Disagree rating.

If they are going to be added back, there shouldn't be a neutral total. Just have them as a non-value (doesn't add to a total) rating. I think the negativity surrounding them is because a disagree counter gives the user the feeling that each disagree makes him/her more unpopular in the community.

I viewed the Hypixel forum a week ago. Neutral ratings don't add up there, but there seemed to be an argument in a thread over someone receiving a disagree rating from another member. Because, of this, I don't fully support the suggestion to re-enable them, even if it were a non-value rating. They could be given a second chance. Maybe a trial run without the neutral total? If it doesn't cause an excessive number of flame wars, keep the rating. If it doesn't work out, disable them permanently.

Agreeing needs little to no explanation as you just agree with the argument given. Disagreeing on the other hand means you do not believe their argument is valid.

When disagreeing, you explain why you don't agree and state what you believe in (At least that's what should happen).

Adding a disagree rating can make people lazy and would stunt debate. Why state your side and have people agree with you when you can just mark a tally saying you dont agree?

 

I personally would love a disagree rating, but this community will probably miss use it again. When they removed the negative ratings, people would just send disagree as a dislike or pointless rating. You may not do this but many people would.

Honestly, a rating pretty much says nothing. You can just comment and say why you disagree.

 

And that is what is wrong with this world.

 

I personally don't really mind having them, but as what @soccerstars said, the community might/ probably will miss use this again.

Also, what @Striker_Nine said, IF they were to be added back, I don't think they should be added to go with your rating stats. Just a simple way to express your opinion without commenting on a thread and not having people get offended about it.

The negative ratings should come back. However, to be able to give the rating, it is mandatory to reply. You may think that people would just spam, but what's stopping them from spamming now?

This mandatory response will force them to give reasoning for the disagreement. If they cannot reply, they cannot rate it negatively. Simple.

I'm pretty sure this post is ironic since I'm sure a lot would disagree, but I think it's a good system for compromise.

I've watched this forum over time and I've seen how mis-used the negative ratings were - and like Nine said in his spoiler: regardless of the community's response, I don't think they will come back.

 

1. They were being and will be abused since there are only positive ratings.
2. You can simply reply on someone's thread/post saying that you disagree and why.
3. Because they could get abused, it can be really annoying if someone disagrees your post without any reason. With this I mean that people can also disagree posts that can't even be disagreed, if it's not an opinion..

If you disagree with someone, you can reply and explain why rather than spamming a rating on all their posts. That's how I always thought of it.

 

I wouldn't mind seeing a disagree rating personally however I can imagine that seeing negative ratings like that would increase the amount of negative comments on the thread. I personally know that if I see an agree rating on a post, I feel influenced to agree with it swell and I'm sure that a disagree influence could do the same thing. Therefore, having a dislike rating (would personally) be a big influence on how ideas are looked at etc, and might not be the best thing to include on the forums even though it would be interesting.

I also feel like that if a disagree/agree rating is posted, there should be a post by the rating player to justify why they agreed or disagreed with the post.

I don't believe it is worth re-adding. It only caused more flame and arguing than any kind of a positive thing, trust me on this - if any kind of negativity were to return, we would once again become a flaming train wreck that we once were back in '13 and '14. Simply speaking, it wouldn't be worth adding. We don't have any other neutral ratings or negative ratings, so, is there much more of a point to it?

I'd much rather keep it the way it is - if you disagree with something, explain why. What we had before the negative and neutral ratings were removed was a very pathetic and typical situation: someone rates your post with "disagree", "dislike" or "pointless", and when you would ask them why, for a solid reason, they'd throw out some of the most redundant and unneeded explanations, such as "what thread", "I didn't like it", ":V".

 

I would rather not have the forums spammed with "Lol funny!", "I agree!","Very informative!" and "I like it" posts.

The disagree rating is a different thing because you usually don't need to explain why you rated something funny or agree, but if you disagree with something you should always explain why.
