    Sup Brawlers,

    Your Evil Overlord reporting in.

    - I have a crack legal team of minions scouring the internet for everything Eula.

    - In addition, I have researched Petitions related to Minecraft Eula and I am here to present a petition that caught my eye because it is succinct, addresses revenue cycle issues, and amicable to the server and Mojang (Microsoft)

    - The content of this petition was copied over. I change one title to Let's talk Finance & revenue to make it easier to understand.

Petition Mojang to: Negotiate the Minecraft EULA terms (via Change.org)

Please sign this petition if you would like Mojang to reconsider the terms of the EULA, we are not asking them to drop it, but to make the terms more workable for both sides.

    https://www.change.org/p/mojang-negotiate-the-minecraft-eula-terms

Mojang, the creator of Minecraft", has begun enforcing their Minecraft server EULA, which states that Minecraft servers cannot sell items which provide an advantage over others.

Since the beginning of Minecraft servers 'donating' has been a must to keep servers going, it wasn't long before people discovered that large profits can be made off of these.

    - It is ridiculously easy to monetize Minecraft as it is so diverse, meaning people have been able to make a lot of money, and Mojang are eager to put an end to this to make it more fair to their players.

However, we feel that Mojang are going about enforcing "EULA" in the completely wrong way. Mojang announced their new EULA terms, which outlined the following:

    • Servers cannot sell perks on their server store which allow a 'donating' player to have an advantage over a non-'donating' player. This means no in-game currency can be sold, no items like tools can be sold, no diamonds can be sold, no power-ups can be sold, etc.
    • Instead of selling these items server owners can opt to sell "cosmetic" items. This includes particles, colored names, decorative armor/items, etc.
    Let's talk Finance and revenue.
    • Most of the income a server receives if it is not EULA complaint will be lost.
    • Servers cost thousands upon thousands to host, with advertisement, server managers, developers, dedicated server hosting, ddos protection, builds, community managers, etc.
    • It is unlikely to be possible to make all of this money from selling cosmetic-only items unless you have a playerbase the size of Hypixel's.
    • In order to stay competitive, and in order to provide something players will actually want to purchase, servers will need to increase their development costs to make brand new cosmetic ideas. Growing development costs in the face of more than half of your income disappearing is not a viable combination.
There are ways to enforce a EULA that benefits both server owners and Minecraft players at the same time, for example:
    1. Mojang could limit the amount that Minecraft servers can make per year.
    2. Mojang could limit the amount of money that any individual perk costs.
    3. Mojang could enforce policies such as anything available for purchase should also be obtainable through normal playing.
    4. Mojang could change the way perks are advertised, such as disallowing putting items in a players inventory and then asking them to donate to 'unlock' it.

I would like to call for Mojang to have a conversation with its server owners, to agree upon a EULA that allows servers to continue to run without fear of shutting down.

    @chickenputty

PS - If revenue streams are disrupted the odds of 2.0 ever occurring just got reduced by double digit percentages.

No revenue = no new games.

Here is how you can help:

    1) Sign the petition

    2) Email the petition to your friends & family for them to sign. Explain the bullet point issues in a way they can understand.

    3) Post on your social media pages (Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, etc)

    4) Continue to support "Our Server" by being positive on the forums

    5) Never give up!

I believe we have an opportunity to have our voices heard.

    Leader of the Rebellion,

    Evil

I didn't sign only because they asked for my address. Good work, though!

I think Ive heard of servers giving 45% of profits or more to Mojang, I think this would be good.

Mojang does not care about petitions.

If enough people sign a petition, companies will care. There are countless stories where companies changed their positions.

    No one likes:

    - bad press

    - media attention

    - disastified customers

Anti EULA does not have a large backing. The only people who are against the EULA enforcement are the people who play on the servers getting affected. Looking at the discussions online, people are split within their opinions, and some are even pro enforcement. Most who are unaffected simply don't care, for the most part. People tried "protesting" in the summer of 2014 when this was getting its first public announcement. Even while mostly unified (which is what happened in '14), the protests such as blackout failed to convince Mojang anything. While it would be nice to see the EULA revoked so brawl can thrive, the "protest and petition" plan doesn't sound logical in my mind.

Even though I do not really see this petition going anywhere, I am strongly disturbed by what the EULA will do to many servers and has done to some already, which (as I understand it) is bankrupt them or significantly dent their incomes. Signed.

I would encourage all to sign the petition.

Let us see how far it goes.

I would rather say I tried to save my fav server than did nothing at all and it ........died a wretched death because it couldn't make a profit.

You won't get arrested for fraud.

This is just a petition not a NSA application.
