Make sure to learn the spray (recoil) patterns of the guns especially for the ak-47, M4A4, and the M4A4-S (Silenced). For the love of god, don't buy cases and keys for skins. You'll end up wasting money for skins that aren't worth anything.

Also, when you reach Rank 3 and can play comp games, make sure to work with your team. This is not Call of Duty, you can't go alone. Make sure to learn the call-outs for each map so people know where enemies are.

There is a youtuber called TheWarOwl who makes cs:go tutorials and videos. I highly recommend watching his videos and learning about the game.

1. Play craptons of deathmatch with the AK/M4, you'll naturally get better. You should learn these guns first, as they are the most essential. Play deathmatch until you can consistently topfrag every round (or get within 3rd place otherwise). I was on a casual server and when they asked what rank I was, and I said "I'm not ranked yet", they were shocked XD, even though I developed all of my skill just from DM.

2. Learn to headshot. It's all about crosshair placement and accuracy. Start practicing with the p250/5-7/tec-9 in DM, then if you feel proficient enough, challenge yourself by topfragging with the USP/P2000 or deagle (glock is just too ****ty). Then apply that to rifles and you can kill people literally in one or two shots.

3. Learn to flickshot. It's a natural motion where you instinctively "flick" the crosshair to a target, sort of like natural aimbot. For example, when an enemy suddenly enters your field of view, you can quickly fire at him. To do this you need to be extremely familiar with your mouse and turn on raw mouse input. This is super important when learning how to AWP. If you master this you can literally 180-turn and kill someone behind you like a badass.

4. Learn recoil. Automatic guns kick up when you go full-auto, which means you have to literally move down your crosshair to compensate. Some guns like the AK have a lot, while others like the M4-S have very little.

5. Don't run and gun with a rifle. This makes you super inaccurate. However, this is much less severe for pistols, and SMGs are still accurate at medium ranges.

6. Communicate! A mic is a must-have. You can report important stuff to your teammates on the fly such as enemy position and strategies. In almost all of my won games, my teammates were good communicators who knew what they were doing.

Also, many people recommend watching WarOwl, but if you want a very detailed and informative series, then I prefer 3kliksphilip, he's just as skilled and his videos are more in-depth.

Ok tips,
1. Always play a practice game or two before competitive, me personally, I play 2 arms race games before I go into a match.
2. Be communicative, even if your teammates aren't being. Make sure to tell them where people are.
3. Play with friends. This is not a must but always good.
4. Learn the recoils and practice shooting at people and try to get the headshots for quicker kills.
