America. Please explain to me why you pronounce the element "Aluminium" as "Aluminum".

It doesn't make sense to Brits.

I've always spelt it aluminuim, yet pronounced it aluminum... :x Why do I say it? Because... everyone says it that way where I'm from... I've never heard anyone pronounce it aluminuim... :V

The real question is why neither the US nor the UK use the metric/SI system of units. >:V

The English dialect the Americans use is comprised of harsher, harder sounds than our English cousins from Britain. It's the same reason you guys pronounce your R's with soft sounds instead of hard rrrrrr sounds. As for why we don't use the metric system..... I have no idea. It's dumb.

In America, it's usually spelled differnetly. Usually. It's not spelled "Aluminium," it's spelled, "Aluminum." There is a whole thing on this here.
