do not plan on changing it. You can see my name history here.

Is your Minecraft account secured and migrated? - Yes, my Minecraft account is migrated, and secured. I have taken steps to ensure that this is so. Should a potential breach arise, I would be able to recover my account quickly. The same goes for my forums account here on Brawl.

How old are you? - I am Sixteen years old as of March.

What time zone are you in? - I currently reside in Eastern Standard. (UTC -5).

Are you multilingual? Can you speak multiple languages? - The short answer is yes. My first language is English. Being my first language, I am proficient in holding a conversation in English, written or spoken. In addition to English, I am currently studying Spanish. I am at the point with Spanish where I can understand the gist of what someone is saying, in a potential conversation. If need be, I would also be able to respond in Spanish, however, some would say that it is rather crude. In the aspect of conversing in written Spanish, I would say that I am more than proficient to the point where I could determine what is being written, and respond in Spanish in a timely manner. As I plan to continue to study Spanish, my skill in this language can only improve.

What is your experience and knowledge of Brawl? - My experience and knowledge of Brawl are extensive as you can see here, I have been playing on Brawl since May of 2014. I initially began my playing time on War. Here, I played for several months, gathering common knowledge of Brawl in general, and more advanced information regarding War. I do not recall how, but after some time, I began playing on Survival PvP. The rest, as some would say, is history. I have been playing Survival PvP since early 2015. I played on notable teams such as BA55 and Hype. My knowledge regarding Survival PvP/Raid are extensive. I understand the history of the community, which I think is key in being a staff member. I also posses the knowledge of nearly all commands on the current Raid server. Finally, I am more than proficient in the information surrounding more complicated knowledge such as tracking. If needed, I would be able to explain all of this information to a player in simple terms someone could understand easily.

What is your experience with moderating servers, if any? - To put it simply, I have no past experience moderating servers. However, everyone has to start somewhere. Numerous staff members in the past have made Brawl their first server to moderate on. Obviously experience helps, however in my case I don’t think this will be an issue. I typically grasp things quickly, so I believe that the transition from a regular member of Brawl to a Junior Moderator will be smooth. I feel I understand the duties of a Junior Moderator to be able to make my first tenure as a moderator an excellent one.

Why do you want to become a moderator on Brawl? - I want to be able to impact the community in a positive way. I believe that by becoming a moderator on Raid, I can accomplish this goal. I love working with the community and making their experiences on Raid fun. I think this is evident between the Community Projects I have been working on, and the ideas I try to contribute whenever I can to the server. Finally, I believe Raid could use another moderator to alleviate some of the duties @AnonymousGalaxy and @Eil currently hold. Do not get me wrong, they do a terrific job. However, managing a server like Raid isn’t a task for just two people, I think I could do a good job of handling some of the more mundane duties for the time being, so they can focus on more important things and bring back Raid to where it was previously.

Have you ever used a hacked client before? - Yes. I have used x-ray, but it stops and ends there. I have used x-ray, but not on Brawl. I used it because I was curious as to what it would look like. I tested this out when Survival PvP had a rampant x-ray issue. I wanted to make sure my bases and vaults would be x-ray proof on Survival PvP. I wanted to understand the perspective of an x-rayer and determine the best way to work against them.

Have you ever been punished (banned, kicked, muted, etc) legitimately on a public Minecraft server? If so, why? - I have not been banned, kicked, nor muted legitimately on any public minecraft server. I understand that if I am to become a moderator on Brawl, I have to represent myself with the manner that I would do so on Brawl.

What do you consider your greatest strength? - I would consider my control over my emotions to be my greatest strength. No matter what the situation is. I am able to keep a level head and look at both perspectives. I think this is a key trait needed by a successful moderator, as you need to be able to look at both sides of the arguments, and make an unbiased decision.

What do you consider your greatest weakness? - I would say my greatest weakness would be lack of focus, for lack of a better term. Sometimes, I notice myself becoming absorbed in a task that takes away from me being able to help others or aid in “policing” the server and reporting rule breakers. Considering when I first started playing Survival PvP when I only talked to my teammates in team chat, I have come a long way from where I once was. This is something that I will continue to work on, so I can make a bigger impact.

Which Brawl server(s) are you most active on? - I am easily most active on Raid. I also play War, Party, CTF, and Kit Brawl occasionally, but they are all far seconds to Raid. You can view my play time on Raid here. As of March Twenty-Seventh I have averaged roughly two hours and forty-five minutes per day on Raid since its last reset (February Fourth). I believe this shows that I am extremely active on Raid, and would fill the time requirement of one hour a day easily.

How many Brawl staff applications have you made in the past?
    - I have not made a Brawl staff application beforehand to this one.

What is the date of the last application you submitted? - N/A

Do you have TeamSpeak? Yes, I have teamspeak. I am pretty much on anytime I am online and playing Brawl. So, if I need to I can hop on quickly to aid a player with issues, or help fellow staff members if be if anything should arise.

Anything else you would like to state? - Yes, if you have any concerns or questions, feel free to present them. I will do my best to appease your concerns and questions. Thank you for taking the time to read my application.

If your application is accepted, you will move on to an interview on TeamSpeak.

Please insert a Yes / No poll below.

I've only heard good things about you. There isn't really anything that I want to bring up apart from this big fat +1.
    Good luck!

    Hi there!
You look like a really good candidate, I did take a look at your in-game activity and it brought up something quite interesting. Why are you applying for Raid over War, you seem considerably more experienced there?

    Hi there,
To answer your question, you have to remember the data compiled from Raid has only been there since February Fourth, the date of the reset, where as my stats from War have been there since I started playing, in 2014. I would say my knowledge and experience regarding Raid and War, are about equal, with Raid now having the edge. However, I do not hold the same motivation to play War and the passion for the gamemode as I do for Raid. Additionally, most of my forums posts have originated from the Raid/Survival PvP section of the forums, I think this exemplifies that my knowledge of Raid has surpassed mine of war. If anything, I think my experience with war can be seen as a positive, if need be I can step in and presume a role there. Ultimately, as some would say my "true love" is Raid, I truly believe that I can make the biggest impact there as a moderator, despite my experience with War.

Thank you for your feedback, I really appreciate that you asked that question, as I was not sure if I had made my transition from War to Raid clear in my application. I hope this eases some of your concern regarding my choice for what server I applied to.

The only thing I question is your helpfulness in game, the few times I've been in game with you you haven't answered my questions.

Other than that I think you have a good shot at it! Your mature, active and friendly, +1.

    Good luck!

    Thank you for your feedback,
Regarding my helpfulness in game, I believe you and I were on at a time this past weekend when numerous staff members were on. When staff members are on, I try to not overstep on their duties as staff members. I have attempted to aid players and enforce rules previously while staff members have been online, but then other players online at the time asked me to "stop mini-modding". So, as of late I have tried to avoid this to dodge accusations, because another thing I understand that is necessary to being a successful applicant is that you can not be over eager, and over step your bounds as a community members when it comes to enforcing rules and such. I'm sure if you were online with me during a time with little to no staff members, I would do a much better job with aiding you in-game.
I hope this resolves your concern over my helpfulness. Additionally, thank you for the +1 despite your concern, I am glad that you think I could be a successful moderator.

You can be helpful while staff members are on. Just not enforcing rules. I understand what worries you though.

    Thanks for the clarification!

    Hi Mooshroom,

your application and responses to questions asked by community members and fellow staff are professional, detailed, and well written. For that you deserve a lot of credit as it puts the focus on you, as an applicant, rather than on some minor detail(s) that could have been avoided with a few minutes of proofreading. You also deserve credit for your activity on Raid over (roughly) the last month. 120+ hours of gameplay is nothing to sneeze at. That said your forums activity is less than spectacular, but as long as you check in and are familiar with what goes on here, which you do, that's not an issue for me. What is an issue for me is how serious you are about moderating Raid rather than, for instance, MC-WAR

This answer ^^ is a contradiction. First you state that you want to be able to make a difference in the community with projects, ideas, community interaction and so forth, which is fantastic and I respect that. But then you say that you want to be Raid J-MOD because there are only 2 mods and that you would "[handle] some of the more mundane duties" while Eil and Anonymous Make Raid Great Again (sarcasm aside). Perhaps I'm misunderstanding what you're saying but it sounds like you want to become a Raid J-MOD because you want to be a J-MOD, rather than getting that rank and actively working to make a difference for the server. Anyone who's even somewhat emotionally mature can moderate the behavior of others. That's not a problem, especially in your case. What is a problem is whether or not someone applying for a position where they have considerably more influence over server changes and events can be relied upon to do their bit in that area.

I don't know exactly how long you've been playing Raid but it's clear you've been playing/have played MC-WAR for much longer. You've also said that if needed, you could "step in and presume a role there". If that's the case, why didn't you apply for WAR instead of Raid?

Recently you've shown prolific activity on Raid, both in game and on the forums. And that's great. It really is. But activity is not the same thing as dedication. You've said that "the more I post on the forums, the more I begin to see why it is so useful". Fine. Keep posting on the forums and being active in game/on TS. Continue to show how dedicated you really are and you'll have my +1. +0 for now

First off, thank you for your feedback and in-depth analysis.

To my grammatical mistakes, I am a sixteen year old, to put it simply. I would not expect my grammar to be perfect. What you didn't see was the multiple times I had read over my application to proofread. I suppose I didn't catch all of my mistakes, however. My apologies.

To your second point, of the controversy surrounding my choice of Raid over War, I apologize if I sounded blunt. However, I don't know how to articulate that I simply don't think War is the best place for me to moderate. If I did, I would have applied there. If you could look at my monthly hours, on War, you would see that my hours on Raid far outweigh those of War. I would consider my situation compatible to Ritzy's, when he applied. Ritzy applied for Warz despite having the obvious expierence playing Raid. He applied for WarZ because that's what he was passionate about. I hold the same case.

To your third point, about me wanting to becoming JMOD simply because there is only two moderators, is a little twisted. What I was trying to imply is that I want to be a JMOD so I can help run a server that I love. Not simply to fill a position on the staff team. I was trying to insuate that if I were to become JMOD, I could help take things off Eil's and Anon's plate. This would be so they could focus on other, more important things. Then eventually, I pass it down to the next man, hopefully.

Hopefully this clears up some things, again, thank you for your in depth response.

I think a reason for your skepticism is that I don't think either of us have talked online before. If you would like, hop on Raid sometime and I will give you a show around.

This brings up something interesting. Removing burdens from fellow moderators is of course a good thing (you're there to help out for a reason of course), but taking all of the mundane jobs as a new junior isn't really what I consider to be the only aspect of a new staff member. Junior moderators and moderators have the power to change a community for the better with their ideas, suggestions and judgement, not just perform some mundane task like banning a hacker. Whether you're on the same level as your fellow moderators on a gamemode, underneath them or even higher than them, all of them need to be working together to improve a gamemode, not only a few with the rest taking on boring everyday housecleaning duties.

I'm going to give you my +1 because you seem like a good candidate for the role despite having more time on war. With that said, if you are accepted, dive head first into trying to make Raid better for everyone with Eil and Anon. Don't just take the boring jobs, it gives the team an extra head when making decisions and implementing suggestions

Remember, as DNA said above, that the stats on www.brawl.com/players for War is an accumulation for many years, Raid is not even 2 months because there was a reset on Feb 4th. He has played the maps before this too, but the times for those do not show as they are past maps - In total, DNA has a large amount of activity on Raid.

I have been with you on Raid/Survival PvP for many years now, through BA55 and Hype. Your knowledge of the gamemode is very good, and I can't think of a time you have got angry at something, or flamed in chat (cool head). From being on a team with you, I have gotten to know you quite well - You are mature, active (on all 3 aspects), and fun to play with which is always an important thing.

Good luck, you have my +1

Thank you for the feedback, and the +1.
I understand that I shouldn't just focus on mundane tasks if I were to become JMOD, I meant it more out of respect for seniority towards Eil and Anon. I should have made this clearer previously.

Thank you Eli. A +1 from you means a lot. I'm glad I have a chance of joining you and Anon on the Raid staff team.

Definitely qualified for the position. You're active, mature, and friendly in-game, on the forums, and on TS. You'd make a great addition to the team. You have what it takes and from being on a team with you I know you're definitely capable of working well with us which is a big thing I look for. Definite +1, you have my full support. Best of luck.

Well respected among both the War and Raid communities. Your application for Raid staff makes sense, I can definitely see that it's the gamemode that interests you the most, even with statistics showing otherwise. +1.
