Now this may seem like I am ripping off PearJR_'s thread about him making the view of using the shooting range which I think is a good idea but this thread is to add to his thread a bit more so this is just a disclaimer that this wasn't meant in a malicious way at all or trying to steal other players ideas.

As you know by now pearJR_ made a thread about wanting the shooting range to make low level players get better. This is just a thread to explain an idea I have to make the shooting range better if it gets added in. My idea is that players could pay a small amount of credits to use a gun that they want to try out in the shooting range. The amount of credits spent would decide how long they get in they get in the shooting range but it shouldn't be more longer than 5 minutes. The amounts could be organised by this scheme

    1 minute: 150 credits*
    2 minutes: 250 credits*
    3 minutes: 350 credits*
    4 minutes: 450 credits*
    5 minutes: 550 credits*
    * this amount could change
As you are all aware there is around one minute in the lobby waiting area so if players don't like the certain gamemode or map they could use the shooting range to practise to to use some guns that they haven't unlocked.

    Thank you for reading
    JudeK1.

Reminder: 50% of this thread should go towards PearJr as he was the one to suggest the shooting range I just added to his idea.

So basically PearJRs idea but you can use every gun? Seems alright but this post is redundant.

Yes I wasn't stealing the idea from PearJR_ at all and didn't intend to at all, I just added the the PearJR_s idea of bringing the shooting range back by expanding and making something new with it.

I think it should only cost money to go in the shooting range if you are using a gun you don't have, not if you already have it.

    I think it is 1 minute × 5 times.

@JudeK1 said in the initial post that a player could chose to practice rather than playing the game to serve the 5 minutes. I don’t like the idea of players missing a game to play with guns in the lobby, I think as many players as possible should play the game. Give them 30 seconds - 1minute when they’re in the lobby but don’t let it interfere with game time.

It is the players choice to use it whenever they would like to. They choose if they want to miss the game to practice. They choose if they want to interfere with their game time to use it.

But if there is a server with 10 players and 2 choose to practice instead of playing that will really affect everyone else's gameplay.

You shouldn't have to pay for a demo, that's ridiculous.
Imagine if you had to pay before test driving a car at a dealership; You should be able to know full-well what you're buying, car or pixel, no charge.
Other than that gun range would be nice.

I think without paying is fine. Like people could test donor weapons for free in the shooting range back in legacy

I agree that you shouldn't pay for a demo but after you should and I'm confused on how it will affect everyone's gameplay

If there are less players in a game it makes it less fun, so people choosing to skip games to test weapons impacts everyone.

This idea sounds fun and all but just as Ben said this could really affect the gameplay. I don't know what the limit might be of how many players could actually stay in the shooting range, but if half of the players choose to stay there it will really change the game that is currently being played. And this idea sounds kind of big, so I doubt that a developer will ever work on this. When I think of this idea I also have a feeling that it could cause a lot of exploits to be found and abused. I don't exacly know what that could be but maybe players could find an exploit where they still have the gun that they tested and use them in an actual game. Or they could end up with two primary weapons. These are just a few ideas of what could happen. Exploits like these could be really hard to fix which could ultimately lead to the shooting range being removed.
I'd rather just have all the players join a game since War never really has a high player count.

So I've been thinking a bit on this idea. I've come up with some ideas for it to keep it fun and interesting. Not allof these are my ideas but this is how I think the idea would be be implemented. Open to feedback.
    • You can open a menu at the end of a game to choose which gun you want to try. You pay a small amount of credits to try guns you don't have and none to play with guns you do have.
    • You can purchase the gun for 1 intermission, 3 intermissions, 5 intermission, 10 intermissions, or 1 hour, 5 hours, 24 hours? Each costing more the longer it is.
    • You CANNOT keep trying your gun once a game starts, it puts you in the game and you can come back after and use it again after the game.
    • It makes different noises for body shots and headshots, so you can practice your aim with certain weapons.
    • There is a firing range but you can still run around the normal lobby shooting to practice on moving targets.
I also considered an infinite clip, but I'm not sure whether this is a good idea or not. Seeing as some guns such as MG4 have long reload times of around 6 seconds, it really decreases the time you have to actually shoot.

I really don't understand how this at all seems logical, to be honest. If a player doesn't want to play the round, they will more than likely just spectate or straight-up quit, still having the same effect on gameplay that you're implying. If anything, wouldn't giving them something to do during rounds that they don't want to play keep them in the lobby...? You might argue that they might intentionally choose to practice over playing the game, but how will a player that wasn't even going to be there in a first place affect the gameplay? The only difference between the practicing player and an offline/spectating player is that there's more of a chance they will hop into a game when they feel ready, and the fact that they're taking up a slot, which also doesn't matter. I also know that for extremely inexperienced players it's very off-putting joining a game just to be farmed by players like us, which will in turn make them rage-quit. Giving them an environment to attempt to close the gap will benefit them greatly. Obviously it won't compare to real gameplay with good players, but if the shooting range is implemented correctly, I genuinely feel that it will help War, not hinder it. The notion that adding one will negatively affect gameplay is utterly absurd.

It could encourage people who maybe wouldn't miss the game to skip it, having the same effect. I see what you mean however, good point, and I think this should be taken into account also.

The thing is this wouldn’t take little time to code (I think) but new players do often get spanwtrapped so I thought of instead maybe giving some better well explained tutorial that helps with bullet travel and shooting, moving players, tactics etc. I was thinking about making a guide on the forums but new players barely look on the forums. So you would have to clearly announce ingame that there is a tutorial if you’re new and it would give a link to a tutorial.

Yeah Ice Bear agrees there is virtually no tutorial to playing. Ice Bear says maybe when they first login it is a person telling them how to scope hipfire and knife then give them a few targets to shoot at.
