So, in school I'm doing a debate about cheerleading.

Is it a sport or is it not?

I believe it's not, however, competitive cheerleading I believe is.

    Feel free to argue me.

Well people think playing video games professionally is a sport, and they also thinks chess is a sport. So yea, I'd say it is because they are actually active.

If there is competition, it is a sport, otherwise no.

Similarly, marching band isn't a sport until you compete with others

Yes. If gaming is a sport, gymnastics is a sport, competitive cheerleading is a sport, then normal cheerleading is a sport.

I don't think cheerleading is, but gymnastics are. Cheerleading and gymnastics seem to be the same thing, but Cheerleading isn't a sport, but gymnastics is a sport. Cheerleading is kinda weird anyway. A sport cheering for a sport would be weird ;/

Well as someone who has done marching band for almost three years now I can tell you that I certainly feels like a sport. The twelve hour a day, five days a week, for two weeks, of conditioning camp you go through before school defiantly feels like a sport. That's before the actual season of band starts, the premier competition is two weeks into the season (two weeks into school starting) in which you've been expected to memorize the entire show's music and over half it's drill.

I could go on but I think I made a pretty good argument in favor of marching band. On topic (in this off topic section), certainly I think that cheerleading is a sport. It's definitely a sub-sport of basketball/football/anything else the cheer team attends, but when they go into the cheer competitions (that get up to a national level) it's 100% a sport

(I just pulled up the definition of sport. Here it is: 'an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment.')

    Dude I know

I'm in marching band too. I did band camp too, only it was overnight for a full week so we had more than 12 hours of work per day.

I think I consider it more of an art than a sport.

When I go to work I always come back tired, but it's not a sport. How does marching band work, I don't really have this in my area

You can't call that just 'pre game entertainment'. That takes more than long hours of training for. It's not just entertainment. It's an actual thing.

Well that's why I'm asking. "pre game entertainment" doesn't imply that they don't work hard so I don't know why you're getting defensive. And yes I can call it that as all sports are just meant for 'entertainment'

I'm asking are you guys training for the pre game are is it its own thing, I don't freaking know that's why I'm asking. Is its purpose to keep people entertained in between intermissions?
