Hi, as you can tell by the title this thread is about teamspeak. Yes the program that looks like it was designed in 1995. That program.

Some staff apps have been denied due to low/nonexistent ts3 activity. Yet at the same time, many staff barely use ts3 and had low activity when they applied.

    kev.PNG
    winter.PNG winter2.PNG b0squet.PNG adam.PNG Tom.PNG piky.PNG *

*"My comment was mostly full of ignorance so it could be wrong" - piky

Furthermore, the huge majority of staff apps aren't denied because of ts3 activity and ts3 activity isn't even encouraged as something to work on for people who were denied, even if they had ts3. For example, all of the four times I applied I was denied for maturity/in game activity (fourth time). My ts3 activity wasn't brought up once and, while I have the software, I haven't used it in over four years. I have not seen ts3 activity brought up on almost any other staff app either, and I've read a lot of them.

If ts3 activity is as important as the reference thread says it is, why is almost no one asked about it in their app? Why are some staff allowed to log in every few days/weeks/months when people who meet all the requirements are denied for being no less inactive than people who already have the rank? And why is ts3 "not a requirement" for CTF when @Unifier was denied for low ts3 activity?

When Munson says he's going to use your response but doesn't.

For real though, noone on ctf will use ts as we all just call in our team chats on discord. It's unrealistic to expect someone applying for ctf jmod to go onto ts and sit in the ctf channel that noone will ever join.

    Tbh I don't think ts3 should be a requirement.

I mean, sure it helps if you want to be accepted quickly just so the staff know you personally and they know your maturity, but I was accepted without ts activity. Its always changing, but imo we should just have the interview via voice (doesn't matter ts3 or discord, I like discord wayyy better - its far more organized) and if you're active in voice channels great, but I don't think it should be required. I was accepted with 800 forum posts and really consistent in game activity, and with that they could judge me sufficiently.

Don't get me wrong voice is really efficient, but typing via slack, ingame, and forums is just fine. Its preference and what we want to see out of applicants imo.

TS3 is the only thing that has stopped me from applying since like 2014; I don't want to talk to some random Minecraft players (or Minecraft players in general). :v

If the TS3 requirement was removed I would instantly apply

because teamspeak is a key way for staff to communicate and is basically how the rest of the server network communicates besides mcpvp people (what do you guys even use to talk lol)

Hi I am MCPvP CTF guy hello yes hi I rep for us ok yes we Discord ahaha whats TS question mark XDXDXDXXD

No but really TS is so outdated there is absolutely no reason for that piece of **** to be a requirement for staff. TS and Skype have a big grave and anyone still using it currently guards the entrance to that graveyard with there CPU's in the grave with them.

Preach, I don't know anyone that still uses skype or TS on brawl. Literally every CTF team uses Discord and if you don't have it the majority of the time it's an instant rejection.

It's the same couple players on teamspeak every day. There have been multiple times where I've had more players in calls on my ctf team's private discord than the entire brawl ts.

My experience with a lot of war and warz players is that they'll check the sidebar on discord, see what mod is online, then pm them for help. Personally I think that's a much better system than scrolling through ts until you find a staff member.

Brawl has one of the largest ts communities, removing it would be a disaster. I would rather give out my snapchat and message people via there instead of moving to a discord permanently. Personally I think using discord atleast 10+ times a month if essential to moderator rank, and I wish it was more of a requirement. I get it if people have speech difficulties or whatever and cant really communicate too well, but there is still a text chat for each individual channel what Discord does not have.

My opinion is that Teamspeak should be more important but people can get staff nowdays with logging on to ts 3 times. If players are too scared to talk to people online fair enough but there's a big red close down button and you never have to go on there again, and the mods are helpful w/ ts issues such as DDoS, DoX ect. Its just pathetic mods who should be using ts to sort issues when its more popular compared to the brawl discord.

Personally, I just dont understand why people dont like ts. Me, @PoixMine and @OpTic_Casperr always have sticked to TS, whatever what
Eh, ts doesnt matter anymore so go for it. 1 year ago it was a larger factor, not so much anymore

Looks dont do it justice, it still works aswell as any other VOIP program if not better for moderating with the ability to customise ban times

    lol

would still like to know why ts requirements seem to be selectively enforced from one staff application to the next.

Not every server uses TeamSpeak and CTF is certainly not one of them. I've been active on every server on the network other than WarZ and Raid and have never had to use TeamSpeak for any reason other than the fact that I'm required to do so.

TeamSpeak is required for "community interaction", however I don't see the point in this. Until recently I was inactive on TeamSpeak, and had plenty of ways to interact with the community:
    • Discord; the official Discord, private Discords and private messages
    • The forums
    • In-game a ton
I'm now active on TeamSpeak and I still only really interact with the community via the same platforms. It's incredibly rare that I see users in public channels, especially users who I know as it's predominantly WarZ players who use the TeamSpeak. TeamSpeak is an irrelevant platform for most gamemodes as the majority of communication is done on Discord. Denying a CTF applicant for not being active on the TeamSpeak, an out-dated platform that no CTFers use anymore, is not a rational decision in my opinion.

Community interaction should remain as a huge requirement for staff, but I don't understand why we're required to do this community interaction over TeamSpeak. Especially as the vast majority of gamemodes don't use TeamSpeak anymore.

What I gather from this is you haven't used Discord anywhere near enough in order to adapt to some of it's differences from TeamSpeak.

    ?
    Discord.png

There's more than enough bots out there that are easy to install and can let you have custom ban times. As well as this, I've been getting along just fine without needing to tempban, and find Discord considerably easier to moderate than TeamSpeak.

Using TeamSpeak is literally a meme in the CTF community. Why should it be an important requirement for CTF staff candidates? What are they proving to us by going on the TeamSpeak and sitting in the empty CTF channel for an hour a day?

Personally, I just don't understand why people don't like Discord.

And would you look at that: I just effortlessly presented an argument against you, which is just as valid as your argument. Personal experiences are not valid arguments.

The vast majority of, if not all, CTF players use Discord and not TeamSpeak. The entire CTF teams system (a system you are required to be a part of if applying for CTF staff) is based on Discord, including the CTF reps chat which all CTF staff have to be in. Not a single CTF team is based on TeamSpeak.

As the entire thread is focused on (and provides actual proof for), TS still matters for candidates (albeit not so much staff who are already on the staff team).

Should be a requirement to have access to TS3 —where interview/meetings occur......should not need to be a requirement to be active on it prior to applying or even once the rank is acquired.

TBH I’m not a fan of discord but I get where you all are coming from.

^^^^TS isn't even hard to use, I have probably spent a majority of my day on it. xD It's also a good way to communicate with people and you can get involved in different communities and meet other people in it

I know a ton of people. You have just played CTF and dont touch outside the gamemode. Other people including War, WarZ, WW, and some Kit people use TS.

Even though I think this is the most ideal option:
TS users unlike Discord users are able to create channels that may or may not require a password on a specific TS server.

On the other hand, Discord users are able to create their own servers fairly easily.

All things considered, I think having one of the two and being active on it should be a requirement on an application. Afterall the interview is taken verbally.
