[Suggestion] Liking, disliking, other rating things on Off-topic.

You used to be able to like things in off-topic. But people spammed like me threads, so putty changed it.

 

Likes and dislikes were removed by chickenputty in Off-topic to prevent like/dislike farms, and along with that he took away all ratings for Off-topic, so no rating farms could be created. The ratings won't be coming back any time soon.

 

Were you part of the forums around the time they came out? If not, story time.
So back when the forums were new, someone (I forget who, maybe Brian :V) decided to make a like farm in off topic. People would post random things like gifs and simple messages as 'hi' (I was one who did this, but I wish those likes would be removed).
Reason they will not do this is for farming, especially with the leaderboards for most positive ratings. If they coded it so they would not count towards your total, that is absolutely fine. Until then, probably not happening.

I believe they removed the icons due to spam. Either way, users should not have likes from the off-topic section count towards their actual like amount on their profile. I like it just the way it is and don't see a huge issue without having them.

 

I got my first warning for posting spam in one of those.
