Yes, another META post. Another one of those posts that get upvoted to the front page and nothing springs from it. That’s one of the main problems of this sub, nothing is ever done. Suggestions are constantly put forth yet no significant changes have been made that have an impact. We can make META posts all we want but if nothing is done then there’s no reason in even visiting this sub. Myself (/u/Tricker12345), /u/fatasiantoby, /u/frenchfrieskl,/u/lmpin_Aint_Easy, and /u/JeremySTW and several others are going to be targeting many issues and attempt to push forward potential solutions. Some of the points we are going to be making in this post are things such as a new rotation of mods, the problems of the current sub, and how we want to fix those problems. Along with that we will be providing lots of new suggestions to improve the sub.

We'll be splitting this post into problems and then what we think should be their solutions. Feel free to comment on any issues we bring up, but please keep them serious as we want changes to happen. Non serious comments will be removed/ignored. Caution: long post incoming. Please read the entire post before commenting.

First and foremost, we believe the mods are the main and core problem of the sub. No matter how many META posts or suggestions we make, we, the community, do not have any power to enforce anything and have the need to constantly rely on the mods to make any decision or to take action which rarely happens. I don’t mean to make this a witch hunt and for everyone to start trashing the mods, but you do have to realize that the sub is going to be stuck in the same place unless there is a major revamp that changes how the sub is ran. The current mods have been absent for well over a year and are not fulfilling the needs for our growing community. Well, what can we do to assist in the transformation of the sub? As a starter you can start by messaging the mods and to make sure that this post gets their attention. There have been far too many posts just like this one that have been ignored, disappeared, and forgotten. What are you hoping to change in the ways the mods run this sub? Without a doubt there absolutely has to be a change in the way the mods handle the sub, along with the posts that come from us users. Our number one goal at the moment is to possibly have some sort of mod elections, where we can propose a few new people to become mods of the sub and then from there they can be voted on by the community. With mod elections we as a sub will be able to choose who we want moderating the sub and have a little more input on things that go on in the sub. The method we have in mind is having anonymous trusted unbiased individuals choose the candidates and from there have the community vote for who they support and have them go through rounds that way only the dedicated will run and the community.

The second thing I would like to discuss are jokes or memes. Yes, surely they’re upvoted for a reason. They’re upvoted because they can be funny. The problem with this is the amount of them. I don’t propose completely banning memes, however, controlling the amount of them is a worthwhile effort. Deleting posts from members that singularly stick around the sub to kek and don’t contribute worthwhile content would be a start. In my opinion, memes are fine as long as they’re controlled in amount and members still seek to actively contribute within the community. If a user or mod were to make a dedicated meme thread, it would clean up the front page, as well as provide users an outlet to do what they do best, meme.

The community should care more about the community as opposed to ones self in the community. We're a forum of self improvement and we should act like it. Although you may like the memes, is it really healthy for the forum? After 2 get upvoted, more and more flood in every hour. Reposted memes, unfunny memes and just plain stupid memes get posted all the time just because of one or two. So not just with memes but with a lot of other controversial topics on this subreddit. Instead of viewing it how you feel, try viewing it how it will effect the forum.

I would also like to address stickies, nothing in this sub really has a home, and by that I mean not many people use the stickied threads for their intended use. I think we should split up certain threads like the WDYWT, and remove certain stickies such as the sunday pop shop to replace them with more important stickies. It'd be nice to see how an advice thread and a showoff thread would turn out. You want new suggestions on a fit? Try the advice thread on Tuesdays and Fridays. Wanna show off your completed fit? Try the WDYWT. Along with this, since we are now allowed two stickies at once, I believe we need a "sub rules" thread that constantly stays stickied. It would help a lot with what posts should be and keep the sub a bit more ordered and under control.

Downvoting has become a weapon, we are very well aware of a few groups that brigade posts. The more someone is downvoted the more you can see the following of a lot of other people being lead to believe one has to be right since everybody thinks the other is wrong. See unidan for a further example. Remember the downvote button is to keep off topic and spam posts to the bottom. Please use this responsibly, see way too many legitimate discussion posts downvoted. Also see way too many people downvoting others because their opinion differs from their own. Although that's not new to Reddit, water is still wet. We need to do our best to not be like the rest of Reddit in that sense.

Our community is viewed as toxic by many other forums and it's not completely undeserved either. Take /r/RawDenimfor example, they're organized, they're nice to one another but still give firm tactful advice. They don't even need a weekly meta thread. They're happy wearing Raw denim, brown and helping each other out. They are an older crowd but we shouldn't use the fact that we're 14-18 to act like douchebags and morons just because it's the internet.

W2c/ID posts are a problem. Too many people refuse to use Google or the search bar and instead make another thread about “w2c distressed light wash denim”. Sidenote: It's almost always DIY. If you honestly cannot find what it is, make the thread. We believe adding a general discussion thread would be a really good addition to the sub as it will get rid of these and similar questions.

A great improvement we want to make in this sub is praising high quality posts. The kinds of things we want to see are guides for sewing, alterations, diy, aesthetics/style guides, and similar things. If these are of good enough content they could possibly be added to the sidebar, which from now on will be updated every few months with current information that will be useful not only to newcomers but to current /r/streetwear subscribers/visiters. I know a lot of cut and sew brand owners that would probably love to show us their work stations and how to do certain things. Someone like Trendyrosi is very popular on YouTube for tutorials like this, and we would love to see some similar content here and in the sidebar of the sub.

Again, these are our opinions of what should be changed on the sub to improve it. We are on a sub about clothing and things related to clothing, but as of lately it's been getting pretty far away from that, and we have been flooded with low quality posts/replies. This is our attempt to help the mods improve a few things, feel free to put up your opinions but please respect ours as well.

Oh and I'm posting from mobile so if the formatting gets ****ed I'll fix it in a few hours. Thanks fam <3
