Usually when I log on, I ask whether the Sheriff is on duty / not on duty. I don't think i'm the only one who does this, but if someone does /sheriff why can't you just check if they on duty or not instead of just asking them.

Because currently, there is no on/off duty tag so you can't determine whether a sheriff is on or off duty which means you just have to ask them.

The problem with off duty is, the sheriffs will go on duty if they see someone do something illegal even though they said they was off-duty a moment ago.

You could also set it to KOS (kill on sight) so that if you do see a illegal player you arrest them.

KOS means that your not going into rebel bases or going to rogues but if you catch someone doing something bad anyway you still arrest them.

That's not true, KOS means 'Kill On Sight' which means sheriffs can kill people on sight. The only way this is possible is by hitting a sheriff.
