Why would a doctor work hard for the same amount of money?

Why on earth would anyone ever do something out of the kindness of their heart?
Eww. I wouldn't save a stranger's life unless you paid me.
In all seriousness, people are motivated to do a better job by money. Not that a doctor will purposefully mess things up with lower pay, but she may do less/be less motivated.
Yes I said she. Women can be doctors. Geez

    Universal healthcare =/= socialized medicine.

That's exactly the problem. There is no motivation, just the thought about getting rich after an operation. I would've just done the 'agree' rating, but there is none :/

That is the only motivation. Do I work because I want to? NO. I'd sleep and play CTF all day if I didn't work. I work because I get PAID. I work more when I get paid more.

Yeah and it'll be more true should Bernie Sanders become premier of the american union.

Universal healthcare, or single payer, is socialized medicine - which is what Bernie Sanders has been advocating for in the U.S. over the past four decades.

This whole presidency thing seems like one big phony to me. The guy running the country is a complete moron, the guys (and HC) who would potentially take his place also don't seem too put up for the job. The only one I thought was decent turns out to be chaotic with healthcare. The USA is a huge country, I think it's amazing that out of 350 something million people there doesn't really seem to be ONE good, and like GOOD candidate. Get your act together USA lol (no offence to anyone here on this thread).

Who told you that? This is the lie that Republicans keep ramming down American's throats.

    1. Thousands of Americans die every year from lack of healthcare. That figure is 0 or next to 0 in most other developed countries, including my country of New Zealand.
    2. America spends more on healthcare than any other country. You could SAVE money in the long run by switching to a single-payer system.
    3. With free healthcare, it should be rationed based on need, not how big your wallet is. Yes, I had to wait 7 hours to see a doctor when I broke my finger. But that's because there were people who had much more serious problems than me who needed attention first.
    4. Nearly every developed country has free healthcare and for most of them, it's a non-issue. In my country, not even the right-wing party (National) is against free healthcare. To be against free healthcare would be considered a far-right policy. Maybe it's not the rest of us that are crazy. Maybe it's you.

    EDIT:

I just read the next page and saw that you don't think socialized medicine is universal healthcare? Well, regardless of what you think "socialized medicine" is, Bernie supports universal healthcare and it works. Also the insinuation that Bernie is some kind of a communist is laughable. You know Ted Cruz and Donald Trump et al. are the real extremists, right? Bernie isn't even that far left wing, but those guys are nutjobs. And Gary Jobnson, don't even get me started.

To everyone who says Bernie, he's way too socialist for the American system. Way too socialist in any way actually. Some of the things he's said can be compared to the likes of Pol Pot, Joseph Stalin, Adolf Hitler and Mao Zedong.

Also free healthcare isn't totally liked in all these 'developed countries'. If free healthcare should be implemented it should only cover illnesses that aren't caused by a lifestyle. Either way it shouldn't be mandatory, but a choice, where, if you'd like tax-payer financed healthcare, you shall pay an extra percentage tax that only goes to the healthcare system, and if you would not like it, you should not be paying to the healthcare system. There have to be room of private corporation (in healthcare too) in a society, for it to work properly and not end up being like the hell DDR, Soviet Russia and the current China was/is.

Wow. Bernie says things that are similar to Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot and Hitler? Those are some pretty awful people. I'm sure you have some direct evidence of these statements? Please provide.

    1. No healthcare system anywhere is totally liked but I give you a 110% guarantee that if you ask people how satisfied they are with healthcare in New Zealand vs USA, the number will be far higher in my country. Healthcare is a non-issue here. There are always things that can be done to improve systems, but we don't have raging debates over it because pretty much everyone accepts that universal healthcare is the way to go. And my country is not a very left-wing country. Our highest income tax rate is lower than the USA's.

    2. The lifestyle thing is an interesting debate but I don't think the solution to people smoking is to let them die of lung cancer, or to people overeating is let them have heart attacks.

    3. If taxation is optional, it's not really different from charity tbh... And I'm sure pretty much all rich people would just opt out, making the whole thing pointless. This is a really dumb idea.

    4. Yes, universal healthcare does not preclude private healthcare. When I was younger I had to have surgery on my ankles. I could've gotten it for free but it was a six-month wait in the public system because it wasn't really urgent at all. Instead, we used private health insurance and got it done in a month. You see how it works? People who are well off, like my family, can get quicker and in some ways better healthcare, and people who aren't so well off can still get the healthcare they need, but if it isn't urgent, there's a wait.

    5. I love it when far-right Americans try to compare Bernie and policies like free healthcare to communism. Free healthcare is a centrist common sense policy, that's why so many countries do it. We're not the extremists, you are.
Could you respond to my points though? Interested to hear what you have to say.
    thx <3

Bernie is a moderate, mainstream leftist. Comparing him or anything he's said to the likes of Stalin or Mao (both of whom were extreme left authoritarians) is just wrong

We have this thing called the Hippocratic Oath

also... doctors in single payer countries get paid pretty well. Not like they have to sacrifice a big salary and nice lifestyle for patient care & treatment (they don't). In this country, however, we have the insurance companies and the AMA which, together, extort maximum profit for themselves whilst inflicting a great deal of pain - on both the patient's health and their pocketbook

I like how the republicans do a better job making the democrats look bad then they do the job of running the country.

Exactly, he's a pretty decent candidate who definitely deserves a chance more than the guy you have now.

The healthcare might be a bit of mess, but who says Bernie will make it worse?
Bernie is NOT one of those people. He maybe quite strictly socialist, but he will NOT start wars or gas 'outsiders' or shoot his own people or any other crap.

I wish more people would realize this. They are the equivalent of a 4 year old threatening to swat and DDoS you with his mom's credit card.
