Budget: About $3500, can go higher if you want

Using it primarily for gaming, ideally 4K, VR .etc. Probably won't be getting it for another 6 months so if there's something which isn't available yet, lmk

is this your pure pc budget or is some money going to be set aside for the monitors/vr gear?

also do you have a certain color combo/theme in mind? And do you value aesthetics over performance?

Are there any special programs you are going to be using? Since there is hardware for specific workloads unless you just plan to game.

    Didn't see that, my bad.

Should the PC be built purely for performance or should it also have full on RGB everywhere and a crazy case?

Just for performance, I don't really care how it looks like :stuck_out_tongue:

tbh if you can wait a little longer than 6 months.
Amd and intel just started a mud fight. ryzen vs I9...
Amd and invidia's mud fight is going to start next year when Na vi will be released.
The new technology that amd has shown with ryzen is going to throw the market around completely with the threadripper even needing a special motherboard.
The Intel i9 are overpriced and the really high ones only work with intel ssds.
Like I already said above amdand invidia are not going at it rn because the infinity fabric used on the new ryzen cpus doesn't seem to be ready for graphic cards.
but since both amd and invidia are working on a infinity fabric graphics card I am guessing that they are going to be as "market shattering" as the ryzen cpus... in other words +40% performance half the price.
Also we don't know if those new cards will need a new slot on the motherboard ( I am guessing that won't be the case but since threadripper also already needs its own slot... maybe who knows?) so if you buy one now you might not be able to use it to upgrade at all.
SSD's and HDD's can always be brought since nothing new is happening there... sadly.

There will always be the one upcoming innovations that could possibly change everything, but you can not wait forever. Before Ryzen was released, everyone assumed it would change the market upon release. But the prices for Intel CPUs didn't drop much and even though Ryzen offers great performace for the price, the technology isn't ground breaking.

Also, threadripper needing its own socket (and thus motherboard) isn't that unusual: Ryzen has its own socket (AM4) with special motherboards, Skylake and Kabylake share a socket (LGA1151). Every one or two generations all CPUs get a new socket.

Right now might not be the best time to build a PC because of unusually high GPU and RAM prices, but I wouldn't delay building a PC because of upcoming tech that could eventually boost performance.

The prices didn't drop because they announced the new x-lineup... and it's release was partly forced by Ryzen. Looking at what those cpus cost there are indeed very big price cuts compared to older models.

The technology was there before it simply wasn't ready for the market. Now it is and it actually already changed the market.
Before the technology: Only 4 cores only the clock speed increases.
    After the technology: Cores matter!

    It's not could it's will.
Both invidia and amd know that the new technology will be the "next big thing" that's why invidia jumped the train just after a few months of research.

The performance boost is already here - https://www.extremetech.com/gaming/...update-substantially-boosts-ryzen-performance
Keep in mind this is only a semi-optimized game but the boost is there.

I would delay building a freaking 3500$ pc. We are not just talking about lower prices but a performance boost of possibly 40+%. In other words another 2 maybe 3 years of not having to buy another pc.

If we would be talking about a 80$ build yeah go ahead but not 3500$ that's simply too much wasted money.

I'm fine with waiting if something really good is being released - I'd rather wait a year or two than waste this much.

Ok. For my GPU (I have Oculus RIFT) I have a GeForce GTX 1080Ti, intel core i7 4790K @ 4.4GhZ, EIZO FG2421 240Hz monitor, ASUS ROG MAXIMUS Z97 Motherboard, 32 GB DDR4 2133MHz RAM, Asetek Liquid cooling CPU cooler, Razer blackwidow chroma Deus Ex Version, Razer Deathadder 2016 chroma, CS:GO Globe mousepad signed by, shox, kennyS, Stewie2k, NBK-, SmithZz, Xist, Kioshima, XIZT, and shroud.

4K? Ehh, I had a 4k monitor I'm not using so if you wanna buy it from me that might work. I just need to ask my parents since they bought it for me.

i9 wont be needed unless you are running programs that use a **** ton of your CPU cores. I hear it's 18 cores. An 8 core CPU would be fine. I wouldn;t spent 1/3 of my spendings on my CPU, but have an amazing GPU with a nice good enough CPU.

    https://pcpartpicker.com/user/sathom/saved/HcLhMp

look into the case i put in the partpicker list and see if it fits your needs then choose fans accordingly

consider waiting for threadripper and vega, though

this ***** building a 3.5k pc, he doesnt need to worry about gpu pricing at that range

If he wants to get the best out of his money, he should ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

    These aren't for gaming.
