Raid the gamemode. Raid does not mean Brawl, it tends to refer to the Hardcore PvP style gamemode, since it is a 'Raiding' based gamemode. Obby gens were in minecraft for all of mcpvp and mcteams raid, though I think they were abused a bit. I would like to see AFK obby farms disabled, and then obby gens are fine by me.

 

Piggybacking off of your point- By this logic, enchanting should be full 1.8, as with repairs. The only way your logic holds water is if you are saying that the current patch is the way the gamemode should be, since it is hardcore. Similarly, minecart chests going into blocks is a glitch, and this is one glitch that has been used in the game for various reasons many times.

My point is, just because something was once a glitch does not mean it is not a good feature for the gamemode. I would say that mining obby in the end should be replaced by redstone obby gens. The fact is, obby gens take time to build, and they need to be larger to become more efficient. So, you need to put time into making either a small, quick, inefficient gen, or a larger, time consuming, more efficient gen. Assuming you need to mine 2 dubs, and you take 30 minutes to make the generator, this increases the time per obsidian by .26 seconds. At best, this negates any haste effect you could get, and this does not account for the time to use the gen.

I do not see why you are so strictly opposed to something that is not harmful to the gamemode in any way.

 

They are wildly inefficient if you consider the iron needed, and the time filling a ton of lava buckets.

 

I think you missed the point. It isn't afk if you are filling buckets while mining, because you are limited by time away since you will use up all the lava. And if you want it to be afk for longer times, you need more buckets.

I'd expect that this will be less common with iron being more rare? Personally I don't care how people mine obsidian late map, because in early map, you won't be able to do this, because it takes too long to get the iron.

 

I disagree with a lot of things you said, but you make some good points.

Koth is not new player friendly. I believe the reason for this is that it is so possible for players to get ungodly rich, due to villagers partially along with gold farms. With these gone, it will be much easier for new players to compete.

However, there is more to it. I think it is a flawed system to reward large groups with in game items. This has been discussed in my post above.

The issue of being new-player friendly is part of the gamemode. The gamemode requires players to physically pay and get loot, so it makes more sense to favor the rich. Skill is a big factor, but if a ctf player is better than all raid players at pvp, for instance, they shouldn't be able to only play these events and win, because that makes it more like a kit server, or op factions.
