but do you have any idea how often people would just say Niger to get around the censor?
"American" is no where NEAR any bad word, but Nigeria and Niger actually is one letter off.

they dont have to uncensor "N*gger" they can just take the term "Niger" and "Nigeria" off the list

 

With the way our anti-curse system works, uncensoring the word 'Niger' or 'Nigeria' would allow players to go around calling people 'nigers'. We have no intent to offend anyone from Nigeria by censoring this word but we are looking at the bigger issues that could be caused if the word wasn't censored.

 

ok first off niger is different from the word ni gger two different words two different meanings.

 

I do think our community is not as mature as the McPvP community is. Because of this people will definitely go around calling people 'nigers' in order to bypass our filter of the word 'ni gger'.

 

The filter isn't perfect, which is why you can bypass certain words.

 

I strongly agree with this. There are also many other ways to bypass the filters I'm not Nigerian myself but they should be allowed to express their nationality without being censored. Every other country can, and it's not fair to Nigerians that they can't.

Of course people will go around calling others "Niger". Which is utterly ridiculous. It's pronounced NY-JER, not like the other word. It's a country. Seriously, what's wrong with uncensoring it? You guys are saying that a country is explicit because it is one letter away from becoming a derogatory/offensive term.

I promote Niger being uncensored. A country cannot and shall not be categorized as offensive because it is similar to a racist term.

To censor the word being used AS the racist term, why not mess with the filter to censor out messages similar to things like "You are a niger" and "stupid niger"? Those are just examples, we could find any other ways it could be used and censor them out. Although, messages like "Hello! I am from Niger/Nigeria OR I am Nigerian" should be left alone. Those messages are simply describing someone's ethnicity, not proclaming/calling themself/another person an offensive term.

I have one question.
How is it racist to censor the name of a country? I mean after all race and country have nothing to do with each other.
I support anti-racism, but the names of countries and religions are not a racial thing, however, it is political.
I know the brawl community very well, they will definitely try to bypass the filter.

 

Race and country have a lot to do with each other. Many nations have been formed around of the world because a nationality (race) has come together to form a political state (nationalism). This is especially true for nearly all African countries as they have been grouped together and labeled as the same during colonial times. By saying that they are a Nigerian allows them to express their ethnic heritage and be proud of who they are. But unfortunately they can not do this because that word is censored because it is close to a deragotory term. It should be uncensored
