Although I do agree that mods should get more recognition besides promotions, what does it matter if there were more smods? Even if it was just on their home server? It seriously does nothing but help brawl and holds very little extra liability (they don't even need to have access to IP checks or anything like that). The rank itself shows that the staff member stands out above the rest to the community, and is there as a leader like role. Raid for example, doesn't really have that right now, and hasn't for a long time. Eel simply doesn't interact as much as he should since he is so busy. Smods are someone higher to look up to than just your average mod, and can be that "supervisor" like role when players need to talk to a higher up instead. If there are more people with the rank, more will get done. Brawl needs that extra interaction and more leaders in the community, and although a lot of that stuff can be done without the promotion, it still serves a purpose as a verification or whatever. Sorry if this doesn't really make sense, I can't seem to word what I'm thinking rn, but basically I noticed a huge different between the community and myself when I got smod, as you do stand out as a leader with the role, and people usually feel more comfortable talking to higher ups, even though Im the same person just with a different tag. Brawl needs this more than ever right now, as I seriously don't think that things will be successful after the summer if significant change is made, such as this stupid philosophy for promoting staff.

Yeah.... long, ranty, unorganized post... sorry, its getting late.

As for this, it's honestly ridiculous that @Lord_Roke could say this to someone literally just trying to help out. "Not an option" is so harsh for who knows what reason. Is it really that hard to say something more polite? Or at least a "thanks for the offer"?? This is what I was referring to, the staff manager needs to be personable and easy to talk to, roke simply isn't, which unfortunately, imo, makes him bad at this role. Basically what melvin said a couple posts up ^^

Correct, there should be more ways that staff get recognition. When @Canoodle was staff manager I explicitly remember her PMing me several times saying that I'm doing a good job, and it was hugely motivating and being staff on Brawl was genuinely an enjoyable experience. Since she went inactive and resigned I haven't had this whatsoever, despite me putting in more work than ever. Staff really just don't get any recognition anymore.

But it still holds true that we don't have enough promotions. Only 4 servers have server managers, one of whom doesn't really do anything, and there are a lot of higher-up positions which do not have substitutes meaning that when a higher-up needs to go inactive or is too busy to complete their roles fully, no-one is allowed to take over.

It's also worth mentioning that not promoting someone to SMod can be a hugely demotivating. We've seen veteran staff members resign over this before - @Sn4x5 (rip - and yes, he was demoted, but he also planned on resigning anyways), @RyGuy, @_featherpaw_ and more recently, @AnonymousGalaxy. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't nearly one of them.

I agree that getting SMod doesn't really benefit you much. SMod has given me absolutely no more authority and no more access to info I need to do my job properly, but it has given me a hell of a lot more responsibility and expectations of me. However, getting promoted is a huge deal for many people and it's the best way that higher-ups can give someone the recognition they deserve.
