    Lmao. *rates agree*

    Rational skeptic.

Athiesm is not a system of belief, it is essentially the default state of humanity towards religion.

If you don't believe in Thor and Odin, you're an atheist towards the Norse gods since you lack a belief in them.

At any rate, I don't actively believe there is no God; I live my life without ever thinking about a god or gods. Hence, I lack a belief in a god or gods.

Amazing how religions are so quick to claim that atheists are a religion in order to discredit atheism.

    God murdered the world.
*edit* for the record I don't believe in the flood but anyone who does has to rationalize mass murder, bar none.

At any rate there's a brilliant PM going on, the more the merrier.

Protip: Don't click on the threads with "Religion" in the title to avoid religious debates :stuck_out_tongue:

One of my friends was trying to be edgy and said God was worse than Hitler... both people killed millions to make a "perfect race". He was only saying it as a joke (he's absolutely hilarious, isn't he...) but the more I think of it, the less I'm able to justify it.

Would be interesting to see what you think about it, @Gehenna_Beam.

Some people are so sick in their mind that they do whatever they are told to do. Like the Muslims for example, they are attacking other countries to create their own country. What is in it for those terrorists? Nothing. They are merely slaves who fight for some king. Someone powerful just once said that they need to fight for their religion and everyone just listened.
The world would be a much better place if there weren't any religions. But that's what all the religious people say too; they say that everyone should have the same religion (kinda why they are fighting).

Everyone should use common sense and live in peace.

It's true God has many people killed throughout ancient history, but they deserved it. It's always justified when God does it. As sinners, we all deserved to be destroyed by the Hands of God. We humans do not have the right to kill another human, unless we absolutely have to.

Is God still killing people today? Probably not. I believe He's done directly killing. Why He was very intervening in Old Testament times was to make way for Jesus.

God is very merciful. He gives everyone a chance in life. Those He had killed, the people of Jericho, the Sodomites, and even the Israelites had there chance, but in the end, they disobeyed God far too much.

They define atheism like this on their website:

"Atheism is one thing: A lack of belief in gods.
Atheism is not an affirmative belief that there is no god nor does it answer any other question about what a person believes. It is simply a rejection of the assertion that there are gods. Atheism is too often defined incorrectly as a belief system. To be clear: Atheism is not a disbelief in gods or a denial of gods; it is a lack of belief in gods."

No, disbelief is active non belief. Lack of belief is just not thinking about it at all.

Mind if I take a quick whack at it?

Maybe you should ask your friend to look at it (only briefly if necessary) through the Christian perspective. Now, for the sake of this answer let us assume that there is a God and it is the God that Christians believe in. Now, how are we supposed to justify all of this death? Well for starters we are defending the truth, which is far more important than any petty dispute that causes many of the wars in the world. Since we believe so firmly that there is a God and that He is essentially the truth then He is worth fighting for.

Obviously, I vehemently disagree with the comparison of God to Hitler, but to put it briefly: Hitler hated the Jews and called them evil for various reasons (obviously none are true).

I hope this helped slightly, and if not feel free to ask and I will try my best to answer

I believe in God because it's the most (only) logical thing to believe in.

No, which is my point here. I say gehenna used a source that does not support what he says in any way whatsoever.

Yes, except for all the logical leaps believing in a god requires one to accomplish.

For example, a child in Africa was born with malaria (in this case standing in for sin). You, as a stand-in for God, know how to cure it and can do so easily, being all knowing and all powerful. Therefore, being a loving God, the logical answer would be to cure the child of his sin directly.

Instead, you have a child in isreal, make the child tell everyone he's you, then set it up so the only cure for this child's malaria is to believe in your child despite not ever meeting or even being aware of him since this child is a month old.

You then 'kill' your child as a scapegoat for the kid's malaria, but regret it and undo the whole process bringing your kid back from the dead, and get a bunch of barely literate dudes to write all this down in a book, with conflicting tales and a bunch of violence tossed in for good measure, as being a loving, all knowing, all powerful God, this is the only way to cure the child.

Meanwhile the kid dies of the malaria he never knew he had nor ever did anything to deserve, being a month old.

    ------

Meanwhile in the real world, doctors TREAT THE KID.

For starters, you should be vehemently against all of this death, because of basic human morality.

Assuming that your God is the only path to truth is a very fast way to have lies fed to you, because anything can be done in the name of a God.

Also historically the petty dispute that caused a lot of the wars in this world was religion, in the name of defending the 'truth'.

My thoughts on it exactly. It's great that god is this supposedly great guy, and I'm not knocking people for that, but at the same time, I can't get behind the idea that he's a good person. He lets people die on a daily basis, then claims it's because either they didn't believe in him or it's all part of a master plan. Why doesn't he come down from his throne and tell that to the parents of the child that was brutally murdered? I'm sure they'd like to know that their child was only being used as a pawn.
