    A house bought at the right time goes up in value over time. A brand new car depreciates. I could buy a house and a junky $500 car and be fine. I would have a roof over my head and a car.

    Exactly, though I wouldn't put all my eggs in the house basket. The market can be really tough to predict at times.
    Nobody ever needs a brand new car, ever. It's just a terrible waste of money. It loses loads of it's value as soon as it leaves the dealership. The best way to go in my opinion is an used, older, but reliable car model. You can find some really nice ones in the $3,000 range (or less depending on where you live) on Craigslist. Maybe the whole car thing would work, but I personally dislike the idea of living out of my car.

    I would recommend buying a house over a car. Homes are tax right offs, appreciate and have Evil Lairs.......Cars not so much.

    You won't get the job unless you have a place of residence. You can walk or bike to anywhere you need to go. A car is not a house.
