So I've decided I'm sick of playing minecraft on my 45fps laptop with 1/3 screen full of dead pixels, that doesn't charge properly with my wireless optical 2.0 mouse.

I can spend a lot of money but I shouldn't have to if all I'm playing/recording is minecraft right? I'd like to keep the price to 600 and below but I realized I don't really know what I'm getting into.

    1. Is it worth building a PC if all I'm going to do is playing non graphic intensive games like minecraft?

    2. If so, what kind of build should I be looking at? If not, then what kind of prebuilt PC should I buy?

I have no point of reference as I've only ever played on this craptop. So all comments appreciated!!

You can get a decent Acer Aspire or Dell Inspiron for 600.
I'd highly recommend building your own PC - it's cheaper, not too hard, and you get some great experience along the way!

Building a PC will be worth it, because with the right parts you can focus on what Minecraft really needs to run well, and not blow money on an expensive brand name that will take most of the money for outdated, or purely useless parts.

I recommend https://pcpartpicker.com if you're going to try to build it yourself, and I wish you the best of luck with your build (^:

I prefer building PCs but buying a pre-built really isn't a bad choice if your only video game is Minecraft. I think the main pro's of building it yourself at this price range would be that it would be easier to replace parts in the future and possibly a higher quality power supply. Can't go wrong either way imo.

I've been searching around and some guy was recommending this build for recording minecraft. Is there anything here that's unnecessary? Anything that should be changed? This could be completely off base because I have 0 knowledge about computer parts

Thanks for all the replies so far!!

Decent build - you might need a better motherboard.
Mostly: You have no screen included there, so you're looking at another 120 dollars minimum for a decent screen.

You might - you'll need a hard drive holder slot (5$) certainly, some screws, and the rest can be bought cheaply in Canada and the US - tougher in Germany.

Wi-Fi card if you plan on using Wifi instead of ethernet.

Also, the RX 470 is sold out everywhere because of etherium mining applications, so switch to a 1050ti (since I see you're only playing minecraft and that would be cheaper and still do the job)

Spend more or save to get a larger budget for a decent PC. Trust me.

As your preferences in gaming grows you will realize that Minecraft is not the only game you want to actually play and you will feel very unsatisfied knowing that you are restricted to a small amount of games because of your 600$ PC's capacity to handle them.

That's why I suggest you increase your budget from $600 to the $1000 range and even though it is a huge jump in price you will feel much happier when you realize you made the right choice by actually seeing a NOTICEABLE change in your PC's performance.

    Answering #1:
If you choose not to listen to the route I have provided atleast go for the PC option because you would much rather have the ability to upgrade your parts as your wants grow than to be stuck with a mediocre and overpriced gaming laptop for the next few years.

He could always get the money and upgrade later rather than waiting. There will also be more options available depending on how long he waits till he upgrades. I built my PC 3 years ago ~500$ and still works like a charm. I'm upgrading soon so I can play 144hz

The i5-6500 is not over-clockable, so you will likely be fine with the stock cooler coming with it. The money for the Hyper 212 Evo could be spent better elsewhere.

You will also definitely not need a 600W power supply for this system; you will be fine with 500W or even just 450W. As you can see from the calculation on pcpartpicker, the system will use 385W at maximum load.

You could save some money on the case, depends on how good you want it to look. If you are building a PC for the first time, you might want to get a case with some more space. Makes building it a lot easier.

Finally I would definitely include an SSD for the operating system.

Away from that list and onto general suggestions: I agree with TheSinisterOne; by spending a bit more money, you could build a PC that can run more than Minecraft and is more future proof.
    Here is an example: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/X642wV
That PC would cost 750$, not including the case. With a case of your choice, it would sum up to about 800$. This is higher than your 600, but it has an SSD, a brand-new CPU, a GTX 1060 6 GB and a better motherboard.

I agree with this build, but I am wondering if putting an AMD ryzen 1400 since it's OC-able, has a better stock cooler, 8 threads and is about 20$ cheaper (188$ vs 170$) with the only negative being that it is .2GHz lower than the locked i5 7500 which could be overcome with a very light overclock achievable with the stock cooler . We could also pair it with a cheap a320 motherboard without Overclocking support or a, possibly a bit higher cost, B350 motherboard with overclocking support. Replacing the Intel CPU and intel motherboard with this will probably lower your overall expenses by ~30$. But @Lord_Roke 's build is still a nice one if you don't fancy AMD much

The part about a better cooler is true, but if he only wants to use the PC for gaming, he won't really profit from more than 4 threads. Gaming needs few, good cores.
If the PC was for video editing or streaming, Ryzen would be the way to go.
