    Build Applications

We have a lot to build at brawl, and we need builders. Unfortunately, not everyone is qualified, here are some tips to help out with what you need. It may have been unclear in the past, but this thread should clear up most misconceptions.

Also, please remember to wait a month before submitting another application.

    Builds
Building ability is very important as that is the essence of your rank. Usually, the fastest way to not get accepted is having non-buildteam level builds. To get a picture of what types of builds need to be in your application, try aiming for a little bit more detail than is currently found in maps across the server. If you would like a lighter qualification, try out for creative ranks. Once you feel confident enough to build at that level, show your ability to do the following via your creative plots or minecraftbuild maps:

    • Detailing - Essentially, your builds should not be "flat" looking and have adequate depth and texture to them.
    • Block Variance - Your builds should contain a lot of different blocks. If on a small-medium size build you find the hotbar is enough to fit in all your blocks used, try expanding your choice! Be careful to make sure it looks good still.
    • Style - Be sure to show that you know multiple building styles via your application. The focus of your screenshots should not be medieval, for instance.
    • Terraforming - You should be able to make good looking terrain, either by hand or with a server plugin. Keep in mind this terrain should be somewhat detailed, and just using //brush sphere will not qualify.
    • Organics - You should be able to be really good at making things that resemble real things, such as custom trees, statues, vehicles, etc.
    • Basic to Advanced experience with common building plugins - You should have the basics of worldedit down, as it is super useful in building. Try looking at their wiki or youtube tutorials for tips.
Now that there are items listed as to what to include, here's a similar list for what not to have.
    • Copied/Tutorial Builds - This is the fastest way to get denied. Most of us have seen typical tutorials/google images, so you won't be fooling anybody. Keep in mind if you are caught doing this, you will be blacklisted from applying for three months.
    • Redstone/Command Block Creations/etc - While it has cool functions, that is not what we are looking for. There are a couple people experienced with redstone already, so we do not need any more. Feel free to mention it, but don't make that be your focus.
    • Pixel Art - Unfortunately, this will not be accepted for build apps as it is generally considered to not require much building skill.

    Activity

This is the second thing that is expected from an applicant. You should be active on either building server, and have a couple hours available to help out with build. Unlike staff applications, keep in mind that forums activity and teamspeak is not majorly considered. The best way to show you are active is to have a lot of builds on the servers, and participate in map-making. If you don't think you won't have the time, don't apply.

    Maturity
Builder is considered a staff rank, so you should expect the same maturity requirements as are expected of staff. You are trusted not to mess up crucial projects, and also act as a role model to the community. Here is a piece of the build team guidelines.

"Those that are associated with the Build Team are considered staff members and should behave as so. You are responsible for your behavior on Brawl, as well as other servers. Be sure you are always friendly while online. If you do not have something helpful or nice to say, simply do not speak. If you can't handle yourself accordingly, we will take appropriate measures to adequately discipline you.

While it is not your duty to respond to players in chat do your best to forward players to someone who can assist them. This can be as simple as telling them to use /report or to post on the forums. Ignoring them is always preferred over telling them off negatively."

Make sure you're following the above before applying, as people have been denied in the past due to immature actions.

    Summary
Being an official server builder is a big responsibility. We have low acceptance rates, which means that most people end up denied. However, if you work actively, and maintain a friendly character, chances go up for you significantly. Try to also be patient, it may take 2+ weeks for your application to be evaluated. In fact, the wait is usually a good sign since it means your application is being discussed. Don't be bogged down with this, just relax and it will be alright. You will also get feedback on your builds, so you know what to improve on.

    Good luck!

Not really a new era, the application was just via a private google doc before. However, a couple of build team related changes were rolled out over the past 2 weeks, and this is one of them.

@Doges you talk a lot about the expectations but not at all about the responsibilities or even the perks. Would you mind putting the info up, since the old thread's been unpinned?
