Story Mc-war: Infection Part 1

Mc-war: Infection​

Markus Zom, commander of forces at the arctic research outpost in Siberia, was hunkered down over a map of the region from inside his tent. His small band of soldiers were exhausted from the weeks brutal fighting.
“curse those mercenaries, they haven't been leaving us alone since our forces captured this base!” he muttered, tracing the perimeter of the inner facility (the only area he could fully protect now that he had lost his main body of men) with a cold finger. His trusty Barrett was slung across his shoulder, he carried two Python class pistols (custom tuned of course) at his hips, a knife on his right. The slashed and stained command uniform he was wearing seemingly all the time now was still proudly displaying his squad, the EST, on a patch attached to his left shoulder. All in all, damaged as he was, he was still functional.
“sir?” called a young soldier from behind him
“yes? I’m trying to draw a battle plan, this had better be important” Markus replied coldly, as he sometimes got when the situation had become desperate. He turned, the soldier was barely old enough to be in the military at all.
“Your forward scout has just gone dark, he was out near the main research facility. He said he saw some flashing red lights and went in without clearance”
“he what?!” Mark grabbed a clip of ammunition, loaded his weapon with a satisfying *click*, and walked quickly out into the falling snow. Three of his best men, Matthew Fan, Richard ‘coast’ Dom, and Yin Kan, were sitting in a small circle around a fire they had scraped together.
“you three, with me” Zom snapped, pulling the pythons off his belt and checking them, not breaking stride as he made his way out of the perimeter they had established. The three soldiers followed without question, but didn't hold their peace long. Coast was the first to speak, “Uh.. sir.. are you going after Brawler? (Captain James ‘Brawler’ Reim) We lost contact minutes ago, he may be back to base by now wi-”
“enough Coast” Markus said quickly, “I have a bad feeling, and you know how that usually turns out”. The three of them nodded knowingly, it was his quick thinking that had saved them on many occasions, though jkzoom owed all of them his life tenfold as well. As they neared the center the first thing that Yin noticed was the smell.
“good lord.. what is that?” He fanned his face with a free hand to get the stench out of the air
“I don't know.. but i'm finding out” Matthew said with a set jaw. He raised his model and kicked down the door to the facility. The smell went from horrendous to unbearable in seconds, almost knocking Matthew unconscious in the process. He stumbled back just in time for a horribly disfigured hand to come sweeping by his face. Mark reacted immediately, approximating the hand’s height to where the head should be, and fired one round from his python.
“Good god..” Muttered Yin, eyes wide.
“Thats a...an.. a...” sputtered Coast
“Zombie” Said Matthew finally. They all gathered around the body of what used to be Captain James, now only a pile in the snow. Markus shuddered, if something was able to get the drop on Brawler, who was one of the best in the unit, he was in serious danger.
“I want this area quarantined” he said finally, putting another bullet in his Python and slamming the door to the facility.
“I second that motion, lets get the hell out of here” Said Matthew. They all set off at a run to get to their outpost, not anticipating what was soon to come. When they began to reach the parameter, their ears were filled with the sound of gunshots and screams. Markus looked to the three he had taken, pulled his Barrett of his back, and said one thing.
"follow me"

Author’s note: Quickly, before I end this, I want to add a small disclaimer. All of the names that I used here are plays on the IGNs of the players I used, and should not be taken seriously. As well as brawlerace’s death, yes that was intentional. But I knew it would scare everyone if you were the first to go. Sorry dude. If you want me to include you in this story, please say so and I'll do my best to integrate you!

I know this, which is why he won't be using the barrett for more then a few shots.
