Idea Voting Incentives Need to Go

    This is in response to a thread a few days ago on INCREASING voting incentives. Honestly, as a new player hearing that by taking 5 minutes of my time I could get upwards of 30 gold daily I was pretty blown away. This is seriously obscene, not only does this seriously hurt the idea of this server being "Hardcore PVP" but it really skews the economy.

    Our economy is based on a limiting factor, gold, which can only be obtained naturally by mining, or in exceptional cases pigmen spawners, but we can ignore that for the sake of the argument. As of right now we are literally allowing players to print money by voting with no limiting factor whatsoever besides the daily limit of voting, I'm fairly shocked that the market hasn't gone through crazy amounts of inflation and made gold completely worthless. Constantly injecting more gold into the economy is not sustainable, and allowing gold to be received as a voting incentive is a bad idea.

    By allowing MVP's and VIP's to receive more rewards from voting they are receiving a real tangible advantage over non-donaters. MVP's and VIP's are actually paying money to receive more resources than non donaters. This would be fine in most servers, but as a server attempting to uphold a image as a hardcore PVP community this is a complete contradiction to the servers goal.

    I really can't think of a single redeeming factor for voting rewards besides the server receiving the votes. If voting is really necessary maybe consider giving voters some kind of cosmetic reward. In my personal opinion, voting rewards are a detriment to the server and need to be removed immediately. I'd appreciate some others to weigh in on there thoughts.

    I disagree, maybe it is kind of ruining the "hardcore" feeling but brawl needs votes, and why do players vote? Because they get rewards ingame.

    Removing rewards will decrease the monthly months which will decrease the amount of new players coming to brawl.

    It will need a rework tho. So maybe:
    • Whitenames get 15 gold instead of 32
    • VIPs get 20 gold instead of 32
    • MVPs get 25 gold instead of 32
    • ELITEs get 30 gold instead of 32
    Also changing the prices of diamonds, enchanted books etc. to something more realistic and balanced.
    Or that we change the rewards and VIP+ receive more tokens than whitenames (simply because all ranks are overpriced and you don't get much for the amount of money you spent).

    It is true that the main idea of voting rewards is to encourage other players to vote in order to keep Brawl's popularity on the most visited Minecraft websites. However, it also helps new players to get started. It's common to see new people to ask for stuff/money/etc. And voting rewards help in a positive way. As you can see, the economy is not broken despite the facilities we have to get gold.

    Plus, rich players like @hockeyxxxxxxxkid @Eil or @lebronjames0 don't even vote because they make more gold a day compared to what they get out of voting, which takes time and might not even work (my case). Moreover, as Carno said, the cost of ranks are a little bit overpriced (compared to the features you can get from them), therefore, players should get more stuff/perks to encourage them to buy ranks.

    Wat. You said there's no limiting factor for voting and then you pointed out the limiting factor. I'm confused by how you're talking about gold as a limiting factor as well — Gold is losing value at a slightly faster rate due to voting, but it's constantly being injected into the economy either way because there's literally millions of blocks of gold ore on the map.

    I don't think that voting rewards is as a big of deal since the only thing worth getting is gold. Gold's only use is to buy stuff in the economy, so it is limited by what people are selling. It inflates the economy a bit, but the only real consequence of this is that mining gold isn't quite as valuable as it would be otherwise.

    I agree that it would be ideal for there to not be voting rewards, but I think it's a necessary evil for player count and that it's not as big of a deal as you're making it out to be.

    We're 1.8: raid will never be a true hardcore PvP server. However, I do think being able to vote for free gold is a bit much. How about just removing gold from the vote rewards altogether, there's plenty of other things you can vote for.

    Gold is probably the best option imo because its value is limited by what people are selling. The only other possible incentive I see working is voting gets you discounts on ranks/purchases.

    Yea you're right that was poorly worded. What I was trying to get it at was that the amount of the gold on the map was the limiting factor. There's only so much gold that can be found in a 12k x 12k area and it can only be mined so fast. However the rewards from voting are unlimited (granted they can only be obtained once a day). After reading a lot of these posts I suppose it's making more sense to me, if the rewards really are necessary to bringing in new players than it should stay I suppose.

    Ah I see. The map resets are often enough that there should always be gold to mine, though. I'm thinking there's been a max of 150k mined so far, and, if I calculated it correctly, there's over 18 million gold on the map.

    I absolutely agree with you, you made a very good point. Voting should be taken away or changed where it doesn't ruin the Hardcore survival feel. Anyone could make a VPN and revote every couple minutes and get rich in a couple hours long some people have already done that is on /baltop.

    I mentioned it in my first post but I feel like those aren't really applicable. They're huge and easily raidable if you're AFK. Sure they generate gold but at least they have some risk involved with keeping it operational. I get what you're saying though and those definitely influence the economy, just not as heavily as the voting rewards IMO

    Yeah it's true that someone could use a vpn and get 60g+ a day. But no one does that afaik.

    Sure, but they would be punished. We do not allow players to bypass the voting timers by using other accounts/IPs.
