Gun control won't change anything. Truly bad people just have a way of getting things. It can be applicable to drugs as well. Sure, drugs are banned (except for a few states that have legalized marijuana), but that doesn't stop anything. People will always have a way of obtaining.

theres no true way to completely prevent shootings but having stricter background checks and better regulation in general will greatly decrease them

I think it's also worth mentioning that the physical security of a school is worse than the physical security than my house. I'm not supporting the "teachers should be armed" thing that Trump is pushing for, but children need to be more protected in schools. Ban guns and people will still be able to either get guns illegally, or cause harm to children in other ways.

some of its down to the "lockdown" method or whatever american schools use, they legit just hide at the back of the room, whereas in the UK its completely different, more secure etc, and guns aren't even legal here. lol.

I support arming certain faculty with periodical background checks and a better lock down emergency. You can't save everyone but you can protect as many as possible.

Ice Bear says good gun control is important people should have a firm grip on the gun otherwise the recoil will knock them back. ahem. Ice Bear doesn't think they should change gun features directly because it hurts more law abiding citizens. Ice Bear thinks that some effective gun control would be a 60 wait period along with the current background check for gun retailers and police to research the person who wants to purchase the gun testing for gun safety mental health etc. Ice Bear thinks this is a good control measure it hurts "bad guys" by making it much harder for them to purchase guns while the sane law abiding citizen wouldn't be affected besides an inconvenient waiting period a small compromise for safety. Ice Bear says that this will be hard to implement but Ice Bear is sure there is a way.

Yeah, I definitely agree that lockdown procedures need to become more... well, effective. I know this wouldn't work in small schools with lower budgets, but it would be useful if schools provided more doors that can only be opened from the inside, or to adopt a hospital lockdown procedure, where the shooter can be quarantined by remote doors to limit the free motion shooters usually have at these shootings.

Oh lock downs in the US... (funny but not really funny) lock the door, cover the window, hide away from the door. There was a teacher in my school that lost their window blocker (just black paper used to cover the little window on the door) so they just used post it notes. Security could definitely be better

"since we cannot completely stop something bad from happening we should not try to stop it from happening"

also your comparison with drugs & guns is silly. people are addicted to drugs. how many people do you know are addicted to guns?

not to mention people get high because it makes them feel good (supposedly). some people may like guns but almost nobody buys them to shoot up a school

also i was joking earlier with 'banning guns' or 'banning knives'. Gun control is not 100% the solution. There is not one thing that society/government can do that will stop someone from deciding to shoot their classmates. but i do think that it should be much harder to get a very destructive weapon. Nobody is going to kill 17 people in 6 minutes with a knife, but you can easily do it with a semi automatic

Considering how heavily armed some of the student attackers have been its a miracle more people haven't been killed. In the columbine shooting, hundreds of people would have been killed if the pipe bombs the attackers planted in the cafeteria (and elsewhere) had detonated properly

also opposed to more 'security' or armed teachers. The only armed guard at Florida school hid and did nothing while Nikolas Cruz was murdering his classmates/teachers for 6 minutes. he was a cop for 32 years, was armed and in uniform yet he did nothing. At the very least he could have drawn the shooter's attention from the students while calling for backup. He did not even do that

would like to add that the security on my campus aren't even armed and only one has any time in the police force. we have concealed carry on our campus. If someone snaps and decides to kill everyone here they could easily do it, unless someone manages to shoot them first - but I wouldn't bet money on that

imo this problem cannot be solved by throwing guards and more guns into the mix. It is a problem with society and it is not going to be fixed until we start treating people like people (rather than a resource to be exploited) and addressing threats immediately and not waiting until someone like Nikolas Cruz - who had told a friend he was planning a shooting 2 months beforehand - to actually carry it out
