DDOS protection

I agree, I don't get ddos'd a lot but it's sad to see people go for that specific reason.

 

Though i personally don't think i've ever been d'dosed on this server i feel as if it would be a nice thing to have for those that are being d'dosed but, as a lot of it cant be stopped by the server because the d'dos isn't run through the server... you can easily get peoples ip through skype which is often used to the play the server.

 

Permban wont affect anything really. Usually ddosers/hackers have many alternative accounts + if they get IP banned they can just get a VPN And bam back onto the mcbrawl servers .

 

According to Putty, it is your job to be careful. If someone is DDosing you, then it's your own fault for telling someone you don't completely trust your Skype. Mcbrawl isn't a DDoS protection service. If you want to find out how to guarantee a 100% protection from DDoS, refer to this security guide here.

 

There is not much McBrawl can do to you to prevent you from being D DoSed. Sure they can attempt at taking care of them, but they will find a way to boot you off. D Dossing has gotten out of hand these days. :l

 

I understand your concern but may I just run over a few points real quick.

1. I don't really know what you're talking about regarding we need to get DDoS protection. All of McBrawl's servers are covered by 24 hour DDoS protection via our server host. Whenever we are hit with a large enough attack, our network admin Yinscape usually resolves the issues in a matter of minutes.
2. As stated above, McBrawl is not DDoS Protectection and advise service here to help you with all your DDoS protection related needs. We host and produce Minecraft Servers for players world-wide to play on. We manage Server to player related issues. We have very little control over player to player issues (such as DDoS).
3. It is very difficult to provide conclusive evidence of who DDoSed who. We do not use Skype conversations as a sufficient source of evidence as it is very easy to create fake accounts or inpersonate others via skype. Also, there are certain hacked clients knocking around that enable it's users to forge false messages in chat from other players. So even screenshots of what supposedly is a DDoS threat in chat are not 100% faultless peices of evidence.
4. We have given you more than enough informaiton about protecting yourself from DDoS attacks, that was created to assist our players, it was not something we were inclined to do.
5. Believe it or not, DDoS is a big thing in most minecraft communities these days. Somehow, this childish habbit has managed to work it's way in to the very culture of Multiplayer Minecraft, it is not just McBrawl that has players using DDoS software.

Apologies if i've missed anything out, I am actually on vacation at the moment so this was awfully rushed but it is a topic I hate to see brought on our forums, so I felt I had to address it one way or another.

 

The thing is that, it didn't work. A long time ago i followed all of putty's tips, but some people just don't give up. I even tried a vpn, and it didn't change anything. I'm sure puttys guide does work for most cases, but some are just so extreme that barely anything helps.

 

VPN's only mask your IP. If your IP was resolved before you activated your VPN, then it would have offered little protection.

 

What's DDoS?

 

1. Distributed Denial of Service Attack (DDoS) Definition. A denial of service (DoS) attack is a malicious attempt to make a server or a network resource unavailable to users, usually by temporarily interrupting or suspending the services of a host connected to the Internet.

 

You don't have to know someone's skype to get their IP, it happened to me a few times that the person found my skype and then my IP.

 

I suppose McBrawl are protected already.. If not Yin must be doing his job wrong.

And it's weird I have never been DDoS'ed, even though I piss half the community off.

 

If someone is Ddosing you it doesn't go trough the servers. The servers are Ddos protected anyway, also do you even know how someone ddos you ? Do search about it because this will help you understand how they do ( which is simple ) and how to protect yourself

 

Maybe because you're smart enough to not reveal your Skype or click a strange link? :V

 

Dont mess with the wrong people and dont click links or give out your skype.

DDOSING IS ILLEGAL AS STATED UNER THE COMPUTER FRAUD AND ABUSE ACT OF 1986.

Resulting penalty if you are caught by police: 10 year sentence in jail.

 

People will say they will it you off half of the time (which they never really do) cuz there 8 year old kids . Ive also heard kids say they have a bot net. Which is a lie. Half of the people that say they will ddos you wont even . 1 they dont got a booter 2 they dont wanna get caught. Ddosing is illegal and If you get caught you will get in a lot of trouble. Usually you shouldn't worry about someone saying there going to hit you off if they dont have your skype or you didnt get ip logged.
