capture the flag problems

    part of the reason 1.0 died was because nobody played the objectives, whatsoever. they just sat around getting kills, not caring about it. in ctf people took the enemy flag, then held it without capping it so they could nuke/get more kills, ruining the game mode for everybody else who wants to play it

    people are still doing that, and it's quite frustrating tbh
    can y'all make that against the rules, just start kicking whoever does it

    Meh, I never played towards the objective in 1.0 because to me the main objective always was to nuke (despite what gamemode). I was the guy that took the flag to myself in CTF to make triple nuking a higher possibility.

    However, in 2.0, MVP is a statistic that is shown on the leaderboards, and (I) as a player who plays purely for statistics it is something I need to work for. Capturing the flag is one of the easiest ways of getting MVP, thus I always strive to play for the objective (whichever the gamemode may be) to aquire as many MVPs as possible. Basically what I am trying say here is that I highly suspect your description of players who keep the flag to themself unrealistic; even a player like me does not hold on to the flag anymore. I do get where you are coming from though, as I saw one player keep the flag just to get kills on highrise (or it is just a noob that does not know what to do with the flag).

    As for your idea, as I said, it is most likely a noob that keeps the flag on himself and does not deserve to be kicked just for not knowing how the game works. It could be justified to kick someone like that, if a moderator had warned them multiple times.

    Here could be some more suitable ideas:
    • Give something notable (maybe a visual effect) after capturing flag (or being MVP).
    • Give a random killstreak to the player who captured the flag.
    • Have a timer set (that is long enough for a player to effortlessly get to the team flag) that drops the flag if the player does not capture the flag. Only counting down if the enemy team does not have your team's flag.

    me revenge and fista ran into several people who held the flag and complained when we told them to capture it so
    all of them knew how to play the game too, level 20+

    Still seems a little unrealistic to kick imo (because of the noob scenario), but maybe my 3rd idea could work?

    having a noob hold it not knowing what to do and having a try hard hold it purposely to make the game last longer are two different things

    if a noob doesn't know what to do teammates can tell him what to do with it

    tryhards who hold it don't listen and just hold it till they die, making the game last forever

    I could see it happening, if it's not too harsh. Maybe some chat warnings to the player with a countdown to when the flag will be forcefully dropped, although the question is whether the flag will just be dropped where it is or returned to the team.

    With a teams system in the works, there could be a shift towards objective style gameplay.

    Maybe giving a player a buff of some sort after capping would encourage healthier gameplay.

    Agreed, the one problem about kicking people who do this is that mods @Fista_Cupz do it.
    My proposal is just to allow captures whether the flag is there or not.

    That would get rid of the "flag hoarding" thing, but I think if we were to allow people to cap even without their own flag, then games would go by too fast because it would be easier than usual to get caps. If it was easier to get captures, then caps would be considered even less valuable, and eventually would lead to a more severe case of no one capping flags. EDIT: just realized this is kind of a slippery slope, but you get the idea :v

    There are two ways to approach this:
    1. Give the player an incentive to capture the flag (other than exp & credits) such as a care package or some other killstreak
    2. Punish the flag carrier for holding the flag too long without capping it. Like CTF, we could implement a flag poison concept, or just straight up take the flag away (note: this would only apply to a player who has the flag and that team's flag is still at its base
    Of course, both of the approaches I listed could be added at the same time.

    When someone has the flag, any kills they get should not go towards their stat and should not go towards a kill streak. To still make capping worth it, buff the XP you get for capping (or attempting to) if necessary.

    You mis read, I said you hold the flag and keep the game going, that's why creating a rule against holding the flag is a problem.

    Giving higher rewards won’t work.

    What happens is that everyone goes for caps until there’s only one cap left to end the game (which is usually the case right now as well, people usually only holds the flag when there’s one cap left). I have seen this multiple times and some have even complained when I try to cap the third point. As long as there’s time left the reward will be higher from getting kills than capping one time.

    One solution could be that the flag holder’s kills would not be rechived until the flag is captured or the player dies. That should prevent flag holders, as the one doing it won’t earn anything by doing it.

    You're probably right. If Signatured can't find a way to make chat links clickable again (which they are in vanilla), then it's probably impossible for him to code this ctf kill system -.-
