    Marksman: Chapter 10: Semper Fi

    ------------------------------
    Camp Coronado, San Diego, California.
    48 hours until missile launch
    ------------------------------

Soulless opened the door to the armory of Camp Coronado.

The room was lined with guns of every shape, form, size, type, and caliber. For this mission, there was no standard issue. There was no “must use" or “preferred." It was whatever Soulless needed to get the job done.

Off one side of the wall, he grabbed a Heckler and Koch MP7. There was a laser sight and foregrip already attached, and the barrel was threaded, so Soulless added a suppressor, and left the iron night sights as they were.

He next selected a Ruger AR-556. Built on the standard AR/M4 build, it was definitely a police weapon, but it would suit Soulless' needs fine. He also added a suppressor, and the rifle had a standard Leupold scope, which worked for Soulless.

Lastly, he grabbed four flash bangs, two frag grenades, and a Glock 19, which he also added a suppressor to.

He was still in his gear since his last mission, so Soulless only had to grab ammunition. He did exactly that, and, securing the AR to his back, the MP7 to his front, and the Glock in its holster, Soulless left the room.

    ------------------------------
    24 until missile launch.
    De-Militarization Zone, Korean Boarder.
    ------------------------------

The helicopter hovered, and the air crewman slid the side door open. Soulless leaned out and jumped.

The rush of the cold night air was intense. It whipped at Soulless as he fell through the sky.

Soulless began to guide himself slowly toward the North Korean side of the DMZ. He could make out a fence.

Soulless yanked his parachute cord, and his fall was instantly slowed.

    ------------------------------
    6 hours until missile launch.
    ------------------------------

Soulless moved his eye from the scope of the AR. His neck muscles hurt from holding a prone position scoped for so long. He rolled his neck slightly, causing the cartilage to snap and pop. His neck felt looser now.

Soulless had spent 13hours hiking past all the militarized North Korean checkpoints near the missile site. No one was getting in or out easily. Once he had gotten his position in between the rocks on the shore, he had spent 3 hours familiarizing himself with guard positions and rotations. He was now ready to make his move. And soon.

    ------------------------------
    Camp Coronado, San Diego, California.
    3 hours until missile launch.
    ------------------------------

Omega Team and Random watched Soulless' helmet cam with great interest. It had barely moved for the past....however many hours. Evil looked over. 2 hours, 42 minutes until the missile launch.

“He wants to wait until they slack off." Evil muttered to Dark. Dark nodded slowly.

“Do you think he's asleep?" Dark murmured back.

“He's a professional. No way he's fallen asleep." Evil hissed. “I just wish I had been the one to go and not him."

Dark chuckled. “Snipers have more experience getting into areas they aren't supposed to be in. Plus, you're a pretty large guy. He's lean and medium."

    “Perhaps." Evil said.

    The team kept watching.

    ------------------------------
    1 hour until missile launch.
    ------------------------------

“Now." Murmured Soulless, as he pulled the trigger.

The guard dropped from the headshot. It was a 150 yard shot, and it had been made with ease. One .556 round was enough to put down anything. You just had to hit the thing you were trying to put down in the correct spot.

Soulless got up from his prone position and, scrambling to his feet, dashed for the stairs onto the platform. The missile site was like a large oil rig, but with less crude being mined and more stuff being blown to hell and back.

Soulless swept the next level and spotted another guard in his estimated position. Rotating his rifle, Soulless used the canted red dot as a sight. The guard dropped from he three rounds to the chest.

    He moved on.

    ------------------------------
    Coronado
    ------------------------------

“He's moving at a remarkable pace.“ Random commented. “I don't think I've ever seen an individual operator move even half as fast as him."

“He's one of the best." Evil said. “Plus, when your country's security is on the line, you tend to move with a purpose."

    Random chuckled. “Maybe so."

    And Soulless moved on.

    ------------------------------
    North Korean missile platform.
    30 minutes to missile launch.
    ------------------------------

Soulless stepped out of the break room and slammed the door shut behind him, swapping the magazine on his MP7. There had been four guards relaxing with booze. Soulless had made short work of them.

As he started up another flight of stairs, a guard started to come down. A burst of suppressed fire ended his trip. The guard tumbled forward down the stairs. Soulless stepped off the side to let him fall down the rest of the way, and then continued on.

    ------------------------------
    Coronado
    ------------------------------

“Brings a whole new meaning to his code name." Rock said. “He's moving like a freaking wraith."

The feed showed Soulless raise his AR-556 to take a moving headshot, and then turn to drop another guard in the hallway. Soulless didn't stop for anything and just kept going. Everything seemed robotic.

    And Soulless moved on.

    ------------------------------
    Missile platforms.
    8 minutes to missile launch.
    ------------------------------

Soulless set the tiny C4 charge on the lock, and crouched off to the side, MP7 ready. He always carried a couple sticks of C4 on him for any situation. They helped to open doors, or destroy something critical.

Soulless held out the Glock 19, shooting the C4. He was about 15 feet away, the safe distance for the amount he put on the lock. He then rushed in with his MP7, and went to work. Soon four guards and a technician lay dead on the floor, and the launch terminal lay waiting.

Soulless approached the terminal. It was covered with switches, knobs, buttons and the like, but the one that drew Soulless' eye was a red button next to a keyhole.

    The launch button.

On the other side of the terminal was a white button covered in a glass case surrounded by warning symbols. In Korean, it read ACTIVATE SELF DESTRUCT SEQUENCE.

That was the one Soulless wanted.

“Random, this is Soulless. I'm about to activate the self destruct." Soulless toned.

“Copy." Came Random's voice. “Good luck son. If you don't make it out..."

“Please, sir." Soulless voice was full of pain. “My family. They think I'm dead. Take care of them for me." Soulless had 2 minutes to hit the button.

“I will. I promise." Random said.

    “Activat-"

    Bang.

Soulless took a bullet from behind. Instantly he whipped around, Glock 19 in hand. He fired three shots in rapid succession. The Korean guard went down.

Soulless checked himself. Kevlar blocked the bullet.

A flashbang came around the corner, and Soulless turned just in time to avoid being blinded. He grabbed his MP7 off the terminal and fired a burst into the Korean soldier coming around into the room, but not before he took a bullet through the shoulder.

Soulless went down, his world one of pain. The bullet had entered his left shoulder. He could tell it had gone all the way through because of the blood leaking down his back. Soulless now had 30 seconds to press the button.

He raised the MP7 in one hand and fired the rest of his magazine at the next Korean coming through the door. It clicked empty.

Soulless' radio crackled. “Soulless, you have ten seconds! Do it now!" Random ordered.

    Nine.

Soulless tugged himself up, his MP7 clattering to the floor, magazine empty.

    Eight.

He was panting hard. His shoulder was on fire.

    Seven.

Button. Where was that damn button.

    Six.

    Where the hell was it!

    Five.

    There. Right side.

    Four.

Soulless drew his Glock 19 and raised the handle.

    Three.

He smashed the glass case over the self-destruct button.

    Two.

He threw the Glock 19 over to the side.

    One.

He slammed his fist on the button.

A flash started at the center of the missile, and it moved down it in a chain reaction. Soulless watched it hit the fuel tanks for the missile, and then the fiery explosion blew through the glass between the missile chamber and the control room.

Soulless was blown backwards. The left side of his face was on fire. He stood up again. The platform rocked, and another explosion ran through. The room was an oven now, flames licking at everything.

Soulless stood in the middle of all of it, wondering if he had already died and been sent to hell by whatever diety ruled above. He was Atheist, but that didn't mean anything wasn't possible.

A final explosion tore through the platform, and the blackness hit Soulless like a speeding truck. Sweet blackness.

    ------------------------------
    Coronado
    ------------------------------

Evil watched with horror as the feed from Soulless' camera cut out. “Cameras down."

“Satellite feed!" Random snapped at one of the comm officers.

The screen switched to an overhead view of the platform Soulless had assaulted. It was burning and collapsing now, more fire and explosions.

Random picked up his microphone. “Random to Soulless, over."

    There was nothing but static.

    Random repeated himself. More static.

Evil turned to Random. “His radio could simply be broken. Can't the South Koreans mount a search for him?" He asked desperately.

“No. Technically, we weren't there." Random said. “If anyone were to know we had an operator on Korean soil without direct permission from the government, they'd come down on us, even though we saved their asses. That's how they treat us." Random said bitterly. “As far as we know, Soulless is gone."

Evil turned back to the screen and watched the missile platform finish collapsing.

    Soulless was gone.

“You are now Omega's leader, Evil." Random said, placing a hand on Evil's shoulder. “I really wish there was something I could do, but there isn't."

Random sighed and turned to the door. “Omega is granted 72 hours leave to grieve and de-stress. Then I need you ready for your next mission." He walked forward and opened the door, exiting the control room. “Dismissed."

    End of Book 1.
    ------------------------------

    Oh. My. ****ing. God.

I'm sorry I made a short chapter and left it on a cliffhanger guys, but I wanted to end this “book" of Marksman because I have a small writing project to do which will not be released, but hey, I do have some good news...

    ...Marksman will be returning!

That's right. If you honestly enjoyed reading these, then please, put your name below so I can at least try to tag you in the first chapter when I do post it.

It's been great guys. You can make your own inferences about what will be happening from the cliffhanger at the end. I wonder what Evil will do now that he's Omega Team leader, or what their next assignment will be. Who knows, they might even meet new friends along the way.

    Thanks guys! Marksman 2 #soon.
