19th of May - In memory

Yes, today seems to be like any other day for the majority of you. This isn't the case with me.

First off, as most of you know, I am Greek. What I haven't ever mentioned is that I am a Pontian Greek (I once said I am a Spartan but this is also true as Pontians are technically Spartan migrants of Black Sea).

Like today, approximately 350.000 Pontians became victims of the Genocide and were eventually executed. This is a very rough day for me, like every year. This doesn't mean I won't be positive later this day but at this very moment I am feeling negative. This day means a lot to me.

Nevertheless, there was a percentage of Pontian Greeks that managed to escape to freedom but this was not any easy. Many people were forced to live their houses back and migrate to nearby countries in order to be saved from being executed along with others. My ancestors were some of the few Pontians that managed to escape in Georgia, a nearby country next to the Black Sea. It was only one generation ago that my family moved to Greece, where I was born.

I wrote this thread in memory of the victims of the Pontian Genocide. Rest in peace.

If this is sarcasm I would suggest you take a look at Alexander The Great's Macedonian Empire. People lived equally despite their race and there used to be freedom of faith.
