First off, a disclaimer. Before anyone gives me the "take your ban disputes to a PM with Viva" or something like that, I already know. This thread refers to a type of report that more than one players have submitted and recieved the message "insufficient evidence." It's like asking why screenshots aren't good evidence for chat offenses, so it's a perfectly legitimate question.

Question: Why is a recording of the navigator on wild west showing a player moving at speeds clearly not possible without hacking considered insignificant evidence?

It should be taken into consideration that:
    1. This is a recording, and cannot be as easily faked as a screenshot.
    2. The navigator is coded into wild west, so unless there is a known bug that causes it to show players moving at absurdly high speeds, it should be assumed accurate.
    3. The highest attainable speed on wild west (via the donor horse) is easily ascertainable and has already been estimated to be around 16.6 blocks per second or 12 blocks per compass update.
    4. The speeds being recorded on the navigator by speed hackers are far above 16.6 blocks per second.

We don't ban off of reports like that because there's too many factors to consider when we're only seeing their speed. It's possible they could've been using a glitch, a potion (?), extremely fast horse or something similar. While it is likely they were hacking, we like to make 100% sure that this was the case.

Thank you for your response. Normally I wouldn't reply to Q & A threads other than to thank the poster, but I still feel as though there is more that needs to be said. If these are the only factors that are preventing a ban, I believe that a ban is still warranted given the present state of wild west.
Yes, this technically is possible. However, currently, there is no known glitch in wild west that allows a player to move at speeds exceeding that possible by the donor horse. Should someone who abused this glitch be recorded, it would be assumed that they were speed hacking, therefore, why should it be any different if they are not caught on camera? Additionally, should not a glitch permitting movement at otherwise impossible to achieve speeds be punishable? Regardless, the likelihood of such a glitch existing is extremely low in the first place and otherwise solid evidence should not be discarded on the miniscule chance that such a glitch might exist.
In the current server, no such potion exists that allows the user to exceed speeds attainable by the donor horse, much less speeds around 100 blocks per second, so thankfully this is not an issue.
As I said previously, the highest speed attainable on wild west only reaches a speed of about 16.6 blocks per second. The speeds tracked on the navigator far exceeds those of that, therefore, once again, this is not an issue.
In this case, there really is no "something similar." All legitimate means of speeding up travel fall short of 100 blocks per second. Any illegitimate means of doing so are either punishable (hacking) or currently unknown (glitching). As I mentioned previously, the potential for an unknown glitch is not a legitimate reason to discard solid evidence, which the navigator on wild west certainly is. A recording is not easily faked and the navigator is coded into the server. There exist no glitches that increase movement speeds to 100 blocks per second, and there is no known bug with the navigator that would display an movement speed increased to such a degree.

I understand and appreciate the need for caution when banning. However, as I have just now illustrated, a ban in these cases would not violate this need for caution. I have already taken an relatively in-depth look at the potential issues and have found that these concerns are unwarranted. I fear that should this current protocol continue, no small amount of hackers will be able to freely play on wild west. Oftentimes, hackers such as these kill before their victims can record. Should these types of reports be considered valid, it will reduce the disproportionately large number of fly/speed hackers on wild west, and greatly benefit the community. Once again, thank you for your valuable time and I hope you consider the things that I have written.
