Root zombie scaling power system

    So, we all know that being the root can be frustrating as hell. But I have an idea that might make it more fun and easier to play as this difficult role.

    The system would (essentially) make the root more powerful for every consecutive time he/she dies. For example: the root is at standard power (1) but he/she dies to a raygun six seconds from leaving spawn. Now the root spawns with a "golden heart" (1.5 power). This would continue (the root dying consistently) until the deaths reach five, at this point the zombie would receive another speed boost and gain resistance one. After this the zombie would gain a single heart more per death up to ten. This is where it caps

    This is pretty overpowered at the moment so I'm going to need some ideas to tone it down. Lucky for me you guys seem to be good at that.

    Note: the effects would scale backward for every two kills the root makes, this would keep the root from becoming a god and being unkillable

    this idea... so amazing +1.

    i see it so often that the root gets spawncamped. this will DEFFINETLY help.

    A ridiculous speed, maybe. This could be unbalanced on certain maps depending on the situation, but I do like the sound of another row of hearts.

    Maybe just give root free superarmor, resistance, regen 3 and a tomahawk for first 4 kills, then take it away or after 5 deaths?

    that sounds a bit to op IMO

    i'd say maybe the following could work:

    1 death= 1 golden heart
    2 death= 2 golden heart
    3 death= 2 golden heart + resistance
    and so on with the same pattern.
    maybe when there are 5 deaths you get speed.

    Since this applies only to the root zombie I have no problem with this idea and would love seeing it in-game. If tweaked it could set up donateable root zombie pass in the future. :wink:

    Sounds good.
    At the very end, I would have the ability for the root to run through bullets. He/she will still take damage, but due to the lack of knock back it would be much easier to hit people, especially when running through a hail of minigun fire.

    This is also a good idea, at the very least making the knockback severely weakened
    Note: I thought I double posted.. Jkzoom is obviously a pro

    Well the root takes already less damage from weapons but this is even better +1

    One more thing - it should be reset with 2 kills.
    Otherwise the root zombie could be very overpowered.

    Yeah sounds decent - the root is, as stated, really annoying, I suppose scaling over time would make sense, through speed and health.

    I feel that the way the infect gamemode is right now, is fine. I mean all of these ideas listed, even in the comments, are just op.

    I really appreciate all the feedback guys, I forgot to add that the effects would scale back by one for every two kills the root got. Thanks for catching that brawler

    Great idea but a little over powered. They could kill them selves like 10 times, do /war buy grenade x5, and then to to town.

    This is why the abilities scale down per kill. Its an attempt to discourage that from happening
