    In the current meta, spawn protection might as well be removed because it is flat out worthless. It doesn't last long enough to take cover if you're being shot at, and if you try to return fire, you're already being shot. The way it works right now with it being removed after shooting, instead of a flat time limit contributes directly to how easy it is to spawn camp; And spawncamping itself is a major problem here. I can't tell you how many times a bad teambalance leads to one team leaving 2-3 sentry guns in the other teams base and just basically living there and farming kills. This makes the game unplayable and usually leads to most of the lobby quitting. I don't need to remind brawl of it's low retention, but I'd like to emphasize that the current spawn protection/camping problem is a major contributor to that.

    Removing spawn protection altogether will just make the problem worse and make it even easier to spawncamp. So your idea seems very counter-intuitive. Also, it has been said that spawntrapping is a big issue on the minds of the developers and that they are working on a way to fix it. For now we will just have to deal with and be patient.

    Right @JEMineDesigns, so as I said, it might as well be removed because it is functionally doing nothing now. I'm suggesting it needs to be reworked, not proposing a solution. If I were to propose an idea, the simplest would be to bring back the legacy spawnprotection with a flat time limit. It isn't perfect, but it at least helped prevent one teaming camping inside the other team's spawn

    Forgive me I misread the post, but now that I understand your idea, I still don't think that will be much more beneficial. Players will still just wait for the timer and then shoot then the second it comes off. I guess unless it's long enough to allow the team to push the spawncampers back. This also brings up another issue that it may be almost too good to be able to kill people with spawn protection. Despite, what matters is that the admins are working on it, and hopefully when they implement it, that it will fix the problem to be much less of an issue.

    Well whatever solution they decided, maybe tag me and let me know when it's done, till then I'm taking a break from war again, it's just not fun at the moment, maybe catch you around on CTF or BR, cheers till then.

    If you tone what 19kss said down a bit, he's actually pretty right. I personally think that the system works just fine for what we can do right now, and that the problem isn't with the protection, but with the players wanting kills enough to spawnkill. You don't lose protection until you start shooting or after 5 or so seconds. 5 seconds is plenty of time to run and take cover unless you're hella laggy. Most people aren't smart enough to do that, are focusing on killing the spawnkillers, or trying to take out whatever turrets are there. Focus on running, idiots. Either way, what the hell is supposed to be done with the spawn protection? No spawn protection would be even worse, while increasing spawn protection would allow players to get to close to objectives without shooting. We can't prevent the usage of killstreaks near the spawnpoints because combat dogs, helis, etc would still kill. It would be overpowered if killstreaks didn't target near the spawnpoints, because people could sit there behind that wall. There's very little that can be done to solve this issue. I understand where you're coming from, but out of all the ways to f*ck up the game a bit more, I don't think removing spawn protection is the answer here. Could you possible give some other suggestions on how to go about this in a way that wouldn't affect something else too drastically? Additionally, the problem with the teams and matchmaking has very little to do with spawnkilling, but actually with the fact that somehow too many good players end up being on the same team. Matchmaking has its ups and downs just like any other game.

    TL;DR - Removing spawn protection is honestly a terrible idea, give us some new ideas please.

    for sentries you can, just make a range where you can place sentries, so not at spawns.

    While the occasional spawn trap happened in legacy, literally camping in an enemy spawn for longer than 10-15 seconds was barely possible much less easy. With the a strictly time based sp you could clear people out. That isn't possible anymore and as several other posts have noted, as several mods have noted, as many players have noted, spawn camping is a major issue in the new war. Now if you'll note, I only said the current type of spawn protection might as well be removed because it's useless. I wasn't saying that was the solution, so **** off with your 'greater-than-thou' attitude. Brawl and the consistent players maintaining the 'there is no solution' attitude is the problem with this whole server and why low retention continues to be mc-war's biggest downfall.

    What I meant is that it would have little effect due to the other killstreaks still having an effect around spawns, but you're right, that can be limited. I didn't completely explain what I was getting at there.

    I apologize if you feel that I was intentionally coming off as a d*ck, but I assure you that was not my intention. I said there was very little we can do, not that there is absolutely nothing we can do. However, now that you mention it, using the older system does sound a little bit better. Not sure why you didn't start off with that, and why nobody else mentioned it until now, including me. I would have completely agreed and not said anything if that was included in your original post. If we were to revert the spawn protection, a lot of the gamemode objectives would have to be rearranged, especially for domination. Regardless of a spawn protection change, I think a lot of the objectives could still be slightly tweaked for the better such as Carrier DOM, but that's an entirely different discussion. It's not that I didn't think there wasn't a solution, it's more so the fact that nothing that I could think of at the moment seemed to have very much impact, and I didn't see you suggesting any alternatives besides just blantly removing the spawn protection, which would actually make the problem worse.

    Thank you for the clarification, the tone wasn't clear from the text. I don't deny that it would require some work with certain map/gm, but it couldn't ruin games any further than the current situation. Also, I did suggest reverting the spawn protection to the old system in my second comment in the thread, but mostly I left the thread itself open ended because I'm interested in better solutions and what the devs might be thinking.
