The Reset - Raid Map 4

    Hello Brawlers,

    As hinted in chickenputty's Summer Plans thread, there is a reset coming. We know this has been anticipated by many of you, and we hope you like what we have in store.

    ☰ What

    For the reset, the world you have PvPed in, made your bases in, tracked & raided in will be replaced by a fresh, new world, full of new possibilities. This means all bases, items, warps, teams and gold will be gone with the reset.

    You will not keep anything but your player rank! In addition to this, some big changes are coming out in the new map - See below.

    Time: 7PM UTC / 8PM BST / 12PM PDT / 3PM EDT / 9PM CEST

    ☰ What's New?

    A lot of ideas and issues have been brought up on threads, and in-game. We've been listening carefully and a lot of discussion has taken place with both staff and players to find the best solutions and changes.
    The main changes are as follows:

    The End

    • Custom End dimension - We are proud to announce there will be a custom built End this map rather than the usual Vanilla End.
    • Weekly resets - The End, and the dragon will no longer reset daily. This ties in with the End event (below) and will make the battle for the dragon and egg something you won't want to miss.
    • Weekly event - There will be an event held in the End every Sunday. Without giving too much away, it involves a dragon, and more importantly, the egg it drops.
    Spawner Changing
    • Spawners will be changeable, but not in the way they were on Survival PvP.
    • To change a spawner, you need the spawn egg, XP, and a dragon egg, which is where the End event becomes important.
    • Spawners that have been changed will drop the dragon egg if broken which can be re-used.
    • Dragon eggs will be available in the shop to purchase.
    Enchanting
    • Enchanting will become a mix of 1.7 and 1.8 style. It will still require lapis, however the levels used will be the level of the enchant (1.7 style).
    • Anvils will remain in the 1.8 style.
    • The well known 'shop glitch' where you could reset the XP cost to repair your items will be removed. In it's place there will be an NPC at spawn where you can reset the repair cost in exchange for gold.
    • The repair cost value will be displayed as a line on the lore of items in the shop, so players can see what they are buying.
    • XP bottling - You can craft XP bottles from glowstone & bottles that can store XP when clicked.
    KoTH
    • New and improved arenas
    • New score system - KoTH winning will no longer be based on time. This address the issue of KoTHs sometimes lasting 3+ hours and becoming an endurance game. Points will now be earned by the team controlling the KoTH, and the first team to reach the set amount of points, wins.
    • Limited amount of keys - Instead of giving everyone online in the team a key, a set amount of keys will be given to the winning team.
    • Planned: KoTH restrictions - To add some spice, some KoTHs will have gear restrictions around them. This means you cannot enter the KoTH area with gear above the limit. Examples: Iron only / P1 diamond max
    Misc
    • Disabled /kill inside the spawn area if you have no spawn protection
    • A new and improved /help to make it much easier to get to know the server and it's features
    • Near future: The bugs about getting into boats, being unable to hit after switching items quickly are problems we will be able to fix, thanks to the backend changes we did (here).
    • Near future: Lag fixes - Again, thanks to changes to the backend, lag frequently seen during KoTHs will be resolved.
    • Many more features, bug fixes, and future plans...

    First off, I want to let staff know that was a ton of hard work that went into this, and as always the community appreciates focusing on improving the gamemode. Thank you in advance.

    That being said, there are a few changes I disagree with. First, there was only a week of lead time, please give us a bit more heads up next time, and also give the community a bit of time to give feedback.

    Going through the changes:

    • Weekly resets - The End, and the dragon will no longer reset daily. This ties in with the End event (below) and will make the battle for the dragon and egg something you won't want to miss.
    The purpose of The End was do have the ability to go and get XP for enchanting, repairing, or mob capping. This was a pretty popular activity and everyone could engage in it if they needed to, especially if the server would reset at a randomish time. By removing that, it makes it more difficult to get XP. Also, looking at the custom End map, with the trees all over- I hope this doesn't involve killing the Ender Dragon, since most of the map features are in the way of shooting something that flies and swoops around.

    • Spawners will be changeable, but not in the way they were on Survival PvP.
    • To change a spawner, you need the spawn egg, XP, and a dragon egg, which is where the End event becomes important.
    This really hasn't been 'a thing' on this map for XP farming. I rarely found XP farms, and the ones I found would work no matter what mob was present (in other words, why bother to change the spawn type?). The only three mobs I can think of to do this are cows/food mobs, Pigmen (for gold farming), and Villagers (for villager farms). Creeper gunpowder is really cheap and isn't a thing, and everything else isn't necessary. What this does break, however, is whither spawning skeletons in the nether- someone will turn a blaze spawner into a skeleton spawner, and get an ungodly number of whither skulls. (If that is intentional, fine...)

    • The well known 'shop glitch' where you could reset the XP cost to repair your items will be removed. In it's place there will be an NPC at spawn where you can reset the repair cost in exchange for gold.
    This breaks far more than it fixes. The shop glitch was necessary because it was impossible for a buyer to tell how much experience was necessary to fix an item in the shop, and no one wants to buy a pick for 100 gold only to find out it needs 32 levels of repair cost next time. Wiping the repair cost for the buyer gave them a consistent, predictable item when they bought it. However, now its a crapshoot, and folks don't want to spend a lot of money for items that may or may not be repairable. Fixing this problem would either involve clearing the repair cost for only a different buyer (which then becomes super abusable- just get another account and you have the effect of the shop glitch), or requiring the repair cost be reset before putting it in the shop, making enchant more expensive/rarer.

    • XP bottling - You can craft XP bottles from glowstone & bottles that can store XP when clicked.
    YES- thank you- please allow these to be sellable and we're in business.
    • New score system - KoTH winning will no longer be based on time. This address the issue of KoTHs sometimes lasting 3+ hours and becoming an endurance game. Points will now be earned by the team controlling the KoTH, and the first team to reach the set amount of points, wins.

    The reason that KoTH would last 3 hours is because I would show up and buy a 3 hour speed boost. If we change it into a points game, the incentive to buy a boost goes away. Also, the fact that it lasted for 3 hours was because players wanted it to last for 3 hours- if they consistently left after 20 minutes, someone else would win. This was 3 hours of excitement, strategy, calling up your friends for support, and smashing up other teams. 3 hour KoTHs weren't bad, they were a lot of fun.

    The problem is that the reward for KoTH wasn't proportional to the effort if it dragged out for 3 hours. My proposal was to award each member of the winning team one level of XP for each minute KoTH lasted (capped at 100 levels). This means that the longer KoTH lasted, the more XP that players can get to replace their busted armor, and the bigger incentive there is to keep playing. The key system gave a random (and sometimes crappy) reward; a straight-up XP reward is fair to all players, and rewards them proportionally for their effort. Which segues into this:
    • Limited amount of keys - Instead of giving everyone online in the team a key, a set amount of keys will be given to the winning team.
    Um.... WHUT? I've never heard of giving only part of a team the reward for winning. The NFL doesn't say "Congrats for winning the Superbowl, here's the 5 rings you can split among your team..." This isn't fair, and discourages people from participating. See my above paragraph for how to resolve this- everyone who participates should get an even reward, and not depend on the randomness of the KoTH chest.

    • Planned: KoTH restrictions - To add some spice, some KoTHs will have gear restrictions around them. This means you cannot enter the KoTH area with gear above the limit. Examples: Iron only / P1 diamond max
    This removes a lot of incentive to raid or grind armor. Yeah, it sucks when that kid shows up in fully repaired P4/Unbr3 and pounds you, but that kid also either did a lot of grinding (and maybe bought boosters), or raided someone else. I get that some players want iron-only fights (I personally would love to see a KoTH where both iron and dia are restricted, and you have to choose between gold, leather, or chain), but this disincentives grinding, mining, and raiding.

    • Disabled /kill inside the spawn area if you have no spawn protection

    I don't get the logic of this one...

    • A new and improved /help to make it much easier to get to know the server and it's features
    Long overdue, also adding a 3-stacked tracker at spawn as well as a tracking tutorial would be helpful- the least understood part of this mode is tracking, and educating players on this would help make the gamemode better.

    Why only gear restrictions for koth? The problem of people bringing stupid amounts of sets will still be there but just not in koth. Those who actually want to pvp everyday don't want the fear of being jumped by someone like calledrainer (no flame actually genuine).

    Edit: will there also be no rewards system for the first weeks of the map like last time?
