    Humanism-
A rationalist outlook or system of thought attaching prime importance to human rather than divine or supernatural.
Okay. what if that divine force never existed in the first place? What's wrong with trying to be rational and advance the human race for a better lifestyle? Have you forgot that science and mathematics have saved many lives in history due to human advancements? The industrial revolution? The age of reason? It's also the reason why we don't die before 30?

cuz "so many people in the world" are dumb

also, satanism isn't all about believing satan is your [god]. its mostly about believing that "god" is "evil"

    yes.
i jack off and cause an earthquake in africa.
    god damnit, silly edin...
i popped a little chubby looking at that girl across the street who is married. darn, sorry india, here comes a monsoon.
yeah, the reason life seems like a blessing at times is because we have all the disasters to compare it to.

think about this: life is a single day. all of life consists of one 24 hour period. say, it was raining that entire day, you would believe that the world was always like that before life ceases to exist.

let's give it a week now: life is now 7 days long. you'll get some rain, some sunshine, some cloudy days, whatever. you now have something to compare everything else to; therefore, you can compare the sunny day to the rainy day. the sunny day felt better than the rainy day (although i'm a pluviophile lol). you understand life isn't always consistent then.

now, say life is how it is now. year 2017 ad. you have stuff to compare the days to. relative to the times of war, times of peace seem great.

i guess what i'm trying to say is that our "good days" would just be normal "days" if we didn't have a "bad day" every once in a while. the idea of yin and yang. balance between life.

Nothing wrong with it, if there is no God, but since there is a God, humans are giving themselves too much credit. Humanism appears to be nothing more than collective narcissism.
As Satan would want. People often consider good to be evil and evil to be good.

You wouldn't believe me. It's just everything happening for no reason doesn't make sense. Anyway, there's never going to be direct evidence of God. It seems you guys don't want anything less, unless you guys are truly seeking God's existence.

Of course we want proof of something before we devote our entire life to it. We're people of logic.

No, it actually kind of makes sense. Besides cracking someone's head open, you do need a special way to see the brain. So, you need a special way to see God, faith. It's sad people like you can't understand faith, and you probably never will.
I don't need evidence to believe in God. It pleases Him that I can believe in Him without an Earthly reason.

There are more or less reassurances that make me feel confident in standing up for God.

    - Jesus historically existed.
    - Christianity is the largest religion in the world.
    - Christianity certainly would not be as big as it is if Jesus didn't rise from the dead. It gave the people confidence to go to all nations and make disciples of Christ.
    - There is no other God like mine. I don't recall of any other gods that became human and, in the end, suffered a painful death so that humanity could easily achieve eternal life and live with the god in their domain.

"Besides cracking someone's head open" well right there the guys argument fails. Horrible example. We've seen human brains

The student is implying that we're using faith similarly to bieleve in human brains. Obviously false, I bieleve them because I've seen them.

Credit for what? We are the product of a random accident, to our knowledge, how is that narcissism?

Isn't it narcissistic to think that we're the only beings in the universe, that God made us specially to be above all the other animals?

It was the Church who tried to stop people from saying that the Earth went round the Sun, and not the other way around.... Couldn't handle the idea of us NOT being the centre of the universe; we are just a cosmic accident.

    - Yes I find it hard to deny there was a guy called Jesus who did preach his faith or whatever, but a lot of what the Bible says he did is completely implausible so this doesn't really help your case. It's like if I was trying to tell you that everyone in medieval France were giant lizard monsters. "Well Y'know France existed, so..."
Just because there's historical context doesn't mean crazy sht can happen.

    - So billions of people are as delusional as you? Cool. More people believing something =/= proof of it being true.

    - Two problems here: 1. That's based on a lie, he did not rise from the dead. Prove to me that he did. 2. It's the ultimate arrogance of religions such as Islam and Christianity that you think your way is the right way and you have to go round the world converting people, sometimes by force. Why is your religion right and the others are wrong?

    - You've brought this up before and it's a retarded point, one of your worst really. So your basis for believing in Christianity is that God is a nice person? Well a) he's killed millions and he's super-jealous and he demands a lot from us without really giving anything in return. b) If you judge whether or not to believe a story based on whether or not the main character or the overarching deity is a nice guy, why pick the Bible? Narnia are pretty good books and I think Aslan's a cool dude. He's certainly killed fewer people than God. Wanna convert with me?

I'm sorry for wanting EVIDENCE in order to believe something. You go through the same thought process, Gehenna, every single time someone says something to you that you can't quite believe. Only your brain shuts down when you're thinking of Christianity.

Me: Yesterday I jumped off the Empire State Building and survived without a scratch.
Gehenna (using Christian logic): Well I can't prove you didn't do that and you wrote it down on this piece of paper so it must be true. Evidence isn't really necessary. Also you're a really nice guy and I think that's important when believing in supernatural occurrences.

Any Normal Person: Um no, that's not possible. Can you prove it? Do you have film or photos or eyewitness accounts?

Credit for building a lot of stuff. You should be giving God credit more than to yourself or anybody else. He's the one who gave you your talent and skills.

Thinking you're greater than other animals isn't narcissistic. Thinking you're better than God is narcissistic.

We can be the center of the universe without physically being the center of the universe.

    1. Of course I won't find evidence outside of the Bible. You honestly think Christianity would still be as big as it is if Jesus did not rise from the dead? How did thousands of people get the confidence to go all around the world and tell the story of Jesus, including mentioning He rose from the dead.
    2. I don't see the other religions spreading their word. I never heard of Buddhist or Hindu missionaries. They seem to be keeping to themselves. I guess their gods really don't care about the world. Yes, Islam spreads its message, it often seems to be by force. Yes, Christianity use to do it by force, but not anymore. Islam hasn't really changed since its Ottoman days.
To achieve eternal life or whatever in other religions, it takes years of discipline or lifetimes of searching for the answers. In Christianity, all you have to do acknowledge you're a sinner and believe in Jesus. A simple task from a merciful God.

    a) We humans deserve whatever destruction comes our way. Remember, we are responsible for the suffering in this world. Don't say God hasn't given us anything when He has given us Himself as a sacrifice for our terrible deeds.
    b) C. S. Lewis based Aslan off of Jesus. If you want to worship Aslan, worship Jesus.

I don't believe we were created by accident.

You make it sound like the Church knew that the earth was not the center of the universe or something, and just wanted to prevent people from realizing the truth XD

And again I don't believe we were created by accident. Did you know that when trains were first invented scientists and doctors advised women not to travel by them or their uteruses' would fall out? Now we know better. By the way continuing to state that we were just a cosmic accident doesn't prove anything :stuck_out_tongue:

I think if everyone in France were giant lizard monsters we would have found very interesting skeletal remains. While many historians do believe that the man Jesus existed we are at least 40% sure that the French are humans. Also, the miracles in the Bible mean something to those who believe, you not believing in them and telling us it is a bunch of lies doesn't really change much... Or anything for that matter.

Actually, it sounds a lot more plausible to say that those billions of people are saner than you than the other way around. It's a good thing for you that America is not a Democracy or else the religious would just walk all over the non-religious.

Yes, let's believe the "hardcore Athiest" when he says with his superior knowledge and expertise on how Jesus did not rise from the dead and how we are all retarded for thinking so. Thank you for enlightening me... And eyewitness accounts go a long way. I also think it is rather arrogant of you to claim that you are superior in the sense that you can claim that Religion is trying to force their way around the world. You yourself are very forceful and sometimes rash here on the forums, and you are an Athiest. Not all Atheists push to get their way, and not all Christians try to force religion onto others. Your generalizations are dangerous and you give the non religious a worse name than they already have. You can attract more flies with honey than vinegar.

I'm just going to ignore this post because not only is it filled with tons of falsities and misconceptions, you will not be swayed with anything I would have to say. Plus, you are acting very immature.

It would just be words wasted to try and convince you otherwise. God could appear in the sky and you would call it a natural phenomenon, or some other excuse...

And you say you don't believe in miracles  Thank God for surviving, without a scratch nonetheless!

Please link me to the video that shows the Big Bang! Actually, I think I would just like some pictures. No wait! I would prefer if you showed me the interview with the person who was an eyewitness to Evolution.

Evolution is possible, and yet there are no pictures, nor are there video clips, or eyewitnesses. I will simply point out that in Jesus' time there were no cameras, there were no interviewers. What do you want XD
    Do you want his signature?

I'll ask you what I asked Gehenna, why doesn't Jesus just show himself to me if he loves me and wants me to be saved?

    Three possible reasons.
    1. It would possibly interfere with your free will, as God might be making a choice for you. "Here I am. Believe in Me."
    2. For someone as faithless as you, a sudden appearance of Jesus in front of you would make you think you're hallucinating and need psychiatric help.
    3. God doesn't need to appear in front of you in order to get you to believe in Him. You can be smarter than that and not so hardhearted.

"What makes you think that if God revealed himself to you in some direct and unambiguous way that it would remove the doubt? How many people in this world have said that God revealed himself to them and wound up in mental institutions, on medications and under the care of a psychiatrist?
If God revealed himself to you - would you accept it without doubt? Or would you perhaps "doubt" that what you experienced was "real" and "doubt" your own sanity.
Going to the other extreme the more subtle revelations - these are dismissed as being ambiguous and not "proof positive"...What's a loving God to do???"

It's tough to even begin to explain, as even I am still learning, but I will try. I think one of the reasons why it is so difficult to answer this question is because of how each person is different. I do not know you. I do not know anything about you, which makes it difficult to show you the possibilities that Jesus is already or has already shown himself to you.

Don't get me wrong I don't mean that Jesus will show himself only once to you and that's all. Believe in God, or don't believe in God, but believe that the God Christians believe in is a patient God. It is true that some people say that they have seen him or at least have seen certain heavenly apparitions. I think a way of looking at it is to see how God is not some powerful being that wants to control you, your life, etc... But He is patient. He will not force himself onto you unless He is certain you will not check yourself into a mental institution.

I can't give you a one line answer that explains everything. If that were possible then all the religious debates in the world would be resolved. I think the best advice I can give is to stand back from any sort of perspective and just be unbiased in your assessment of life. Have good things happened? Are there people in your life that have made you a better person? I can't answer those questions for you so I leave it in your hands.

I understand by posting this that I will be labeled as unrealistic or worse, but it is the advice that I have to give.

Excuse me but the question wasn't addressed to you, it was for the lovely @enderdragon3615.

But I am going to address your second point because I think it was completely inappropriate. Don't pretend to know me, or how I would react. I think I have a good judgement of reality and would know if I'm hallucinating or not. I found this to be rude.

Sorry, but are you sure? Even I would be skeptical if Jesus appeared in front of me. Schizophrenia can appear at any age.

I appreciate your response, and I also appreciate how you didn't make many assumptions about myself.

I'll say that I have bieleved in God in the past became an atheist, started bieleving again and am now a firm athiest for the second time. So I would think that I've been pretty open to anything throughout my life and would be a good candidate for a sign from above if it did exist.

It doesn't have to be him physically showing himself to me, it could just be a really obvious sign.
