Definitely LAN, cables are always more reliable in my opinion. Plus all motherboards come with a LAN input, so it can also be cheaper.
Low-profile coolers aren't necessarily cheaper; the Hyper 212 Evo is a decent cooler and only costs $25.

The motherboard you selected costs 220€ in Germany; you can get a good Z270 motherboard for around 140€ already. Really the only benefits it has are better looks, Wi-Fi/bluetooth and RGB lighting options.

If I want to attach a LAN cable, would it be plugged directly into the motherboard?

Intel runs cool and most of the CPUs come with a basic cooler. With good airflow in the case, you would easily be able to get away with running the one it comes with.

For a wired connection you need an Ethernet cable that would plug from your modem/router into your motherboard. Wired connections tend to be more stable and quicker, depending on where your WIFI router is.

Yeah my router is gonna be in the floor below me - I've already planned for this and will be laying a cable through to my room (I'll be moving ito a different room).

Get a few friends who like computers and wait until they decide to upgrade theirs. I'm getting one for half of the price ($600 exact) of the original and having a bud Dan build it for me. My current is a crappy stock Gateway from 2008 XD
