See this thread for what I was talking about.

The connection problem is still consistent. Reset router, adjusted connection preferences, using Ethernet. All of the above. This problem was non-existent for my first 3 years on brawl. It briefly existed on MCPVP so bad that I had to just stop playing and didn't come back for several months.

Currently, I can barely play with a game above 10-15 people. The problem isn't a bad connection, but a spiking one. I will get my typical 60-70MS but then it will spike to 500, 1000, 3000+ms, then back down to my normal ping. This will happen anywhere between 20-50 times during a game. Its impossible to play, and to be honest super frustrating as there seems to be no explanation.

I posted this in general because I wanted to see if anyone else has this issue. In the situation of experimental fairness, I am located in the South Eastern United States and from what I remember, the CTF servers or servers, in general, are hosted in Ontario, Canadia. In the three years of no issues, I maintained a solid 80 or so MS with no problems.

I created a script to run the /ping command repeatedly within a specific duration to show the level of change. These screenshots are taken within seconds apart of each other.

I get that high ping is a factor for many players, but this constant flux of connection is stupid. I've never had this issue to this degree until now.

    Looking for answers. Thanks.

It should also be noted, that on all of my ping based games, I maintain a constant 50-60MS with no issues. Brawl is the only service where I encounter this issue.

Did you try calling your provider about the problem?

I've also had this problem! I have really good internet so it wasn't my internet's fault. I didn't find a fix however so I just waited it out and it worked.

I would consider this if I had issues on other services that I play on, but I don't. Brawl is the only one.

The last time I had to "wait" this out, I waited like 5 months back on MCPVP. Terrible connection. Unplayable.

@chickenputty @Lord_Roke @Miskey I'm still continuing to have this issue. Any suggestions or potential answers to this problem would be greatly appreciated.

I had the same problem for quite a while and then I kept attempting to simply restart the router, and it hadn't worked. I eventually ended up leaving the game just as you did, but when I joined back one day, restarted the router, and jumped into the game, suddenly it worked again. I never found an actual fix or probable cause for the situation but my best guess would be to wait it out even though that's very frustrating. I hope you find a solid fix for your situation!
