I don't resent YOU. You are a victim of the religion. I resent the religion and what it does to you. As for this "specific order" thing... I guess I'm trying to maintain a world in which it's OK to be gay, a woman, an atheist, without religious nutters ruining it?

As for atheists being kind about religion... What do you expect? Religion is a sickness that has killed and ruined the lives of millions, not to mention the scientific progress that has been halted due to its intellectual totalitarianism. And many atheists are persecuted or shunned for their lack of belief - in a lot of places in Asia, Africa and in the South. I'm lucky that I live in a secular country and I've never had sht for being an atheist, but it's not easy for a lot of people.

If everyone thought like this then we'd still burn witches at the stake and we'd still think the earth was flat. Don't be a wimp. It's not an impossible debate, it's a very simple one - religion has caused untold suffering in the world and above all, there's no proof for it being real, so why should you believe it? I'm not a totalitarian, I won't FORCE people to have certain views, everyone has the freedom to believe what they want. But at the same time I will openly challenge views that are a) obviously massively wrong, so much so that the believer must be brainwashed or mentally retarded and b) dangerous to the freedom of others. The first is creationism - what I've debated a lot with Gehenna. I do this for his own good because I genuinely think he's been brainwashed/indoctrinated into creationism without ever being exposed to other ideas. Did you know his mother took him out of school because "God told her to"? So he never got the chance to be exposed to evolution as a concept. The second category of views are things that are racist, sexist, homophobic, you name it. Unfortunately a lot of Christianity and Islam fit into those categories. So I will challenge these views wherever I see them, for the slight hope that maybe it'll make the person think twice about them.

equality and freedom of the points you mentioned are already part of the constitution, so what are you on about?

I do get where you're coming from, but you have to keep in mind that the persecution is mutual in many cases. Yes, religion has brought much misery in this world, but since mine wasn't a part of it, I don't feel spoken to here. Lol.

You clearly don't know your history well. Do you really believe that the freedoms we all enjoy today are due some atheist apologetists? The reformation and the renaissance broke the power of the Roman catholic church. During the era of the enlightment, religious tolerance was introduced among other rights. Many of the philosophers during that era believed in God fyi (yes, many were deïstic).

And here is what I don't get about you. You have all the freedom to live a Godless lifestyle, but here you are debating on a minecraft forum. Do you really think that a comment on the internet is going to change someone's mind? Yes, many religious kids are brainwashed and that ''God told her to'' stuff is absolutely ridiculous, I agree, but you are wasting your time.

Christian beliefs just aren't fair if they were real. In the old thread we asked about how someone could be saved if they were born on a deserted island without ever being taught about Jesus and Christianity, because this poor person had not been taught about Jesus due to circumstance he would go to hell as answered by Gehenna. Is this the working of a fair and just god? I cannot answer to whether a "God" exists or not, but I'm 100% sure that that is not how it works, no matter what book says so.

Maybe you should read the entire chapter instead of coming to a conclusion from one verse.

Samaritans are the children of Jews who married non-Jewish people. That's how she's a descendant of Jacob.
I've already made it clear that Jesus did not have favoritism for certain people. "Go and make disciples of all nations."
Is their really a point to anything in the atheist mindset?

My beliefs have made me a better person. I've said before that without Jesus, I'd be a pretty horrible person. Someone that even you might resent.

Persecution and bigotry is not reserved for religious types, it is also wielded by nonbelievers. So, the chaos in the world is not a God vs no God problem. It is a human problem.

    1. Did.

    2. Says who?

    3. Jesus told them to go make disciples of all nations, Abraham was to be the father of many nations, Christ was only sent to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. And as i said before, all the people's that Paul sent letters to can be proven to have descended from Jacob.

Gehenna - if you need Jesus/God to not be a shtty person, then you're already a shtty person. Just think about that. If the only reason I don't murder is because it's illegal, then I'm already a bad person. I don't murder because it's wrong.

It's true that atheists can be the persecutors but if you look throughout history and around the world today, atheists are far more often the persecuted.

"Is there really a point to anything in atheist mindset"

this sentence tells me you haven't really listened to say we've said anything about atheism. It's not about what the POINT is. It's about the fact that it's true. I don't have to justify an "atheist mindset" because the only mindset of an atheist, is not believing in God. Atheism doesn't tell people how to live their lives, it's not a religion. That's like saying "Is there a really a point to not believing in leprechauns?" well no there's not a point, there doesn't have to be. It's just a fact that leprechauns don't exist.

    2. It's a historical thing. I don't think the Bible says anything about it.

    3. You're making it look like salvation is available to a select few. This belief has a name. It's called Calvinism, and it's a false doctrine of Christianity.
I was going to come up with something to counter this, but I realize you're absolutely right. We do need Jesus to not be garbage, because we already are garbage. Jesus is the medicine to our sin.

It's hard for me to see this. I can see persecution of atheists in Islamic countries, but here in America? Nah. Frowned upon in certain areas? Yes. Persecuted? No. Atheists have a lot of power. One guy complains about a Nativity scene, and it comes down.
Atheists are sitting comfortably in liberal/progressive cities and states across the United States. Atheists are tolerated even in most conservative areas in the U.S.
Atheists don't have to worry about persecution in most areas of the world.

I can think of some atheists who maybe would like to control people's lives. Particularly the radical environmental and scientific atheists, but the point I was making was there is no meaning to anything in pure atheism. Yes, I'm talking about nihilism again.
The kind of guys who say, "I going to live my life how I like it, and then, I'm going to die. The end. There is no afterlife. There is no big guy waiting for me in the end. There's just this one big careless universe. If you don't bother me, I might not bother you. OK?"

"we are garbage and Jesus is our medicine"

gotta love how Christianity makes you hate yourself so they can convince you that you need saving. You know why you feel like you'd be worthless/a jerk without Christianity? It's because Christianity has made you feel that way. THEY convinced you that you have a hole in your life, that needs Jesus to be filled. But I never had anyone to tell me I had a hole in my life. And I don't. I'm happy without Jesus.

Well, depends what you mean by persecution. Not legal persecution, but in the deep south you can lose clients, friends, even your job if you're publicly atheist. One girl was shunned by most of her classmates and teachers. One young kid in Indiana was suspended for saying he didn't believe in God. And by "have a lot of power", you mean "Atheists can rightfully ask that freedom of religion is enforced" then I suppose that's true. It's not about having power, it's about enforcing freedom of religion which is in the CONSTITUTION, Gehenna. To say atheists are "sitting comfortably" is kind of putting it mildly. Yes, as an atheist you probably won't have problems in a liberal city, but atheists are a heavy minority, EVERYWHERE.

With your next paragraph YOU REFUSE TO UNDERSTAND WHAT ATHEISM IS. You use the phrase "radical environmental atheists". Atheism and environmentalism have NOTHING to do with each other. You can't lump in ideologies you don't like with atheism and then try and pin it on atheism. I could call Hitler a radical fascist round-earther. It's true, Hitler believed the earth was round. But so what?? You use the phrase "pure atheism" as a synonym for nihilism. Gehenna you CANNOT keep re-defining what atheism is. I could define a Christian as someone who thinks all women should be stoned to death, but that would be incorrect. Atheism is a lack of belief in God. The adjective "pure" is useless because that is all atheism is - there are not different levels of atheism. Nihilism is a philosophy, an ideology. You would perhaps be justified in saying that much of nihilist thinking stems from atheism and we could have a legitimate debate about that, but to say atheism = nihilism is ridiculous.

    1. The Assyrians settled the northern kingdom of Israel with their own people when they took the 10(9½) northern tribes into captivity, this however does not mean the woman was not an Israelite.

    2. SIN is transgression of the law, (or gods commandments, like in the case of adam&eve), who were given the law? Israel (all 12 tribes) were given the law, it was never given to any other people... If you are not a descendant of Israel there is no law, and therefore there is no sin for them.
Also, not all "humans" (as we define the word today, including all more or less intelligent hominids) have a soul that needs to be "saved", Not all "humans" descended from Adam, the belief that somehow Noah had three sons, one Black, one Asian & one White is just pure retardation and i truly truly understand why atheists and other thinking people mock idiotic beliefs such as this. If you think non-adamic races need salvation you might as well just go out and try to save the IMmORtAl sOUls of all the little fluffy animals as well.

What can I say? There is nothing in the Bible that says the unrighteous can thrive without Jesus. Pride without Jesus is a pathway to destruction. Though, Jesus is hope for the unrighteous.
"I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." - Philippians 4:13

I live in a fairly conservative city, but I've never seen any atheist disenfranchised. I was turned away from considering a job at a restaurant because of an atheist who is the manager. Him being an atheist isn't what turned me away. I was warned that he's generally unkind and has a foul mouth.
I believe only 6% of the world population has absolutely no supernatural beliefs. That is a very small minority.

Unless you have some passion for science and/or humanism, I can't say there's much to atheism. You live, then you die, and there's nothing else. So, I'm going to stick to my guns and say nihilism and atheism go hand-in-hand.

I don't where you're getting this stuff. There is nothing in the Bible that points to this. Adam and Eve were the first two humans and the only ones during their time. They sinned and passed it down to all their children, including us.

Who knows what Noah's children looked like. They could've been all brown-skinned caucasoids. Genetic mutations happened down the line.

Animals are vastly different compared to us. They were on the Earth before we were. They never sinned. They're just victims of our sinful ways. I don't think animals have souls. They maybe just biological robots.

I'd like to start a very different but interesting concept.
How would religions (mainly creationistic) react to or explain if we found extraterrestrial life?
I am curious to know about your views.

Knaber, seriously, read the Bible before you are going to make claims on doctrine

Romans 2:14-15 King James Version (KJV)
14 For when the Gentiles, which have not the law, do by nature the things contained in the law, these, having not the law, are a law unto themselves:

15 Which shew the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts the mean while accusing or else excusing one another:wink:

1 Corinthians 15:22 King James Version (KJV)
22 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.

@Gehenna_Beam they do have a point regarding you. You are quoting from all kinds of Bible versions (since you have no clue where to find God's preserved, infallible word for us today) and your ''personal miracles'' are supposed to be evidence for christianity?

First of all, what is your infallible standard to base morality (read: right and wrong) of?

You say: ''YOU REFUSE TO UNDERSTAND WHAT ATHEISM IS'', but you also REFUSE TO UNDERSTAND what christianity is. Everytime I tried to explain you, you insist that everyone who calls himself a christian, is one.

And once again, what you said simply isn't true. Every single Western country is secular. The mainstream media always takes side against christianity. Atheists might be a minority in Biblebelt areas, but that's it. If they face persecution they can always rely on the constitution (and the mainstream media) to back them up.

ET's of some sort probs do exist, got no problems with that. Either created by god, or created by something that god created, somewhere down the line.
I'm not a "young earth creationist" even though i do believe all things were made by god at some point or another... Or they were made by something that god made, you know what i mean.

    1. Depends on how you define the word "human"

    2. The most commonly set date for the flood of noah is around 2300bc
So, supposedly, by genetic mutations, in less than 300-700 years, all the colors of humanity came about...
If genetic mutations are that common, to produce that much variation in that little time, why don't we see that happening today? South Africa was settled (settled, not colonized, there were no black people there before whites came) 365 years ago.... Why have they not mutated into black people!?

    3. oof
