In collaboration with @AnonymousGalaxy, we whipped up a quick survey just to gain a bit of feedback from the community in a more organized way. Please be honest with your responses, and the more specific you are, the more helpful it will be. This is in hopes to improve the KOTH system, so please answer seriously.

    Link to survey.

You are asked to login at the beginning to prevent spamming / troll posts. Your email will remain confidential and I will have no access to it whatsoever. I have also made it so that you can edit your responses at any time in case you change your mind about things.

Feel free to discuss any of the questions in more detail below or any specific suggestions that could solve the issues. The more info the better.

Thanks for your participation and gl to all next koth

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ok it's been a couple days now since I posted this and although only 13 people participated, there was some valuable information collected from this. I'll do a summary of it below to help give people some context on what the trends are in order to help come up with appropriate ideas / improvements.

    Results:

Context: Almost all of the results were from players on the "larger" teams. Also, ~50% of the results were from people who participate in the KOTHs nearly every time or always, while 30% never do.

The average rating of KOTHs was about a 6/10, with the most selected response being a 7/10.

For the duration of KOTHs, the majority was split between wanting them to last 30-60 mins (39%), or 60-90 mins (39%). This is roughly where are lasting now so I guess the pace of them is alright judging off of these results.

The largest issues in Koths are (in order from greatest to least):
    • Weak rewards
    • Knockback / punch being an issue
    • Arena size / design
    • Limited to powerful teams
    • Capture time too long
Having said this, I think these are all relatively easy to fix. Rewards can easily be buffed (more details below on the feedback for rewards), the knockback / punch stuff can most likely be fixed from an improved arena (which also is the following issue), being limited to powerful teams will be hard to solve, and the capture time can be fixed / reworked pretty easily.

Feedback on what the rewards should be:
    • Custom gear / tools / items / OP enchants (several votes)
    • Boosters
    • Generally more OP / Rare / Diversity in loot
    • Adding a flat amount of gold to the reward in addition to the prizes (maybe gold given to the captor only?)
    • Somehow making the gear loss less for winning (several votes), either gear guaranteed or repairing the stuff you have?
    Other comments:
    • Try to see if there is a way to bring weaker teams in? (Maybe have a KOTH kit only for the duration of the event?)
    • More communication on where the event is happening (rename KOTH platforms to the direction they are from spawn?)
    • Overall make the capturing less frustrating
    • Team allying is a huge issue
    • Show percentages of rewards / more communication other than /koth viewloot (perhaps show loot once you click on the chest?)
    • Lag is a huge issue during KOTHs
    • Koths in general are a "terrible idea" for a server of this size

So that concludes the results of the survey, thanks for all who participated - I thought this was valuable and helped to organize a lot of the recent complaints lately. If you have any discussions on how to improve these complaints / know what other servers do for success, please mention them. I would love for KOTHs to be more enjoyable for everyone and to help bring more players into raid hopefully. Hopefully this survey will help people to come up with ideas on how to improve things for next map - I'll try to think of some things later on based on what I gathered here.

I agree koth is honestly terrible for a server this size. We barely have any players. People just thrive for koth every saturday and the only people that win are the big teams. Players during the weekdays are 10-15 players tops.

So half the results are from players in the big teams, and the biggest concern is that they don't get enough rewards...Maybe this was biased?

How do you suggest we change it then considering the player count? Sufficient players are on during the weekends like you said, so isn't this good for KOTHs singularly?
How does this have anything to do with being biased? These are the richer players, they can afford to lose things. It is more of a general complaint imo that the duration of KOTHs / resources needed to do well in them is too high for such a small reward in the end. This would help everyone out, majorly poor players, if things are first balanced around bringing in weaker players into it.

This could be done if there was a KOTH booster or something that gave speed 2, fire res, and strength 2 for the duration of the event, and if a premium pvp kit was given out to those in the event. The kit is a little iffy for me since it would be giving them a set of what would have to be relatively good gear every week. If this kit could be non-repairable and making sure they use it for the event and not just banking it, then maybe it would solve things?

This part I agree with, it evens the playing field a bit, allowing more people to fairly compete. I don't think it would go very far because you would still have to have a team that pvps to compete, but it would open the event up to a few competitors .

It is biased because of course the people winning KOTH want more loot. If you took away their responses, what is the biggest complaint now? That is what I meant by biased.

Unfortunately I don't think we can really do much to give people a "team that pvps to compete". The resources are there, I don't really understand what else can be done for them. I think a lot more features could be advertised more, which could definitely help people be aware of what's going on instead of just farming in their dirt hut 500 blocks from spawn.

Doesn't everyone want more loot though? The poorer players are in more need of the prizes than the rich teams. I guess this doesn't really matter though. The prizes are rather low considering how much gear you go through during KOTHs and it really doesn't feel that good to get a couple stacks of obby or whatever in return for all that. The reward needs to feel good for people to keep participating, and maybe more people would contest the KOTH if the rewards were greater too.

That is what I am saying, they don't have teams to compete.
I agree with the second portion, if you go through so many resources for KOTH, you should make at least that much back.

Better loot helps mainly poor players. If i got gor example 2 sets p4 every koth it wouldnt make any difference for me. However a player with maybe 2 or 3 sets it then is way more rewarding.

    Koths aren't really profitable...
Last koth I didn't loose any p4, spent about 20 dia repairing and 20g on pots during fights. After winning koth with team Chaos I got obby and an op pick+loot from kills.
Overall after winning the koth I pretty much broke even, if I had of died I would have made a pretty big loss.

Imo all koth keys should give 25g 20dia and 64 xp bottles as standard and then whatever random loot would currently drop on top.
Ik koths are just a mini event but they sill should be rewarding for the amount you have to risk to win

I think that we are losing more than we are gaining when we do Koth. If I participated in Koth I’d have 4 damaged sets or Loren by the end of it. I’d have to repair all of it at the end. P4 is too easy to get on this server so Koth rewards are so hard to decide this is why I want a dam map reset.
