alright boys and girls since a lot of religious peoples seem to be unclear about how evolution works and why it's fact, I'm making this thread where we can discuss the science of it and hopefully myself and other atheists can answer your questions

    Banned words:
Religion, Christianity, Jesus, God, faith, Islam, etc.

These words will only muddy the water and are irrelevant to the science of evolution. If I see them, I will disregard whatever it is the person is saying, and I encourage y'all to do the same

So, any questions to start off with?

but my religion of christianity tells me that evolution is a scam and i trust my faith more than science and the religion of islam because god sent jesus down to earth and made the world.

I believe in some forms of evolution. I however do not believe that the theories surrounding evolution are entirely correct. For example, humans supposably evolved from an ape like species. I do not believe this is correct just because this theory (to my knowledge, and correct if I'm wrong) was something Darwin came up with and many of his theory's about evolution have actually been proven incorrect. I do think there may have been a more intelligent race of ape like species in the past which are most likely extinct now but I do not believe we evolved from them. Carbon dating and other ways scientist use to date fossils etc. have been proven to not be 100% accurate and in some cases, completely incorrect.

Baws has already answered this in the pm but I wanna hear your thoughts too

First, evolutionists strongly deny the idea that men came from the apes. They insist that both man and the apes came from a hypothetical ape-like ancestor, the evidence for which has not yet been discovered.

Firstly, could you clarify some of the confusion I'm seeing by people using the term "theory" vs. "scientific theory"? I see there isn't a universal standing of how the terminology works.

a theory is simply a set of ideas intended to explain something (ex: i think that god made the world because of all the beauty around us and because humans are so intricate) while scientific theory is less about guesses and much more about proving those ideas through testing, obvservations, and facts (ex: we know that atoms are mostly empty space because of an experiment we conducted where we observed that X particles pass through an atom almost every time)

What? Pretty sure evolutionists know and accept the knowledge that apes and humans have the same ancestors, and if they don't they probably heard from the wrong person...

Also it isn't hypothetical there's DNA to trace back, that proves that this ks the probable answer.

Has there been any evidence for the common ancestor, and if not, how do you trace DNA back to something that has not been proven to exist yet?

Look dude, I know you're just voicing opinion but do you have to shove it down people who don't believe what you believe throats? I just think it's unneeded. I say just let people believe what they want to believe, and I understand that by disproving them you're trying to get to the bottom of all this stuff, but there is no need to slate other beliefs.

    You're so deep.
We should call you Jhonyy deep.

From my admittedly meager understanding, the way that this is done is by comparing the genes of animals and looking for similarities. Since we know pretty much exactly how DNA transfer works from parent to child, it's just working backwards and comparing the similarities of the 'codes' that make up the DNA of living creatures.

Since it has been determined through testing that pretty much all life on earth (including, as far as I can tell, preserved life in Amber) follows the same 'coding' system, it's currently the accepted theory that this is because it has all come from one life form from absolutely AGES ago.

This is the current hypothesis for a common ancestor. It's not considered to be absolute fact yet but the evidence that points to it being valid is pretty much universally accepted.

To emphasize, it's not that we all share the same DNA. As a comparison, it's like how while there may be many forms of coding a computer, it all still goes back to 0's and 1's.

The comparison is very rough, mind, since it relies on a man made form of coding and doesn't account for natural selection, but it works.

What? There's is DNA in humans and those common ancestors. It has been proven that the commom ancestor exists, don't act like those skeletons aren't there. Honestly if you believe that, then you must not believe in dinosaurs...

Bones? Like the hell? How can you say "I've never heard of this bull**** homo-whatever mammal?" Homo literally means human. They dont make up the "homo-" in these names without reasons.

Also the actual name is homo-pan btw
