Anime benefits from having the ability to be anything it really wants. It has the freedom of breaking all laws of physics and logic cartoons have whilst also having the more story driven elements many live action shows hold.

Sadly, just like American television Anime has a lot of watered down subpar series that sell off of big anime boobies or cute girls doing cute things

It's pretty hard to explain. Personally, I enjoy the visual/artistic style. It's very unique and leaves off a much more profound impression than other styles of animation. The occasional facial expressions and tropes are fun to watch. This, combined with a captivating/interesting plot, is why I watch anime. Anime also has this thing called "moe" which is an emotional/affectionate attachment towards characters. (Wikipedia article explaining everything) It's sort of like "2D syndrome". So yes, one reason we like anime is because of our waifus. You could call us shady perverts with no social lives, but that is only a superficial description. It's just hard to explain our anime addictions.

However, just because I like anime doesn't mean I watch hentai. Firstly, I'm not that perverted, and it's mostly a matter of stereotyping. Nor is hentai a generalization of anime.

That's an awfully generalized description (and the quote looks fake), but I have to admit it is true to a certain extent. However, that's not the reason I enjoy anime. Other people like Captain Mark might, but that's their preference.

Also, I don't understand how other people who watch mature TV shows such as Game of Thrones (which, I heard, has MUCH MORE nudity/gore/violence than a porno) call us perverts and screw-ups. Who are they to judge? The majority of people at my also watch The Walking Dead, which has more gore than what people consider "****ed-up anime". They include both teachers and students. I never watch overly mature content like that. In fact, the most mature movie I probably watched was Saving Private Ryan. Call me a virgin but that's just my standards.

 

Criticizing anime compared to American television and vice versa amounts to almost nothing. Anime is it's own genre of cartoons designated towards a Japanese teenage demographic. The Japanese have a much more accepting concept about sexuality (As long as it doesn't interfere with work what does it matter) compared to America. At the same time, Japanese audiences are very conservative about the violence in their anime (There are very violent anime yeah, but most of the time they are censored during broadcast and uncensored on dvd). Besides those two little differences, it's just an entirely different culture.

Judging a culture with ones own and vice versa doesn't help anything and is ethnocentric. The basics of sociology states to judge cultures within themselves rather than your own. I could continue to go onto the in depth weeabooisms of the world but I do not want to invest that much time in Chinese Cartoons.

Also, Hayao Miyazaki has stated multiple times his distaste in Otaku culture which I can see why, if anybody has seen ME!ME!ME! one can easily see why it's such a debate(Cannot link cuz 18+). "Anime was a Mistake" isn't a legit quote but is just a meme about his great distaste in the current viewing of anime because he is a very prominent figure in the artistic spectrum of anime.

I also enjoy the "outside-of-the-box" aspect to anime. It's something you just don't see on regular television. You can search from genre to genre and find the perfect anime for you. The reason why people have "addictions" with anime (watching hours upon end straight) is because they are taken into their own little realm of what they call perfection. For me, some of the anime I watch makes me wish I was there, and continuing to watch it allows that lifestyle to envelope mine, making me feel comforted. Now, don't get the wrong idea here (@Captain_Mark) but a lot of them take me to this level. That's why I watch a lot of it.

I like a lot of action/drama/romance/comedy anime. It's like the absolute PERFECT lifestyle in most cases.

Right now, I'll admit, my life sucks. I hate mostly everything about it, and for me, anime is one place I can find happiness. I find it really sad to say that my idea of happiness can mean sitting and watching anime for a few hours. But, someone shouldn't be judged for the source of their happiness. That's why I feel comfortable doing what I do. I know there's something wrong with me - my level of sadness I'm talking about, but anime must be pretty damn good if it can just give me a temporary boost of happiness. Just something about it makes me go back all the time.

Going back to my point on genres and perfect lifestyles, it's what I lack. I have a lot of "friends" in real life, but I don't have many "close" friends. My life isn't too "spicy" or dramatic so anime fills that in as well. Now finally - the love life. I have a relationship with someone and I can't go into detail, although one thing is for sure - she's not ready to be committed. It's ridiculous how serious I take that since I'm young, but a simple romance anime can fill in that empty void of a feeling in my heart.

I know I went on a little rant there, but finally I can express the reasons I love anime. Again, there are some other reasons (@Captain_Mark) but this just sums up most of it.

I would like to see an anime from the movie Kill Bill, one of the best movies I've seen tbh..

 

Honestly one of my classmates got me into it. He's a big fan of anime (mostly One Piece) and he told me to try watching Fairy Tail and SAO. I got hooked completely and managed to watch 176 episodes of Fairy Tail in 9-12 days, but I took a break afterwards just to watch SAO XDDDD. I suppose the reason I like it is because most of the plots is quite interesting than most cartoons I watched before. I get emotionally attached to the characters (which probably means a lot considering I cried a few times) and their actions throughout the series, and I am busting my a** off cause I'm waiting for the next episode of Fairy Tail to come out -_- .

I gotta admit that some of the Openings and Endings of Fairy Tail have some cool tracks xD.
