    Then you could just display an error message to the player saying you cannot open a chest while holding a gun.

    It would be displayed only to that player, not in public chat. Also, a simple timer could be set up so that the minimum interval between errors is three seconds or so. This way it would not spam the players chat, but it would still convey the message.

    For your first part, I know, I was saying it would spam chat for the person receiving it. Your second point, ok.
