Gonna be the edgy mofo to make a thread discussing this.

I think it's about ****ing time the US adds gun control. Personally I could write my points out, or you could watch Jim Jefferies explain everything I want to say in the best accent known to man kind, cheers.

Definitely don't ban guns entirely. It would be wiser to restrict automatic and semi-automatic weapons from being purchased. There's just too much damage that those weapons can cause. The mental health of the person buying the gun should also be evaluated before they are allowed to buy a gun.

Very valid solution, so far the best compromise I've heard. Though I don't agree with banning guns entirely, being more strict with how one can access guns, as well as being strict with the type of weapons that are accessible seems to be the best solution. though the mental health issue might be a little hard to control, it might be wise to have some sort of watch list for anyone who is with a counselling service and what not to restrict access that way. Soe,thing of the other idk

All guns should be banished imo (except weapons for hunting). There's no point of having guns. "Self-Defence" doesn't make sense, if you're attacked in Florida you won't be attacked by a knife, rather by a gun, and with guns, it's basically whoever that shoots first wins, and if you're attacked by a knifeman you can just stab him back - or run away.

If it were possible to ban guns in the US, they probably would. However, this pesky amendment "the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed" (second amendment) so they're definitely not going flat out ban guns.

However, the US Assault Weapons Ban of 1994, banned the purchasing and selling of semi-automatic and automatic rifles (The ones used in the vast majority of public shootings). However, this law expired in 2004, and has yet to be renewed. So, I think a good first step would be renewing this law, and then going from there.
You're right, mental health evaluations just to purchase a gun would be impractical. But, I do think you're on the right track with monitoring those who have a history of mental health issues, and restricting their access to purchasing guns.

Implement AI tech into guns which detects if someone is actually in danger and needs to use the gun for self-defence. See, this is why I should be president.

On a more realistic note: if the kind of psychopaths who'd attack innocent kids are able to pass background checks, these background checks need some serious improvement.....

yeah well theres also the amendment about not quartering soldiers...

the constitution has a lot of things in it that were relevant in 1776 but not at all applicable today (our guns cannot defend ourselves from the united states military lol) along with some things (like quartering soldiers) that is quite frankly completely irrelevant to today

people keep throwing around the constitution without realizing the RIGHT to bear arms is a RIGHT that can most definitely be taken away

Considering that you're able to order a f***ing minigun from certain shops who don't really care about the law something should probably be done xd

That's why I brought up the assault rifles ban, which was designed to solve what you brought up about the amendment being outdated, without completely restricting the right to bear arms. There's really no reason for people to own weapons like that when they are capable of killing massive amounts of people with very little effort. However that ban on assault rifles hasn't been renewed. If it were to be renewed it could seriously help lower mass shootings.

The main problem is high-capacity magazines being freely available along with easy bump stocks or just plain automatic weaponry.
I still think the current situation could be far, far worse, as callous as this sounds. Nobody has started using custom glass shotgun shells or incendiary rounds or anything.

people use guns to kill people
    therefore guns kill people
    if we ban guns
people will not have them to kill people
thus people will not use guns to kill
    because they don't have them

inb4 right wing troll says massacres will occur with baseball bats and ping pong balls - imagine 'the great ping pong ball massacre: 3 injuries and a trip to the principal's office' haha

it isn't funny. this is a matter of life and death. want to stop school shootings? remove the weapon.

guns shouldn't be given to people from the "****hole" countries
and shouldn't be given to mentally ill people.
