So, there's no denying it, HG is in a pretty crappy state right now. Its rare games more than 15 players ever happen, and the 120 player games HG used to get are just memories at this point. As soon as we finally get a developer back for HG, I'm going to try to get it whatever updates HG needs.

I'm going to start discussing some of these updates with the rest of the staff soon, but for now, I just want to know what you guys dislike about the gamemode. Be brutally honest.

    1. It's pointless, you get absolutely nothing for winning. It's not worth sitting around for an hour mining ore and making soup just to lose it or win and gain nothing.
    2. It's not new player friendly. Kits are confusing, and legitimate games with 10+ people almost never happen, leaving newer players with absolutely zero experience, unless they were from the era in which HG actually had a solid player-base. Perhaps more explanation to the kits in cycle?
    3. Compared to other gamemodes, HG isn't that social. Rarely does anyone say anything in chat, and it's nearly impossible to make friends under the circumstances.
    4. Popularity wise, there are very little popular HG servers out there. Rarely do players join Brawl to play HG unless they're watching HG footage/gameplay from a year ago. They'll come along, see that nothing's happening, and leave. Compared to, say Survival Games, it nearly isn't as popular.

Currently you can get credits for winning a game which you can use to purchase more kits, should there be something else?

Let's be real, the player who gets that free iron set always wins. The games I've played are just a bunch of people getting together within the first three minutes trying to stone sword others to death.

The one thing that I really dislike about HG is that it is nearly impossible for new players to actually win. Most new players don't know how to soup, and they don't have the attention span to learn it anyway. There needs to be something in place to support new player. An alternative to soup; something familar, like have extra hearts or something. Obviously, it would need to be balanced (extra hearts+vampire kit=OP), but it's better than the current system we have.

I used to play hg regularly on mcpvp, and the thing I liked about it was that it was a lot more social. There were always skype calls going on, conversations in chat, funny moments where random people would team and then turn on each other. Games were fast-paced and there weren't many kits to choose from so it was easier to learn their advantages and disadvantages.

When it moved to brawl I tried it for a little while and it was cool I guess. The main issue I have with it now is that there isn't really a sense of a community. I believe this is partly due to the fact that not many regulars play it, but also because there isn't much hype for it. Even when people join, there's no sense of urgency, no feeling of dread when that timer counts down. It's static for the first 2 minutes as everyone scatters, and then people hunt you down with your compass. Honestly, I think taking away the compass would be a cool idea, but that's just my opinion.

That's all I can think of right now that isn't what other people said.

Brawl needs to advertise HG on youtube, just pay a big youtuber to play on brawl. That's my personal opinion btw.

I keep seeing this 'pay a big youtuber' 'pay youtuber to play on brawl' type of thing but here's the damn problem most seem to forget.
Brawl currently isn't in a fun state. If a Youtuber were to play on it, would he or she find any joy in doing so? Think about it. Right now the state of Brawl is iffy if that's a way to put it. Player count isn't too high for it to be entertaining, servers can sometimes often be empty, community is ehh. But wait, isn't that the point in advertising though? Doesn't seem worth using the money for a Youtuber to advertise our server. In the future when things are fixed and more better, then it might be worth it but currently right now, nope.

Shorter easier sentence; Brawl isn't all that fun, problems happening. Party is the only fun server really that doesn't involve too much stress inducing stuff.
But that's just my nick nack opinion too. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

That thread is older. I also think that some of the changes are slightly...needed, to say the least. I think the event change didn't really take place, but I might be wrong?
But yes, @BlueGuyARed did suggest some sick changes.
I don't like the damage on HG as of right now. It's pretty high (broken) on some kits, and there are some downright idiotically strong kits as well (*cough Viking, Ninja, Kangaroo, Grappler*) that need a rework. I honestly suggest removing Viking until a suitable rework has been found.
    Oh, and:
    More players please!

Words cannot describe how much nothing that has to do with it.

HG remained relatively popular (a few hundred players online most days) up until around the time the one (and only) major YouTuber popularizing it, BadBoyHalo (he had 50,000+ subs at the time), had a falling out with McPVP and stopped making videos, the Buddokkan disaster happened (does anyone remember the 'bat p*ssy' incident? That was fun), and hclwek shut down the server. There was also the whole idiocy with the soup/nosoup and the zillion unnecessary and horrible kits (Grenadier???) that messed with the meta and p*ssed off a lot of regulars/new players. A lot of that went down in late 2014 and early 2015, right before the bankruptcy and subsequent purchase of CTF and HG by Brawl. HG has been screwed ever since.

HG, like Minecraft, is a tired concept. It was really cool back in 2012/2013 when Suzanne Collins' books came out, a fact made even more obvious by the enormous playercount on McPVP's HG (over 2,000 players daily at its peak), and the endless number of knockoffs by other servers (most of which were less successful than McPVP's version). Similarly Minecraft was "cool" (I can't believe I'm saying that either) back when it was relatively new in 2009-2010 because it had that indie game feel to it. Personally when I first played Minecraft in Beta 1.5 it felt like I was going on a little adventure into uncharted territory or whatever, which kept things interesting regardless of how mind blowingly boring singleplayer is. Same thing with HG. It doesn't have an indie feel to it anymore. The concept has been rehashed a thousand times only now there's way too many kits and it's impossible to kill someone (most of the time) if they can soup properly and you can't. I have no idea how this could be fixed. Sure based god @Totom3 has put in work into making HG Great Again but, as someone who isn't an HG junkie, when I see updates I really don't care. Why? Because 1) the servers are empty and playing with myself isn't particularly fun, 2) HG is not remotely "noob" friendly (just my personal experience there), and 3) There's no intrigue anymore. What made me want to play HG in the first place was how it combined factions and KOTH into one.

I have no idea if it's possible to get that indie/survival feeling back to HG.

My problem with it is that you can't play it casually. Games rarely take under 20 minutes (and 20 minutes in a Minecraft game is past the point where a lot of the impatient players can have fun). There are so many kits that it's overwhelming for new players. Unless you're very dedicated, HG simply isn't very fun, because it's complicated, long, and the few players who can soup really well win every time. And I can say from experience that starting at the bottom when everyone's already at the top is too hard and frustrating to bother with.
