Gehenna, the way you describe God is exactly how a dictator is. "Technically he can't/doesn't STOP you from doing the bad thing, but you'll get tortured for doing it". In countries ruled by dictators, people still do illegal things, but they have to endure horrible punishments. It's the same under God, no?

Also what do you mean, Adam and Eve's descendants are in the tens of thousands? Aren't we all descended from Adam and Eve? What?

 

1. Oh my god, this again. You make it sound like there isn't something that puts bad people in Hell. No one would CHOOSE to get to Hell, there's something that takes them there, right? And whether that something is God or not, it's still God's responsibility to end that suffering because he's the one who can.

The question he was asking is why do you try to please God if you're just as worthy of heaven as someone who doesn't, yet still loves God.

We established that it is impossible to prove the existence of God, or lack thereof, 500 responses ago.

Religion is a matter of faith. That should have been obvious from the start. We can argue about whether specific things or people in the Bible really happened/existed but the bottom line is, people (me, gehenna, matt, and the other billion and a half Christians worldwide) believe in God because we believe he created us and has given us purpose.

What that purpose is and how to go about fulfilling it is what separates each denomination from the other. I believe that it is our duty to bring God's kingdom to Earth through our actions and deeds on a daily basis. Other Christians, especially the 'conservative christians', do not.

I'm not really sure why this thread exists. Atheists are going to continue mocking Gehnna and Gehenna is going to continue preaching his own version of the Gospel (we are all "monsters" and must become Christians to be saved by God, etc.). No one is going to convince anyone because religion is a matter of faith - either you accept the gospel or you don't.

It's also like how religion(s) doesn't work. They won't accept there's only one truth. Each of them thinks that it is the right one. There's only one truth. Take this for an example:

I heard my teacher saying it:

"Socrates showed a group of people a yellow colored piece of wool. He asked them what color they see it. Some answered "Ochre", some suggested it's "Mustardy". The point is that there's only one color no matter how people see it. There's only one answer, the unbiased one. It was yellow."

In the same way I compare our debates. Only one of our views is the right one. The point is which one? To me it's that there's no higher level being overlooking us.
