    Brawl Junior Moderator Application

    Read over this thread: https://www.brawl.com/threads/14752/
If you do not meet the requirements (active, helpful, must have Discord, etc) do not apply yet; it will be an auto deny.

To anyone who's voted for "Maybe" and have only seen the first version of my application, please read it again. I've added two paragraphs to the "Why do you want to become a moderator om Brawl?" section and added some more to the thread overall. Maybe it'll give you a better idea of what to vote for (this could be "Yes", but of course also "No"). Thanks.

    What is your in-game name?
    - MartGames (Other well-known name > Martyyy)

Is your Minecraft account secured and migrated?
    - Yes.

How old are you? - 16 (Date of birth - 21-11-2001)

What time zone are you in?
    - CEST / UTC +2

Are you multilingual? Can you speak multiple languages?
    - Yes. I can speak Dutch and English. I can also speak basic German and I can read German quite well. I can also read Swedish if I really try, the same goes for French (although my French reading skills are starting to fade away).

What is your experience and knowledge of Brawl? - I've been a part of Brawl since 2013 and loved the server ever since, especially MC-War. I have a lot of knowledge when it comes down to how things work around Brawl. Through the years I've picked up a lot of information and experience about the rules, game mechanics, players, the behaviour of players, certain situations and how to deal with them and much more. I am someone who pays a lot of attention to detail so I always scan the environment to search for problems and to improve myself and everything around me.

What is your experience with moderating servers, if any?
    - I actually have been mod/developer/administrator on some smaller servers made by my friends and by people who saw me as a helpful person. I was the one to keep the servers clean of hackers/rulebreakers and I was there to improve things on the servers overall. Whether it was creating designs for lobbies, parkours or coming up with new ideas for minigames and gamemodes. I don't recall them ever having any issues with me making some changes to their servers here and there.

Why do you want to become a moderator on Brawl?
    - A lot of times when I log onto Brawl there's a 40% chance that a hacker pops up. Either he's/she's already been doing his/her thing, or he/she joins when I'm on. And then there's a 60% chance that a player will break any other rule other than hacking. Like flaming in chat or players accusing other players of using hacks as some examples. At times like these I wish I was mod so I could put them in their place, keep the server clean and to keep good positive vibes on the server.

It's really easy for me to distinguish hackers from players. I don't exacly know how I do this but it's probably because of my experience with them and knowledge about them that I've gathered for the past 5 years. And I'm someone who is able to judge how people are relatively quickly based on how they behave and what they do. I always keep an eye out for players that behave different than other players. This usually results in me finding a hacker.

I'm almost always online on Discord and I always check messages that pop up right after I hear the sound of one being posted. So with that being said, it means that I'm available for most of the time if someone spots a hacker/rulebreaker (But this depends on what timezone you live in). People can always ask me for help as long as my Discord icon has that green dot next to it. I'm quite helpful, but I don't want people to call me a minimod. So I often let the mods handle it. Since it's their duty. But if that's what you'd like to see, I will gladly help anyone out even if there's already a mod online helping the player in need. I go far into details, to make it as easy as possible for the person asking the question, so he/she can understand it easily without having to ask anything else. Even in real-life I never refuse to help someone. It feels wrong to say something like "No not right now". Atleast for me.

Have you ever used a hacked client before? - No I have not. Plus I don't see the need for it.

Have you ever been punished (banned, kicked, muted, etc) legitimately on a public Minecraft server? If so, why?
    - I do believe that this happened one time. Back in the early days (somewhere around 2013-2014 when I was really immature). I got muted once on Mineplex for raging in chat. Also, I just want to mention this to clear things up > https://www.brawl.com/history/player/MartGames . I was banned one time in 2017 for "glitching", as you can see. Once I got stuck glitching up in mid-air, and the server kept kicking me for flying. I asked a staff member to help me out (I believe it as an SMOD, it could've been MrDasky if I remember correctly). He had to ban me and after rejoining the server the glitch had finally stopped and I could move again.
[Update] I just got autobanned for cheating apparently. What actually happened is that I lagged mid-air while jumping down onto a CTF map and used the Cannon Gadget afterwards, which launches you up into the air. Apparently that gets you banned. The anti-cheat probably thought it as flying. I was able to log on again right after I appealed. Thanks to whoever resolved my appeal.

What do you consider your greatest strength? - Being able to take any criticism and handling people who try to insult me/others in any shape or form. I usually ingore them, respond with some facts or something funny to throw them off. Sometimes I give them a warning even though I'm not in the position to do that. If it does end up getting out of hand I can easily just /chatreport them.
I'm not the type of person who gets angry really quickly. If I do get ticked off, I just keep the negative thoughts inside my head and throw them aside since there is no need to express anger in chat. You won't get anywhere. And you won't get any benefit from it. It's just going to end up in one of those situations that you can just forget about.

What do you consider your greatest weakness? - Probably hackers. Or bad jokes. I can spot hackers really easily. And once I see one flying or see him/her doing something else that affects the game in a bad way, I immediately start thinking: "Why? Why are you here ruining the fun for everyone else?" It just hurts my soul. And I really wish I could just put them in their place right there and then. I've had hackers/rulebreakers ruin the fun for me a lot of times when I was younger. So I know how it feels when others are facing hackers/rulebreakers.

Back to the bad joke part. Sometimes I can be really grumpy, because there are times when I don't sleep when I actually need to. Of course I don't show my grumpy side in chat. But I do tend to do this while messaging a player. I become very serious all of a sudden and don't get the joke. This usually resulted in me getting a bit angry and a bad ending. But I've learned from my mistakes and it won't end like that again.

Which Brawl server(s) are you most active on?
    - MC-War. But since recently I started to develop an interest in CTF too. Since the players are really nice there. And it feels less competitive than MC-War. I used to play MinecraftParty a lot too back in 2014-2015. MC-War was actually the main reason why I bought Minecraft. I heard my friends talking about this server and I really liked the idea. Little did I know that it would be a big part of my childhood.

How many Brawl staff applications have you made in the past? - 1

What is the date of the last application you submitted?
    - December 26th, 2014

    Do you have Discord?
Yes. And I'm currently part of the Brawl discord server. My tag is: StrikeZero#4497.

Anything else you would like to state? - As some of you guys know, I was very talkative back in legacy war from 2013 to the end of 2016. I was a really happy and positive person that loved to talk to anyone. That's probably why so many people talked to me all the time. But recently I haven't been talking that much at all. Idk exacly what happened but I do know that people can change. A lot. My personality has almost done a full 180. I went from being really social to almost not talking to people at all. (Even if this was a negative thing, there was also a positive one. I matured a lot, I was really immature in legacy war and I even bragged and lied sometimes too. All this childish stuff is gone and I never do anything that affects someone/something anymore). Another thing is that a lot of my friends from legacy war have left. So I didn't have anyone to talk to for months. And because I wasn't a social person I didn't really try to look out for people to talk to. But things have been getting better. I'm talking a lot more now. Probably because I'm starting to know the new players better. I think a lot of players from 2.0 must be thinking right now "Huh? I never thought you were like that?" That's because I don't want to show that side. And I just want to say that I'm still a happy and positive person. But I do tend to hide this from players that I don't really know. I'm less open to unknown people and I don't feel comfortable talking to them (with this I mean talking to people in a Discord voicechat). I am however trying to change this and I have to say that it's been going quite well.
I'm still quite nervous when it comes to talking in English to people in Discord but I'll try my best.
You can also see that I'm not very active on the forums. But if that is what it takes to be mod, I'll be more active than ever and I am willing to do whatever it takes. And as of right now I'm aleady being more active on the forums since it's getting more interesting the more I look into it.
As for in-game activity, I'm actually really active but I don't play for long periods at a time. That's due to my internet issues as stated below in my reply to SuperBen's comment. This isn't holding me back to play Brawl though. But it can be a bit annoying at times when you get lagspikes out of nowhere. Those are the times when I quit and wait for the lagspikes to dissapear (if you were wondering why I sometimes quit mid-game). I usually play different games in between when I log off and when I log on again.

If you have any questions or tips for me, please PM me, tell me what you voted for and why as well. Thanks.

If your application is accepted, you will move on to an interview on Discord.

Please insert a Yes / No poll below.

Hey, Martyyy, great to see you applying.

Recently I haven't seen you in game very much (possibly time zones) but I spoke to few people and it seems that you haven't been playing very often lately. I also get this idea from your reply to the thread 'Top 10 War Players'. Apart from being one of your very limited amount of forum posts, you mentioned that you had been inactive for a while. It would have been nice to see you wait a little after you came back to show that you are fully back and staying.

Other than that, I have no issues with your maturity, or knowledge and understanding of the game. I think you're a good candidate, but I'd like to see your in game chat activity improve, such as being helpful and answering people's questions.

Overall, I think with a bit of improvement in a few areas, such as forums and in game activity, you'd make a great member of staff as there are no problems in any other areas. I'd love to see you become a staff member in future. +0, Good Luck.

Actually, I'm really active in-game. But I don't play for long periods at a time. I only play short sessions because of the bad lag I've been having the past 4 months, as you may have read in that Top 10 War Players thread. We tried to upgrade some things for our internet but this only made it worse.
I log onto Brawl almost 15 -/+ times per day. But I don't always stay for long depending on how bad I'm lagging at the time I'm online (this could be 1 minute but sometimes I stay for an hour or so, I remember when I used to play for hours at a time when I still had stable internet. I also tend to spot hackers/rulebreakers even if I'm only there for 1 minute). And since I don't talk much it's like I'm never even there. When in reality I am. The first thing I do when I turn on my computer is going online on Brawl to check everything and to see how my internet is doing. Long story short, I log onto Brawl every single day when I'm home no matter what. Waiting for one day to make a complete comeback when my internet is stable again (with a comeback I mean playing for hours like I used to do).

I've added the part below to the "Why do you want to become a moderator on Brawl?" section. Am I allowed to add big pieces of text to my already finished application? If it's not, just tell me and I'll delete it.

I'm almost always online on Discord and I always check messages that pop up right after I hear the sound of one being posted. You say all this, but you have only had 2 reports ever - neither of which were hacker reports.

I only report players in-game. Which usually results in the player getting banned. I haven't really been active on the forums since my application so that's why I've never posted any hacker reports here. But now I'm active again and if you'd like I can make an effort to record them and report it on the forums. I never really thought about recording hackers/rulebreakers because it's easier to just use /report, /chatreport or to PM a mod on Discord. These things usually do the job for me in about 10 minutes or less. Recording a hacker/rulebreaker doesn't do much at that point since it takes a lot more time. And in the time I'm done with recording, editing, rendering and posting it on the forums the player would most likely be banned already. But if we are talking about really difficult cases like players that toggle hacks on and off, then it would indeed be better to record them.

Hey Marty, glad to see you applying. As it stands now, I don't quite think you're ready yet for JMOD. I know you explained your activity scenario, so I'll stay even with that. The main reason I'm -1 is due to community input. With very few posts on the forums, you're not very "active in the community" (best way to put it). You've been here for a long time, just try to interact and respond more to the War community.

Thanks for the feedback @Snail_5_. I'll be sure to be more active on the forums. I haven't able to do that the last couple days because I'm sick at the moment. But it's been getting better and I'll see what I can do.
The main reason why I applied is because I heard that some people got promoted to JMOD even with low forums activity. But I guess I'm not one of the exceptions. Oh well, better luck next time I guess.

How do you plan to be able to moderate consistently if you constantly need to log off due to lag?

I can play consistently, but the problem is my ping. I can't always take part of a game (because my ping tends to go over 300ms+ and I just can't do anything with that), but I can always stay in spectator mode if there's a rulebreaker/hacker roaming around. I don't need to log off due to lag, but I just do. It's become a habit of mine. I can change this habit by doing something else other than War. If I'm lagging too much, I can always go to build (or something else) and still get notifications of a /(chat)report. Or by someone tagging me on Discord.

Vote changed to a +1. I can vouch for your improvement of in-game activity and I have seen you helping and responding to threads on the forums and helping players in-game with questions as best you can. Like Prouddyyy, you are doing the best you can for war with the little you have. You are also building and remaking maps to improve the player base of war. Good luck.

Thanks a lot Fista . I already finished a remake of Dome together with Prouddyyy and right now we're working on Terminal. It's going really well. [Update] Terminal is finished.

    1. By keeping an eye out on chat. Because it can sometimes become a bit hectic. If someone constantly keeps spamming after I gave the person 2 or 3 warnings to stop, I'll mute him/her. Or I could use /warn and see if the person changes his/her mind before I actually mute him/her. The same goes for players who rage in caps against other players, swear at other players, harass other players, DDoS/death threats, etc.

    2. Getting rid of hackers. People can always message me if they need help with a hacker. Though I can only kick players for an hour as a JMOD. But that should be enough to keep the hackers at bay. Unless they got alts. But I'll make sure they're gone by staying online for a bit longer after I've kicked them and wait for their alt to show up.

    3. Helping (new) players. If I were to get JMOD, I would probably get a lot more questions from players. Whether it's about how to get started with War, or some tips and tricks about how to get better. I've picked up a lot of knowledge within my past 5 years on War so I should be able to answer any questions related to War.

I would like to help out in every way I possibly can.
