New Protocol: Targeting

Hello Brawlers,

Targeting has always been an issue present on Brawl and especially on games like CTF. However, since it doesn't happen very often and every case is individual on its own, it has never been consistently punished for despite the trouble it has been causing for select players who have been targetted. So far the usual answer to this issue or players directly complaining about it was to get more proof over a longer period of time. Due to recent incidents and seemingly increased occurence of targeting, we are finally putting this protocol in place which shall combat this issue and provide clear outlines of the punishment and the process to make it easier and more efficient for everyone.

As it has been an unwritten rule before and should be logical that targeting is not okay, most of you don't have to be worried about this change.

The protocol for Targeting is as follows:

• Violation 1: Warning
• Violation 2: 1 week kick
• Violation 3: Ban (appeals for these bans will be accepted depending on the amount previous bans, lowest is 1 month)
• Violation 4: Individual punishment based on situation & player

What counts as a violation?
This is different from gamemode to gamemode. Generally, a violation is more than just being killed by the same person (or group) a few times. Targeting here means ruining somebody's game over a longer period of time, not just in one game. Also, strategic targeting is obviously still allowed. This is much focused on the harassing part. Since targeting could happen in a million different ways, it's hard to define where exactly the border is reached where a situation counts as targeting. Because of that, we carefully review every situation and evaluate the footage gathered on a case one by one and have to decide case by case to come to an appropriate measure. I encourage you to use common sense to judge whether something can be seen as targeting or not. Of course we understand that everyone interprets a situation differently, hence we will always first warn you (Violation 1) before taking any further action. The CTF match server is excluded. Raid & WarZ are excluded.

What kind of proof is needed?
As mentioned above, it is needed to evaluate footage to decide and come to a fair measure. Staff members are required to record and submit footage so it can be looked at together with other videos later. Exceptions can be made in extreme situations and when giving the first warning. If you are being targetted, please record it if you are able to or reach out to a staff member if otherwise. We also encourage you to talk to staff members directly rather than just doing /report to explain and give context to the staff member that is helping you. Screenshots of being killed x times by the same person or similar are not valid.

This new protocol will come into effect on Sunday, March 24th 2019.

We hope this protocol will help to get rid of people intentionally ruining the game for others, and make the community a better place.

Lol no, also Raid and WarZ are now excluded from this rule/protocol. Didn't think about other gamemodes too much during the process of making this, mainly had CTF in mind.
